Seele Novaflare: Guide, Skills, Builds, Teams & More
Seele is the first-ever limited unit in Honkai: Star Rail — a Quantum Hunt damage dealer built around chaining kills. For a time, she stood among the best aging damage dealers thanks to her fantastic mechanics, though her Multiplier Values held her back until she is no longer viable.
With the release of Patch 4.2, Seele received a Novaflare update that boosted her Multiplier Values and improved her overall operation, allowing her to once again stand as a viable damage dealer.
HSR Seele Release Date
Seele is currently an option for Celestial Invitation- the system that allows players to select which units they will receive when missing the Rate-Up units while pulling.
Seele HSR Kit Overview (Trace Level 10)
Talents, Skill & Ultimate
Seele’s core gameplay revolves around her Talent – Resurgence. Upon defeating an enemy, she enters a special state called “Amplification” and immediately gains an extra turn. During this extra turn and while in the Amplification state, Seele’s damage is increased by 80% for 3 turns.
As with other extra turn mechanics, buffs on Seele will not tick down, and the extra turn neither affects nor delays her upcoming turns. During this state, Seele is also unable to use her Ultimate.
Her Ultimate — Butterfly Flurry — is a single-target nuke that also places her in the Amplification state, though this does not grant an extra turn unless the Ultimate kills an enemy.
Despite its simplicity, choosing the right moment to use her Ultimate for a well-coordinated kill chain is a key part of Seele’s high-ceiling gameplay loop. Generally, players will want to use her Ultimate before chaining her Skills on a target.
Once a rather straightforward single-target attack that increased her Speed over 3 turns, Seele’s Skill received a significant damage increase with her Novaflare update while retaining the Speed boost. Additionally, whenever an ally’s attack reduces an enemy’s HP below 50%, Seele will automatically launch this Skill against that target without consuming a Skill Point or generating any Energy — or against a random target if the original one dies before she attacks.
This effect can trigger once per Seele’s turn and serves as one of her primary ways to trigger her Resurgence passive.
Major Traces & Techniques
Seele’s first major trace — Night Shade — increases her damage by 50% whenever she defeats an enemy, stacking up to 3 times and lasting for 3 turns, further amplifying her gameplay loop of chaining kills. Her second major trace — Lacerate — further boosts her damage output during the Amplification state by increasing her Quantum Resistance Penetration by 25%. Her third major trace — Rippling Waves — grants her a 20% Action Advance whenever she uses her Basic Attack, which can help alleviate her Skill Point consumption.
When Seele uses her Technique, she enters Stealth for a period, making her undetectable by enemies. Upon entering battle in this state, she immediately enters the Amplification state and deals damage to a random enemy equal to her Skill’s Multiplier. This is a guaranteed Critical Hit.
Here’s the revised version
Seele already had a very high ceiling before her Novaflare update, largely due to the strength of her reset mechanic — Resurgence. Her kit was essentially the blueprint for the hypercarry archetype, and over time, she gained even more options to utilize it effectively, with only her Multiplier Values holding her back.
With the Novaflare update, Seele received a much-needed boost to her damage output through increased numbers on both her Skill and Ultimate. The ability to automatically launch her Skill against low-HP enemies also vastly improves her overall damage output — particularly against multiple enemies — while allowing her to access her Resurgence passive far more frequently.
Coincidentally, Seele’s update arrived shortly after one of her best hypercarry supports — Sparkle — received a significant upgrade of her own, and the new auto-Skill mechanic also allows Seele to synergize well with Cerydra, one of the strongest supports for Skill-based hypercarries.
All of this breathes new life into her character without altering her core gameplay, making Seele considerably more viable in today’s environment — particularly in content where she can make full use of her ability to chain kills.
That said, while Seele has improved significantly, she remains far from the very top tier of the meta, which continues to be dominated by archetypes with fully synergistic teams and competitive multipliers — such as the Remembrance and Elation teams.
Seele HSR Core Skills

Basic Attack – Thwack: Deals Quantum DMG equal to 100% of Seele’s ATK to a single enemy.

Skill – Sheathed Blade: Increases Seele’s SPD by 25% for 3 turn(s) and deals Quantum DMG equal to 360% of Seele’s ATK to one designated enemy.
After an ally target attacks, if the attack target’s current HP percentage is 50% or below, Seele will automatically use her Skill at that target 1 time. This Skill does not consume Skill Points or regenerate Energy. This effect can only be triggered 1 time per turn and resets at the start of Seele’s turn. If there are no valid targets to attack, she attacks the enemy target with the lowest HP percentage instead.

Ultimate – Butterfly Flurry: Seele enters the Amplification state and deals Quantum DMG equal to 720% of her ATK to one designated enemy.

Talent – Resurgence: Enters the Amplification state upon defeating an enemy with Basic ATK, Skill, or Ultimate, and receives an extra turn. While in the Amplification state, the DMG dealt by Seele increases by 80% for 3 turn(s).
Enemies defeated in the extra turn provided by “Resurgence” will not trigger another “Resurgence.”

Technique – Phantom Illusion: After using her Technique, Seele gains Stealth for 20 second(s). While Stealth is active, Seele cannot be detected by enemies. And when entering combat by attacking enemies, Seele will immediately enter the Amplification state and deals Quantum DMG equal to Seele’s Skill DMG multiplier to random enemy target 1 time. This DMG is a guaranteed CRIT Hit.
Seele HSR Traces

Nightshade: When defeating an enemy target, increases the wearer’s DMG dealt by 50%. This effect can stack up to 3 time(s) and lasts for 3 turn(s).

Lacerate: While Seele is in the Amplification state, her Quantum RES PEN increases by 25%.

Rippling Waves: After using a Basic ATK, Seele’s next action advances by 20%.
Seele HSR Eidolons

- Extirpating Slash: When dealing DMG to an enemy whose HP percentage is 80% or lower, increases CRIT Rate by 15%, and ignores 20% of target’s DEF.
- Dancing Butterfly: The SPD Boost effect of Seele’s Skill can stack up to 2 time(s).
- Dazzling Tumult: Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Basic ATK Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10.
- Flitting Phantasm: Seele regenerates 15 Energy when she defeats an enemy.
- Piercing Shards: Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
- Shattering Shambles: After attacking with Ultimate, Seele inflicts “Butterfly Flurry” on the target for 3 turn(s). Enemy targets in “Butterfly Flurry” will additionally take 1 instance of True DMG equal to 30% of Seele’s Ultimate DMG after receiving an attack. When the target under the “Butterfly Flurry” state is defeated by any unit, Seele’s Talent will also be triggered. When Seele is knocked down, the “Butterfly Flurry” inflicted on the enemies will be removed
Eidolon Priority
This Novaflare leaves most of Seele’s Eidolons unchanged, with the exception of her E1 and E6. Her E1, previously a flat 15% Crit Rate increase when attacking enemies below 80% HP, gains an additional 20% Defense Ignore with the update. Her E6 receives both a duration increase — from 1 turn to 3 turns — and a Multiplier Value boost, raising its True Damage per instance from 15% to 30%, making it considerably more viable than before.
That said, Seele’s best Eidolon remains her E4. The seemingly minor 15 Energy gained each time she defeats an enemy gives her more opportunities to trigger Resurgence by spamming her Ultimate, particularly in content with many low-to-medium HP enemies such as Pure Fiction.
None of Seele’s Eidolons are vital or game-changing to her playstyle, however. Since Seele is available as an off-banner pull through the Celestial Invitation system, players should never actively pull for her Eidolons. Instead, players who enjoy Seele can simply add her as one of their off-banner choices and acquire Eidolons passively over time.

Premium Options

In The Night: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 18% / 21% / 24% / 27% / 30%. While the wearer is in battle, for every 10 SPD that exceeds 100, increases DMG dealt by Basic ATK and Skill by 6% / 7% / 8% / 9% / 10%. At the same time, increases the CRIT DMG of Ultimate by 12% / 14% / 16% / 18% / 20%. This effect can stack up to 6 time(s).
Seele’s Signature Light Cone remains, to this day, a strong option not only for her but for Hunt damage dealers in general, thanks to how universally applicable it is — and its availability in the shop makes it highly accessible. It provides Seele with a significant damage boost, with the caveat that she needs to invest a little into Speed to fully benefit from it. Players who want to maximize the boost can invest further through Speed substats or even a Speed Boot.

The Hell Where Ideals Burn: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 16%. When entering combat, if the allies’ Skill Points limit is 6 or higher, increases the wearer’s ATK by 40%. After each use of the wearer’s Skill, increases the wearer’s ATK by 10%, stacking up to 4 time(s).
A very strong Light Cone that most players who pulled during Patch 3.4 will likely already own. Since one of Seele’s best supports is Sparkle — who naturally fulfills this Light Cone’s condition — Seele benefits from a massive Attack boost essentially for free, giving her considerably more flexibility when it comes to relic selection.

Swordplay: For each time the wearer hits the same target, DMG dealt increases by 8.0% / 10.0% / 12.0% / 14.0% / 16.0%, stacking up to 5.0 times (s). This effect will be dispelled when the wearer changes targets.
An exceptional option for most Hunt units, particularly at Superimposition 5. While Seele has no trouble stacking and re-stacking this Light Cone’s effect, given her Skill’s multiple hits, it does carry a slight anti-synergy with her tendency to switch targets frequently. Even so, the boost it provides remains very strong in most scenarios.
F2P Options

Cruising In The Stellar Sea: Increases the wearer’s Crit rate by 8.0% / 10.0% / 12.0% / 14.0% / 16.0%, and increases their Crit rate against enemies with HP percentage less than or equal to 50.0% by an extra 8.0% / 10.0% / 12.0% / 14.0% / 16.0%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, their Attack is increased by 20.0% / 25.0% / 30.0% / 35.0% / 40.0% for 2.0 turn(s).
Cruising in the Stellar Sea is a fantastic free-to-play option for Seele, thanks to its high base stats and strong synergy with its second effect.

HSR Seele Sub Stats
- Crit Rate / Crit Damage
- Attack
- Speed
Seele was the first limited Crit-based damage dealer and served as the prototype for many that followed — and her Novaflare update keeps her identity intact. As such, her gear choices are fairly cookie-cutter for a Crit damage dealer: Crit Rate or Crit Damage on her Body piece, Attack% or Quantum Damage% on her Planar Sphere, and Attack% on her Link Rope. Her Boot choice depends on the team setup — an Attack% Boot is easier to work with, while a Speed Boot is better suited for more experienced players who can calculate specific Speed breakpoints for their team.
It is worth noting that some of Seele’s best supports — namely Sparkle, Robin, Cerydra, or Dan Heng: Permansor Terrae — already provide a large amount of Attack, so players should opt for a Quantum Damage% Orb and Speed Boot when running these supports to avoid Attack oversaturation.
Main Stats Goal & Speedtuning:
A good rule of thumb for Seele is that Crit Rate is more valuable to her than Crit Damage, for a few reasons. First, her Ultimate only hits once, making it vulnerable to bad RNG — and Seele simply cannot afford a missed Crit when trying to secure kills and trigger her Talent. Additionally, several of her high-profile supports already provide an abundance of Crit Damage, such as Sparkle or Remembrance Trailblazer, making it less necessary to stack Crit Damage% on her through relics.
Seele’s Speed tuning is highly dependent on team setup and does not have a fixed Speed goal. When paired with Action Advance supports such as Sunday or Bronya, make sure their Speed is lower than Seele’s after she has used her Skill at least once, so that their Advance does not go to waste and desync the team. Generally, keeping Sunday or Bronya at around 134 Speed or above should be sufficient.
HSR Seele Relics
Option A

Genius of Brilliant Stars
- 2-Pc: Increases Quantum DMG by 10%.
- 4-Pc: When the wearer deals DMG to the target enemy, ignores 10% DEF. If the target enemy has Quantum Weakness, the wearer additionally ignores 10% DEF.
Against Quantum-weak enemies, this set grants Seele a significant amount of Defense Ignore. Several of her notable teammates also provide Defense Shred — such as Silver Wolf, Pela, or even Sunday and Sparkle with certain Eidolons — making this set her best-performing option in most scenarios.
Option B

Scholar Lost in Erudition
- 2-Pc: Increases CRIT Rate by 8%.
- 4-Pc: Increases DMG dealt by Skill and Ultimate by 20%. After using Ultimate, additionally increases the DMG dealt by the next Skill by 25%.
A more generic option for Seele, as this set provides an unconditional damage boost alongside a much-needed 8% Crit Rate.
HSR Seele Planar Sets
Option A

Rutilant Arena
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 8%. When the wearer’s current CRIT Rate reaches 70% or higher, DMG dealt by Basic ATK and Skill increases by 20%.
Since the majority of Seele’s damage comes from her Skill, this set should provide her with the strongest damage output boost — though the margin over other options is relatively small. With her upgraded kit, Skill’s damage is even more important to her damage profile, as it benefits her extra Skill from her Talent as well as when paired with Cerydra.
Option B

Inert Salsotto
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Crit Rate by 8%. When the wearer’s current Crit Rate reaches 50% or higher, the Damage dealt by the wearer’s Ultimate and follow-up attacks increases by 15%.
While her Ultimate contributes a smaller share of her overall damage output, it is still quite significant — and in practice, Salsotto performs comparably to Rutilant Arena.
Option C

Firmament Frontline: Glamoth
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD is equal to or higher than 135/160, the wearer deals 12%/18% more DMG.
Seele’s Skill naturally fulfils Glamoth’s first condition by default, and she can meet the second Speed threshold with the help of teammates or by running a Speed Boot with some Speed substats.
Option D

Space Sealing Station
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, the wearer’s ATK increases by an extra 12%.
Since Seele almost always exceeds 120 Speed, this set grants her a consistent 24% Attack boost — particularly valuable when not used with Supports that give Attack boost, given the lack of Attack% buffs in her own kit.
HSR Seele Teammates
Seele moves very frequently, so buffs on her can run out quickly. She highly values Support whose buff uptime is high or permanent, is SP positive, and can provide extra turns for her.
Harmony/Nihility

Cerydra: Cerydra was already an excellent pairing for Seele, as her ability to duplicate Seele’s Skills provides more reset opportunities. With this Novaflare update, their synergy improves further — Seele’s auto-Skill now also increments Cerydra’s Military Merit buff counter, allowing Seele to trigger Cerydra’s Skill Duplication even more frequently.

Sparkle: Sparkle was already one of Seele’s best supports before this update, and with both of them receiving notable improvements from their respective Novaflares, Sparkle has risen to become Seele’s best teammate in most situations. Seele is notoriously Skill Point-hungry — particularly when paired with Cerydra — but this becomes a non-issue alongside Sparkle, who also provides a wealth of valuable and rare buffs that Seele can take full advantage of.

Sunday, Remembrance Trailblazer and Bronya: All three are powerful Harmony options that can provide Action Advance to Seele — an effect she greatly values — and can each be chosen depending on the situation and team composition.

Robin / Tribbie: Both are aura buffers with strong damage amplification whose buffs are tied to their own turns rather than Seele’s, ensuring she consistently benefits from their effects.

Cipher / Silver Wolf: Seele has fantastic synergy with Nihility amplifiers, as their damage boosts are less prone to saturation compared to Harmony units and are tied to enemy turns rather than Seele’s own.
Sustain

Dan Heng – Permansor Terrae: Dan Heng – Permansor Terrae is Seele’s best sustain option, thanks to his Souldragon’s ability to maintain the Shield even as Seele moves very frequently. He also provides a substantial Attack boost for Seele, allowing her to focus more on Speed and Crit substats.
HSR Seele Teams
Seele is a classic hypercarry who wants the team built around her. She scales well with buffs and Action Advance, and thanks to the generic nature of her kit, she is considerably less restrictive in her teammate choices compared to many other damage dealers.
Seele Hypercarry Team

These are some classic Seele hypercarry team compositions, generally focused on buffing her and maximizing her number of turns. Since Seele scales so well with additional amplifiers, sustainless teams are a viable option for low-turn clears — though this is only recommended for experienced players, as Seele is extremely fragile and can force frequent resets if she takes hits.
HSR Seele Pull Value and Conclusion
Post-Novaflare, Seele has become considerably more viable in the modern landscape. Players who have had her since the 1.x era will definitely get good mileage out of her with decent investment in supporting teammates and gear.
That said, actively pulling for Seele is still not advisable. Despite her improvements, she is simply not a strong investment prospect when modern damage dealers can achieve more with less — especially as Honkai: Star Rail increasingly rewards building complete team archetypes and keeps versatile hypercarries in check. It is worth adding Seele to the Celestial Invitation roster, however, so that players have a chance of obtaining her when losing pity, as she is considerably stronger than most standard units.
