How to Play Akshan

How to Play Akshan

We’re over halfway through the year, and you know what that means? Another new champion! Akshan is the latest champion to hits Summoners Rift in League of Legends. He is an incredibly mobile champion with about a billion dashes, can resurrect his allies, become camouflaged, and I can already tell he will be annoying to play against.

In this guide, we will go over the basics of Akshan in League of Legends, including Akshan Runes, Akshan build, general tips and tricks and much more.

Here are the things we will be covering in this guide:

Ability Breakdown

To start this how-to guide, we must first break down Akshan’s abilities!

Note that this information and the numbers in this guide may slightly differ as they’re based on his PBE stats.

Akshan’s Passive is Dirty Fighting

Akshan P

Every 3rd hit from Akshan (attacks or ability damage) deals a burst of physical damage. If the target is a champion, he will gain a shield. After he attacks, Akshan fires a second attack that deals damage, which can be auto-attack cancelled. If he cancels that auto, he gains a burst of movement speed.

This is an interesting ability but will be very helpful in trades with the enemy. I think it’s a good Passive overall.

Akshan’s Q is Avengerang

Akshan Q

He throws a boomerang that deals damage and reveals enemies. It deals damage on its way there and its way back. Every time it hits an enemy, the range is extended, and using this ability applies his Passive.

This ability is very similar to Sivir’s Q.

Akshan’s W is Going Rogue

Akshan W

Passive: Whenever an enemy kills an ally, they are marked as Scoundrels. When Akshan gets a takedown on a Scoundrel, he gains bonus gold, and any allies who were killed by that champion are resurrected at their base.

Active: Akshan becomes camouflaged briefly; during this time, he can see trails of Scoundrels. While moving towards them, he gains bonus movement speed and mana regen.

The W Passive is quite insane. I don’t like this in the game; it feels like it can be broken. We shall see how it works out, but he is going to be insane to play against.

Akshan’s E is Heroic Swing

Akshan E

Akshan fires a hook shot that embeds into the terrain. While embedded, he can recast/swing around the terrain, firing bullets to a nearby enemy while swinging. He can recast this will swinging to jump off.

If he gets a kill/assist, this abilities cooldown is reset.

This is an exciting ability, and honestly, it’s pretty cool. Unfortunately, I think this is overkill as he already had an escape with his W. So I think his kit is going to be overtuned.

Akshan’s Ultimate is Comeuppance

Akshan R

Akshan channels for 2.5 seconds and locks onto a target champion. During this time, he stores bullets. At the end of the duration, he unleashes all of the stored bullets onto the first enemy hit, including minions or structures.

It’s a pretty interesting Ultimate, and I think it will be pretty cool.

Akshan’s Build

We’ve done some testing on the PBE to find which Runes are good on Akshan, and here is the setup we have made. Unfortunately, the best build and Rune page may not have been found for Akshan yet because not everyone has access to the PBE and has time to test new builds for him.

Runes + Items

This is a test build for Akshan. Like we talked about previously, there is no “best setup” for him yet. Check back frequently to see if this build has changed for Akshan.

Beginner Tips

Here are some basic tips for Akshan. You can find more tips and tricks on Akshan’s champion page.

  • During the mid-game, you can use your W inside the jungle to draw the enemies attention. You can then bait them into following you towards your team.
  • In the mid and late game, your W will be very impactful: especially once Baron is up. Make sure you stick with your team so you can get kills and shutdowns.
  • Keeping the wave closer to your side of the map in the early game will allow you to look for all-ins on overextended enemies. If you push the wave, you’ll never be able to use your E aggressively.
  • Wait for the enemy to use CC or interrupts before channelling your Ultimate. They could CC you and it will cancel your Ultimate which will put it on a short cooldown.

Final Thoughts

The new champion looks pretty cool, to be honest. For me at least, it feels like Riot constantly wants to outdo themselves every time, which is fine, but it leaves a lot of players with a sour taste in their mouths. Akshan’s kit is overloaded with stuff, and when you compare him to some older champions- it’s like you’re playing two different games.

At the end of the day, Riot needs to step up on reworking or to fix up older champions or tone down on how many things the new champions have in their kit.

Conclusion

Akshan hits live servers on Patch 11.15. What do you think of him? Do you think he is fun to play as and against? Or will he be your go-to ban from here on out? Let us know!

Most popular questions about Akshan

What role is Akshan in LoL?

We’ve collected some stats from patch 11.15 and our prediction is Akshan will be effective most as a Mid first, and then Top or ADC. This may change after his further stats become available so expect possible changes.

Will Akshan be good in LoL?

In theory, his kit provides a lot of interesting utility, we haven’t seen a champion with these sort of AoE resurrection mechanics. We’ll have to see though once players start trying to climb with him or teams try him out in competitive.

Is Akshan AP or AD?

Akshan is AD.
