Yunara is the newest ADC to hit Summoners Rift, and she is what we old players call a traditional ADC. Unlike some of the other champions Riot has released in previous years, they have made her relatively simple and her kit is very easy to understand. As a traditional ADC, she might be basic, but she can be extremely strong and challenging to play against.
To increase your chances of winning against her, not only do you need to know how to play against Yunara in LoL, but you also need to know what champions are strong against her. Picking someone who counters her will heavily sway the chances of winning the game in your favor as you can set her behind and kill her over and over again.
In this Mobalytics guide, we will discuss 5 champions who are really good against Yunara. Picking any one of these champions is recommended as they have tools in their kit that counter her. It is important to note that these champions may not be statistically the best counters to Yunara, but they’re very strong! You can find the statistically best counters by heading over to Yunara’s counter page.

1. Ziggs
The first champion who is a great counter to Yunara is Ziggs. Ziggs is a great pick against many ADC champions in LoL, and if you love to play AP champions with a lot of poke, then we definitely recommend you give him a try versus Yunara.
Yunara excels in those long, extended trades, but Ziggs doesn’t at all. All he wants to do is poke and go for short trades. This forces Yunara to adjust her play style, as she cannot do long trades against him. If she wants to go in, he can trade back and use his W to disengage. She then has to also disengage, missing out on a lot of damage.
While Ziggs is quite squishy, all you have to do in this matchup is watch your positioning, stand back and out of range, and fire those Q’s, W’s and E’s at her and clear the minion wave. Making her low forces her to play even safer, so she can’t even play aggressively if she wants to.

2. Nilah
Nilah is the second recommendation for countering Yunara in League of Legends. Nilah is an excellent pick in those matchups where the enemy wants to get up close and personal, and as Yunara wants to do this, she is naturally a favourable pick against her!
As we have said, she wants to go for those extended trades, but Nilah really wants to go for shorter trades where she can abuse her all-in and get into the enemy’s face. Nilah can do this quite easily, which makes it harder for Yunara to deal damage and win the trade. Furthermore, Nilah has her W, which is a powerful tool that can help keep her alive and mitigate some damage, reducing Yunara’s kill pressure.
I would argue that Nilah is probably one of the harder champions on our list, but if you have time to master her and play her often, you’ll quickly find yourself dominating in every matchup.

3. Vayne
Yunara excels in matchups where the enemy is unable to fight back or trade with her. Vayne is the opposite of this as she can deal a lot of damage in a short amount of time with her W. This makes it quite tricky for Yunara to fight often and make those aggressive plays she wants to.
Vayne’s in the early game traditionally do not want to fight for long periods of time, as they are squishy and don’t deal much damage. However, when Vayne has multiple points in her W, lots of attack speed and damage, then they can easily trade back with anyone who wants to fight them. As suggested, Yunara wants to go for long trades, but Vayne will only opt for short trades around her W early.
This matched her E, making it really hard for Yunara to fight. She can go in for the trade, but after Vayne has activated her W, she can also just kick Yunara away with her E and force her to disengage from the fight (and miss out on additional damage).

4. Miss Fortune
One of the squishier champions on our list is Miss Fortune, but do not think twice about picking Miss Fortune against Yunara, as she has multiple abilities in her kit that make getting kills and trading with Yunara highly favourable.
Miss Fortune needs to play a bit safer at levels 2 and 3, as Yunara is much stronger than her, but all Miss Fortune needs to do early is poke and harass her: using your Q to bounce off minions and hit the Yunara. You will want to keep doing this and only this early on. You could also use your E, but I think it is often better, especially early to use this as a defensive tool as it is a slow, so you can escape the fight.
Once you have more levels under your belt, you can trade back with her quite easily. She excels in those extended trades, but if you just focus on short trades and poke and harass her first, before committing to an extended trade, you’ll find yourself starting off the mid and late game in a much stronger position.

5. Veigar
The final champion on our list is another AP champion who has ways of countering her all-in. While Veigar might not be the strongest champion in the early game, far from it, he does have things in his kit that are really good when it comes to beating a champion like Yunara.
You will not want to fight as Veigar at all early. You need to focus on farming and picking up gold. You should also never use your E as it makes you quite vulnerable to an all-in, and a good Yunara will abuse the cooldown to gain a favourable health advantage over you. You’ll basically want to play safe early, and then when you have your first item, a lot of stacks and better ability cooldowns, you can start trying to fight her.
You will eventually outscale the Yunara as long as you do not fall behind and waste your abilities. Yunara is quite squishy and doesn’t buy many, if any, defensive tools, so you could basically one-shot her with your Ultimate in the late game if you’re able to CC her or lock her down with your team.

In Conclusion
Sometimes you will be unable to pick a direct counter to Yunara, and there are some other things you should consider, such as the enemy Support and the enemy team as a whole. Regardless of this, picking one of these champions in today’s list will increase your chances of winning against her during the laning phase.
It is important to remember, though, that if you do not play any of the champions on our list, you probably shouldn’t pick them, as you will be decreasing your chances of winning. Pick someone you’re comfortable with, and you should still do well against her!
