How to Play Emissary — TFT Set 13: Into the Arcane

Welcome to our trait guide, where we’ll be covering the Emissary trait in the new TFT Set 13: Into the Arcane. In this guide, we’ll explain how Emissary works, cover the different champions, provide notable Augment choices, and cover some potential team comps.

Explore all of the new Set 13 traits here!

Emissary is a unique trait in which 1 or 4 units activate it. The trait gives unique bonuses to each Emissary making it a flexible trait for a single unit and even when there are 4 units to activate it. Due to each unit having a unique trait it gives the player additional options to build around which is great for team building!

How TFT Emissary Works

Emissary Trait Bonus

tft set 13 emissary

Champions: Tristana 2g / Nami 3g / Ambessa 4g / Garen 4g

This trait is active only when you have exactly 1 or 4 unique Emissaries.

  • (1) Gain that Emissary’s bonus
  • (4) Gain all bonuses. Emissaries gain 300 Health and 30% DA
  • Ambessa: Allies gain 2 Armor and Magic Resist for each opponent defeated.
  • Garen: On Combat Start, Garen and allies to his left and right gain 20% of his max Health.
  • Nami: Allies’ attacks grant 2 bonus Mana.
  • Tristana: Allies gain 6% Attack Speed per star level.

Emissary Synergy

Here are the additional traits of the Emissary champions that give the opportunity to create trait webs:

  • Tristana (2G) – Artillerist
  • Nami (3G) – Sorcerer
  • Ambessa (4G) – Conqueror + Quickstriker
  • Garen (4G) – Watcher

The Emissary Trait

Emissary is a unique trait in which it is active by 1 or 4 unique units. Ambessa, Garen, Nami, and Tristana make up the trait and don’t have natural synergy with each other so unless the 4 piece trait is broken Emissary will likely be a single active trait.

Tristana has a unique trait which gives allies attack speed per a star level allowing Tristana reroll with Artillerist to be an option to play with Emissary.

TFT Emissary Champions

Tristana (2G) – Emissary + Artillerist

Tristana fires a cannonball at a target, dealing (AD) physical damage. If they die, the cannonball ricochets to the nearest enemy dealing the overkill damage. When it does permanently gain percent attack damage.

Tristana’s kit further makes her a rerollable carry as she will gain permanent damage through kills. Having an early Tristana as well as AD components is an early sign that Tristana reroll might be the way to go.

Because she does overkill damage from a cast that makes Infinity Edge and critical damage a solid item on her.

Nami (3G) – Emissary + Sorcerer

[Link to Champion Page]

Nami launches a wave at a target that bounces 3 times to enemies within 3 hexes and deals AP magic damage.
It is important to note that Nami doesn’t heal which is typically expected of her and rather than being a utility unit she is a flat damage unit that potentially becomes a rerollable carry in the Sorcerer tree.

When her Emissary is active her basic attacks give her mana. This allows her build more AP even if she doesn’t have a mana item.

Ambessa (4G) – Emissary + Conqueror + Quickstriker

tft set 13 ambessa

Ambessa is a three trait unit including Emissary. Ambessa’s ability switches between each cast. The first is chains which she gains +1 range where attacks deal (AD) physical damage. On cast, she dashes to a target and strikes in a half-circle dealing (AD) physical damage to enemies hit. Her other ability, fists, she gains Omnivamp (AP) and attacks twice as fast. On cast, she briefly stuns a target before slamming them into the ground dealing (AD) physical damage and dashes away.

As mentioned earlier she has AD and AP scaling along with being a melee carry which will make Titan’s Resolve a premium item on her.
Ambessa’s Emissary trait allows her allies to gain Armor and Magic Resist for each opponent defeated.

Garen (4G) – Emissary + Watcher

tft set 13 garen

[Link to Champion Page]

Garen has a passive where he heals health after dealing damage as well as an active where he gains additional shield based on his AP and Health. He slams a sowrd on his target, dealing (AD) physical damage to them and (AD) damage to enemies within 2 hexes.

Garen’s Emissary trait gives his adjacent allies percent max health. On top of this he has the Watcher trait for additional tankiness. Garen will likely be an Emissary within traits that use Watchers as their front line.

Best TFT Emissary Augments

In general, Augments like Crest and Crown will always be good, but there are definitely more notable ones to explore and discover. As we make our way to the PBE, we’ll be sure to test a variety of combinations and update this article with what we find.

TFT Emissary Team Comps

The set has yet to even come out on PBE yet, and unfortunately, our team was unable to playtest the Set this time around. While we can’t recommend team comps at the moment, we’ll be sure to come back and update this article once we have a good feel for things.

But for now, here are some ideas we’re thinking of trying out:

  • Tristana Reroll
