Warcraft Rumble Leaders Tier List (PVE + PVP)

Since collecting units is time-consuming, choosing the best Warcraft Rumble Leaders is crucial to helping you progress efficiently.

In our Warcraft Rumble Leaders tier list that combines both PVE and PVP, we’ll be ranking all leaders and indicating their best talents.

We chose to take this approach since most players will play both modes, as the two sides help to progress each other.

I’ve personally spent many hours playtesting through every beta wipe and have cleared all content (including Heroic) multiple times. The rankings within this list include my experiences replaying through, often beating stages at 4-5 levels lower than the recommended for Normal and 2 levels lower for Heroic.

Once you’ve explored and planned around these Leaders, see our list of the Best Minis in Warcraft Rumble next.

Warcraft Rumble Leaders Tier List Commentary

In the following sections, we’ll be spotlighting the best leaders with additional commentary.

For leaders below A-tier, note that we’ll be grouping them with trends instead.

However, since Sylvanas is the newest leader, we’ll be discussing her in more detail despite her being in our C-tier.

Baron Rivendare

Baron Rivendare is the best leader in Warcraft Rumble. He excels in both PvE and PvP because he generates so much value in free summons and map pressure.

Baron as a mini is also a decent fast-moving armored tank, which is also unique as there are no other armored fast moving tanks. He is thus one of the rare tanks that can be match huntress speed and be played alongside her.

[See Baron Rivendare’s best PvE deck]

The value of his summons can be most keenly seen in PvP matches, where unlike other players who are required to dedicate gold to send units down multiple lanes to capture chests and defend gold mines, Baron does this passively, exerting constant pressure on the map without spending a single gold.

Recommended Talent

  • Chill Of The Grave
    • Summon Skeletal Mages instead of Warriors.

By summoning skeletal mages even when he is not played, your mages will push lanes, open chests, capture watchtowers, and provide a slowing debuff in battle constantly through the match.

When watchtowers or towers are captured, new skeletons can spawn even before the towers are fully converted to your side, aiding you to hold the tower. His mages are also useful even when you eventually reach the boss by applying frost to them and slowing down their attacks. All these are done without ever having the need to play Baron himself.

Rend Blackhand

Rend Blackhand’s leader ability which allows him to summon air units at -1 cost (to a minimum of 2) balances out his high cost and makes him a very gold-efficient leader to play with.

By just playing 3 other flying units, he effectively costs 3 gold. Furthermore, most of the flying units are already good units to begin with (Harpies and Whelps are S tier units, while Drake and Gargoyle when played at 3 mana are very cost-effective for what they do), so playing them for cheaper and being able to cycle back to them faster to play them again is very strong.

[See Rend Blackhand’s best PvE deck]

Both his land and air attacks also deal AoE damage, and he can effectively deal with squad units on his own. Being a Blackrock leader, he also automatically has access to 2 Blackrock trait slots, which makes it easier to fit in strong units like Pyromancer, Whelps, and Earth Elemental.

In PvP, his slow speed and focus on flying minis can make it difficult to capture chests which will have to be addressed by other units in his deck. However, his AoE attacks and bulky dismounted form can be very difficult for enemies to deal with especially when well-supported by other flyers and unbound units.

Recommended Talent

  • Scale and Steel
    • Gain Resistant while flying and Armored while dismounted.

With the Scale and Steel talent, which grants his dragon form Resistant and his dismounted form Armored, it makes him one of the toughest units to take down 1 v 1, as each form has a weakness covered.

When dismounted, his armored form can charge to a ranged mini and clear it easily, and he can tank shots from towers for a long time, safeguarding your other flying units.

Tirion Fordring

Tirion Fordring’s leader’s ability to heal people makes him a perfect leader to build up big pushes which never die and then clear the map in one push.

Play him alongside strong meatshields, with Footman being his most common pairing, and watch an unstoppable ball of troops gather which can heal in between fights and tackle the slow trickle of enemy reinforcements easily.

[See Tiron Fordring’s best PvE deck]

If you manage to build a large push with multiple copies of Tirion on the field, they can usually outheal any damage a boss can deal out. He is however very slow-moving, and cannot hit air, so you may need to round his deck out with a few ranged units like Huntress and S.A.F.E. Pilot and have multiple unbound units that can take some elemental AoE hits while he slowly marches towards the enemy.

As an Alliance leader, he has default access to two Alliance traits, which allows him to easily fit in strong units such as SAFE pilot, Bandits, and Huntress.

Recommended Talents (either works)

  • Divine Shield
    • Gain a magical shield at 30% health, absorbing all damage for 5 seconds.
  • By The Light
    • Heal the primary target for twice as much.

The two talents we recommend work well for Tirion and both perform equally. Divine shield comes out ahead when you are tackling heroics and your Tirion is underleveled, as Divine Shield grants him invulnerability for a long time which can soak an infinite of mini or bosses damage for 5 second, buying yourDPS time to burn them down.

When your units’ levels are more eventually matched against the enemy, By The Light can keep a single mini fully topped out which allows them to trade well against the enemy, and when two Tirions are on the field with 2x healing, they can even face bosses and keep a tank like themselves or an earth elemental alive forever.

Old Murk-Eye

Old Murk-Eye’s ability to summon a ton of Murlocs cheaply allows him to push through the map very quickly. Summoning low hp low damage Murlocs may not sound very strong, but when paired with well-timed placement of unbound tanks Quilboar and Earth Elemental, means that those weak Murlocs become very high damage units in swarms without the downside of being low HP units.

[See Old Murk Eye’s best PvE deck]

Murlocs are also summoned in different lanes, and the extra Murlocs can help establish map presence like Baron does by sending ‘free’ units down different lanes to capture chests and watch towers, defend the base and gold mines and even clear towers on their own if you use an unbound tank for them.

In PvE he is easily an S-tier hero due to the amount of value he generates when he summons his Murlocs. The AI have prefixed decks in stages, and they generally do not know how to counter Murk-Eye well by instant killing him with a spell, which lets him build up value when summoning Murlocs.

In PvP, he is however very susceptible to AoE minis and spells which can snipe him even before he can summon any Murlocs. A simple chain lightning spell can immediately clear him when he is played, and even if he manages to build up a decent push with a lot of Murlocs, they can be cleared with a well-timed S.A.F.E Pilot.

Still, if you manage to save up on mana and play the Murk-Eye with 6 mana immediately to generate an extra 6 Murlocs, they can push multiple lanes fairly well and get chest without committing any resources into those lanes.

Recommended Talent (either works)

  • Marathon Of The Murlocs
    • March of the Murlocs lasts an additional 5 seconds longer after deploying.
  • Electric Eels
    • Attacks briefly Stun enemies.

Similar to Tirion, he has two good talent choices. Marathon increases the time you can summon Murlocs, and this usually means more value is generated each time you play Murk-Eye. However, this is a poor talent for PvP as he usually won’t survive that long to actually make use of his talent. Further, without additional gold sources like chests or gold mines, the extra 5 seconds usually mean an extra 2 murlocs generated, which is fairly average.

Electric Eels is an interesting talent as it turns Murk-Eye into the only ranged unit with a stun in the game. Although the stun is only a ministun, it can actually break the attack animation of some bosses and units like Molten Giant, who is unable to attack as each mini stun will reset their attack animation, which reduces the incoming damage to your team. When paired with a source of frost, he can further reset an enemy’s attack animation even more frequently

Emperor Thaurissan

Emperor Thaurissan was the new leader added to Warcraft Rumble in Season 3.

We have a dedicated standalone Emperor Thaurissan guide that covers our analysis of him in both PvP and PvE, so check out the commentary there!

Grommash Hellscream

Grommash Hellscream is a simple leader who berserks all units around him. Berserk increases the movement speed and attack speed of your units. He’s the embodiment of “a good offense is the best defense” and you have to play very aggressively, in hopes that your units will overwhelm your enemies as they are summoned.

Generally, your units will take less damage as you will kill them faster with berserk, which you then push ahead with your berserked units and take down your enemy towers and boss before they have the time to recover. Grom is a melee unit but does not come with armor, so do not attempt to use him as a sole tank, use unbound tanks to help him avoid being targeting by other units.

In PvE, his explosive power can quickly burn down key enemy objectives and defeat the boss much faster. Minis with poison like Harpies also deal even more damage due to their higher attack speed, and AoE units like Pyromancer can kill large chunks of enemies even faster to prevent any hp loss.

In PvP, he is decent but not the best because it is difficult to build a large push with him when many of your units can be sniped by the unbound units from the enemy.

Recommended talents (either works)

  • Mirror Image
    • Summon two fragile mirror images when entering combat.
  • Bladestorm
    • Gain an AoE bladespin ability that damages all nearby enemies.

Between his two recommended talents, it depends on whether you want more survivability or need AoE. Mirror Image slightly boosts his personal damage and survivability by summoning extra clones of him.
Bladestorm allows Grom to become a melee AoE unit, which can be fairly useful when dealing with squad minis.

Cairne Bloodhoof

Cairne boasts the highest HP of all leaders, and his leader skill increases Horde units hp by 20%, which is very mediocre compared to what other leaders can do.

However, his key strength is his normal attacks which stun enemies. Although he can attack only in melee range, his attack will travel through enemies and even stun enemies behind, making him a pseudo-ranged character.

In PvE, Carine’s deck is centered around playing Carine and protecting him as his stuns can stun minis and bosses. Think of him as a ‘hypercarry’ where you play supports around him to enable him.

[See Cairne Bloodhoof’s best PvE deck]

Similarly to how you would play Tyrion – you will eventually build up a large push, with multiple Carines that will stunlock minis and bosses to death. Frostwolf Shaman can be talented to grant him armor which makes him even harder to kill with his massive HP pool while Shaman also heals him.

You can also include Ogre Magi with him to bloodlust Carine which further increases his attack speed for more stuns, and who also applies frost to enemies, making it even harder for the enemy to do damage between the frost slow and stuns.

In PvP, Carine suffers from being a slow unit, and will have to played differently from the ‘hypercarry’ build as your supporting units will get sniped.

Recommended Talent

  • Reincarnation
    • After death, Resurrect at 50% health, once.

Reincarnation gives him too much value over the other talent choices. Not only does it effectively increase his HP by 50%, but when run with Frostwolf Shaman, he can be healed backed to 100%.

The armored that Frostwolf Shaman gives him will last on him even through revive, so in summary you have the highest HP unit in the game with armored and with a potential 2x hp. He becomes a terror to fully take down, and even when he dies, the few moments that he takes to revive he is untargetable, which allows you to redirect aggro from other enemy units who were focusing on him to a Quilboar or Earth Elemental.

Hogger

Hogger is the most vanilla unit out of the leaders. His leader ability allows him to come back stronger each time, up to a cap of 3 times. He hits hard in a cleave attack, and is bulky and difficult to kill. The first 2 summons of him are fairly weak, and you will have to play defensively for a little to stamp ramping him up.

Hogger excels in PvP, where his fast movement speed after his 3rd summon allows him to charge down lanes before enemies have time to recover and force an answer to him. He is tanky and hits hard enough to solo down the most common units seen in PvP, and can then proceed to start chipping down the enemies towers due to how little time he takes to arrive at your doorstep.

In PvE, he doesn’t fare too well as compared to Murk-Eye, as his abilities and talents are are limited to making himself stronger, but he is far too difficult to play as a hypercarry unlike Carine.

Him being a melee unit without access to hit air units makes him more difficult to use as he will require more support and will eventually have trouble taking down the boss.

Recommended Talent

  • Ham Hock
  • Hogger also gains +10% max health each time he is played.

  • Maiev Shadowsong

B-tier leaders are average and may excel in either PvE or PvP but not both.

Furthermore, there are better leaders in their respective factions that should be used for progression in Heroics.

C-tier Leaders

leaders c-tier

Tier Warcraft Rumble Leaders Tier List and Talents
C (Okay)
  • Sylvanas Windrunner
    • Black Arrow

C-tier leaders that are neither good in PvE or PvP. They cost too much for what they can do and are overshadowed by other leaders in their faction.

Sylvanas Windrunner (New Unit Breakdown)

Sylvanas is rated as C tier as she has a staggering cost of 6 mana. Even when talented with Black Arrow to deal an AoE in straight line, this is barely consistent and she would miss hitting many units that a Huntress or Pyromancer would normally hit. Sadly, quad minis have an easy time swarming her down.

Furthermore, her defining trait of being to summon a banshee is anti-synergistic with her role as a backline damage dealer, as by the time she dies, it would have meant that your tanks and front line have fallen, and you would have already dealt significant damage to their minis, allowing you to possess minis which are half dead.

This is assuming her banshee can even connect with the enemy mini, which is unlikely given that the enemy mini was already strong enough to kill her and might finish off the banshee as well. When eventually pushing against bosses, her banshee does nothing but a few extra damage, and banshees generally have a hard time connecting with the boss due to their AoE attacks.

Her passive ability to boost the movement speed of Undead and Horde units near her is also the weakest hero ability in the game. Movement speed is rarely a factor to consider in maps, and can even be detrimental if your units move too fast and you have insufficient time to build up gold to drop an unbound mini to support the frontline.

Lastly, in PvP, she is far too easily sniped down by whelps and SAFE pilot, which are very popular minis that can clear both her and her banshee with little losses.

D-tier Leaders

leaders d-tier

Tier Warcraft Rumble Leaders Tier List and Talents
D (Poor)
  • Chargla Razerflank
    • Cavernous Mists

D-tier leaders will cause you to struggle in both PvE and PvP. They are sorely in need of buffs to be viable, try to avoid using them if you can.

In Conclusion

Thanks for reading! We plan to update this tier list often, especially when there are new balance changes or units added to the game.
