How to Play a Faith Build in Elden Ring

Welcome to our Elden Ring Faith build, updated for 2024!

Faith is an amazing tool to have in your arsenal when it comes to Elden Ring.

You have many different options that provide value to your build, ranging from defensive to offensive spells that empower your weapons and scale.

Faith may be the perfect class for you if you like spellcasting or hybrid spellcasting!

In this guide, we will discuss the pros and cons, a leveling guide, best seals, weapons, armor, talisman, and more to help you get started with Faith in Elden Ring.

Pros

  • Tons of spells
  • A good amount of weapons that scale with Faith
  • Good build flexibility

Cons

  • Some of the better spells and weapons only become available later in the game
  • Requires investment in multiple stats to make different builds work
  • Often outclassed by other classes

How to Level Attributes

Our starting class will be Confessor, mainly because this gives us the best stat for a hybrid caster. We aim to find a good balance between spell casting and using weapons for this build. If you want to go more one way or the other, you can invest more into that side!

Starting Stats Lv25 Lv50 Lv100 Lv150
Vigor 10 16 25 30 40
Endurance 10 10 15 18 28
Strength 12 15 18 30 30
Dexterity 12 12 15 20 20
Mind 13 13 13 13 13
Intelligence 9 9 9 9 9
Faith 14 20 25 50 80
Arcane 9 9 9 9 9

We aim first to get Faith to around 25 while still investing in Strength because this allows us to wield Faith weapons. We meanwhile also level Vigor till 25, where we will leave it for a while till we have other stats till a certain point.

Around level 50 we want to reach these stats, and also level dexterity up a little for some weapons so that we can pretty much wield most weapons by this point. We also put some stats into Endurance so we can wield weapons while not running out of stamina.

By level 100, we are aiming to have Faith at 50. By this point, you can cast every spell with it, and upgrading it further is mostly to increase damage. The same goes for Strength and Dex, with only the Black Blade requiring more Strength.

After this, you can level whatever you prefer but we will go into specific stats to min max a little. We want to get Faith till 80 to get the max out of that stat while also keeping Endurance and Vigor up. You can change it however you want cause after 50 Faith, you only get more damage out of it.

Best Sacred Seals

Finger Seal

Finger Seal

The basic Sacred Seal and the one you start the game with if you choose the faith classes. It is not the best by a long shot, but it is very good to get you through the early game if you aim for a pure Incantation caster build.

  • Location: Purchased from the Twin Maiden Husk or obtained by starting as the Confessor or Prophet.
  • Required Stats: 4 Strength, 10 Faith.

Erdtree Seal

Erdtree Seal

This is by far the best Sacred Seal in Elden Ring if you aim for pure Faith. It has the best scaling, making it the go-to option for many builds unless you want to go for a hybrid build using one of the Hybrid scaling seals.

  • Location: Volcano Manor, Found behind an Omenkiller in a prison cell.
  • Required Stats: 40 Faith.

Godslayer Seal

Godslayer Seal

One of the earlier Sacred Seals you can find, it boosts Godslayer Incantations, which are pretty good! It also has Strength scaling, making it good for a hybrid build where you use Melee Weapons and Incantations.

  • Location: Stormveil Castle, in a cellar behind a Stonesword gate.
  • Required Stats: 4 Strength, 27 Faith.

Frenzied Flame Seal

Frenzied Flame Seal

One of the more niche Sacred Seals, the Frenzied Flame Seal, is specifically used for madness builds. Even though madness is next to useless for PVE, it is super strong in PVP, making this seal a good choice if you are aiming for PVP mostly.

  • Location: Rewarded upon completing Lightseeker Hyetta’s questline.
  • Required Stats: None.

Clawmark Seal

Clawmark Seal

The Clawmark Seal is the best Sacred Seal if you want to dabble into Incantations without investing too much into Faith. This way you can still go full-on Strength, while still dealing a lot of damage with your Incantations. This is mainly due to the Strength scaling on the weapon. It is also very easy to obtain early. It does boost Beast Incantations but these are not the greatest so you mostly use it for the Strength Scaling.

  • Location: Received from the Beat Clergyman upon giving him 1 Deathroot.
  • Required Stats: 4 Strength, 10 Faith.

Dragon Communion Seal

Dragon Communion Seal

Another hybrid-scaling Sacred Seal and one of the best. It has hybrid scaling with Arcane, which is used for both Blood and Dragon Incanations. If you dabble in Arcane, this Sacred Seal will be the perfect fit for you. It also boosts Dragon Incantation power and is easy to find, making it even better!

  • Location: Limgrave, Dropped by a Banished Knight in the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave.
  • Required Stats: 10 Faith, 10 Arcane.

Best Weapons

Blasphemous Blade

Blasphemous Blade

The best Faith weapon, which it has been since patch 1, is Blasphemous Blade. It has a ton of good stuff going for it. It has healing on kills, a very good Ash of War, and good scalings and damage. Overall, it is a very strong weapon that reaches the top of all weapons.

  • Location: Purchased from Enia with the Remembrance of the Blasphemous.
  • Required Stats: 22 Strength, 21 Faith.

Godslayer’s Greatsword

Godslayer’s Greatsword has decent damage and good scaling, but the real power comes from the Ash of War. It deals a large amount of %HP burn damage with the Black Flame, which shreds most bosses. You do need to mostly play around the Ash of War to fully make use of this weapon.

  • Location: Caelid, Reward for killing the Godskin Apostle in the Divine Tower of Caelid.
  • Required Stats: 22 Strength, 15 Dexterity, 20 Faith.

Winged Scythe

Winged Scythe

Another very strong weapon because of its amazing Ash of War. The Ash of War sends a scythe homing on the target which deals a good amount of damage for not that much FP. The default moveset is also very good because it’s a scythe that can deal damage through shields.

  • Location: Limgrave, Found in the Tombsward Ruins.
  • Required Stats: 16 Strength, 16 Dexterity, 24 Faith.

Maliketh’s Black Blade

Maliketh’s Black Blade

Collosal Weapons deal a massive amount of damage in general for the trade-off of slower attacks. But the Black Blade has another thing going for it, that being the Ash of War. It deals with the Destined Death burn effect which is arguably the strongest burn in the entire game. This gives this weapon a big edge over others.

  • Location: Purchased from Enia with the Remembrance of the Black Blade.
  • Required Stats: 34 Strength, 12 Dexterity, 20 Faith.

Coded Sword

Coded Sword

A very unique weapon having exclusively Faith scaling making this perfect for a full Faith/spellcaster playthrough. It also has a unique Ash of War dealing a large projectile of Damage that goes through defense and blocking.

  • Location: Leyndell, Found in the Fortified Manor.
  • Required Stats: 20 Faith.

Envoy’s Longhorn

Envoy’s Longhorn

Probably the most interesting weapon on here, the Envoy’s Longhorn is a caster weapon. You mostly use it for its Ash of War. It shoots bubbles at a target which deal both massive damage and great knockback. This weapon has true value in PVP, especially in high areas.

  • Location: Dropped by Oracle Envoy enemies that wield it.
  • Required Stats: 10 Strength, 12 Dexterity, 16 Faith.

Sacred Relic Sword

Sacred Relic Sword

The biggest downside of this weapon is the fact that you get it from the Final Boss. Apart from that it has amazing scalings, and is the best weapon for rune farming because of its Ash of War. The Ash of War deals heavy AOE Damage making for the best farming. The weapon also has good scalings and a good move set making for an overall good weapon.

  • Location: Purchased from Enia with the Elden Remembrance.
  • Required Stats: 14 Strength, 24 Dexterity, 22 Faith.
Honorable Mentions

Some more weapons utilize Faith, but they are more limited than others above, making them fall out into the honorable mentions.

  • Sword of Night and Flame
  • Cipher Pata
  • Black Knife
  • Gargoyles Black Blade
  • Golden Halberd
  • Gargoyle’s Black Halberd
  • Eclipse Shotel
  • Golden Order Greatsword

Best Incantations

Golden Vow

Golden Vow

Increases you and your allies’s Attack and Defense. This is an amazing buff, if you are playing multiplayer the value only increases but even when alone this buff is insane.

  • Location: Mt. Gelmir, Found inside the Corpse-Stenched Shack.
  • Incantation School: Ancient Erdtree Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 25 Faith.

Black Blade

Black Blade

Blackblade spinning slash that emits light. Deals a good amount of damage but the real value comes from the burn. The burn is %HP based and lowers a portion of the enemy’s HP for a while making this an absolute powerhouse against high HP bosses.

  • Location: Purchased from Enia with Remembrance of the Black Blade.
  • Incantation School: Golden Order Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 46 Faith.

Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Strike

Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Strike

Summons red lightning that spreads on impact. Considered by many including myself to be the best Incantation in the game. The damage this spell does is absurd and that goes for both PVE and PVP. going pure Faith with these one-shot most enemies and does insane damage on bosses.

  • Location: Purchased after giving a merchant the Ancient Dragon Prayerbook(found in Crumbling Farum Azul).
  • Incantation School: Ancient Dragon Cult Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 26 Faith.

Lightning Spear

Lightning Spear

Hurls a lightning spear before the caster. This is a super flexible spell. You can either cast it fast by tapping or hold it for a charged bolt that deals more damage. Both still have a very fast cast time, making them handy against fast enemies. You also get it pretty early compared to most Incantations on this list.

  • Location: Purchased after giving a merchant the Dragon Cult Prayerbook(Dropped by a Knight near the Artist’s Shack in Lithuania).
  • Incantation School: Ancient Dragon Cult Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 17 Faith.

Flame Fall Upon Them

Flame Fall Upon Them

It hurls several fireballs at once. This spell is often overlooked because of the spread of the fireballs, but once you know how to use it this weapon turns into a powerhouse. You cast this on big targets that are easy to hit. Especially Erdtree Avatars get demolished by this cause of their weakness to fire.

  • Location: Purchased after giving a merchant the Giant’s Prayerbook(Looted on top of the Guardians Garrison in Mountaintops).
  • Incantation School: Fire Giant Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 28 Faith.

Catch Flame

Catch Flame

Momentarily sparks a flame from hand. Very good spammable spell that deals great damage and staggers easily. It is also obtained from the moment you get to the Roundtable Hold, making it a solid early-mid game choice. The late game does lose some of its power because the alternatives become available, but it’s still a great spell!

  • Location: Purchased from Brother Corhyn.
  • Incantation School: Fire Monk Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 8 Faith.

Stone of Gurranq

Stone of Gurranq

Hurls a stone from the caster. This incantation does decent damage, but its real power lies in the amount of stagger damage it does. You can easily stagger enemies, making for free critical attacks! It’s a great option for more hybrid casters.

  • Location: Reward for giving the Beast Clergyman 6 Deathroots.
  • Incantation School: Bestial Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 13 Faith.

Ekzyke’s Decay

Ekzyke’s Decay

Spews Scarlet Rot breath from above. This is one of the most frustrating PVP spells in the game. It is a large AOE Scarlet Rot field that lingers for a long time, even though it can be interrupted. It is also good on PVE but less so than PVP.

  • Location: Purchased from the Dragon Communion Altar for 2 Dragon Hearts after killing Decaying Ekzykes in Caelid.
  • Incantation School: Dragon Communion Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 23 Faith, 15 Arcane.

Burn, O Flame!

Burn, O Flame!

Raises a series of flame pillars around the caster. Even though this spell can be risky with its cast time, and needing you to stand still, the reward is insane. It deals large AOE damage with its pillars that also knock up anybody caught by them. You do get this later in the game but that’s fine cause its real value comes into play with PVP.

  • Location: Purchased from Enia with the Remembrance of the Fire Giant.
  • Incantation School: Fire Giant Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 27 Faith.

Flame Grant Me Strength

Flame Grant Me Strength

Raises physical and fire-affinity attack power. This is a very good buff that is good even if you don’t have a fire weapon. The value does increase if you wield a fire weapon or use fire Incantations. If you do a flame build, this is almost necessary.

  • Location: Caelid is located on a body behind Fort Gael.
  • Incantation School: Fire Monk Incantations.
  • Required Stats: 15 Faith.

Best Flask Distribution

Flask Distribution depends on how you want to play your Elden Ring Faith build. If you aim for a full-on Incantation Caster, then a 7-7 flask split is the way to go. If you instead aim for a hybrid build, then aim to go 10-4 in favor of healing.

Best Summons

Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff

Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff

Kristoff is a defensive powerhouse who can tank the boss for a long time while dishing out some decent damage.

  • Location: Dropped by Ancient Hero of Zamor inside the Sainted Hero’s Grave west of Leyndell

Black Knife Tiche

Black Knife Tiche

  • Location: Found on a corpse inside the Fringe folk Hero’s Grave

Lhutel the Headless

Lhutel the Headless
