Diablo 4 Item Trading and Currency

Diablo 4 hosts many items for players to find and gather for many different builds. This can make trading an essential part of the game for easy access to some rarer items. This is especially true when we start considering Greater Affixed gear, making trading rather lucrative.

In this guide, we’ll go over trading with other players, what items are and aren’t tradable, and some stats to watch for that may be of a higher-than-normal value.

How to Trade

Inviting in Diablo 4 is rather straightforward, but some requirements must be met to enable trade easily.

  1. The person you are trying to trade with should ideally be on your friend’s list. This is to make inviting them to a party and thus the same instance much easier.
  2. Once you and the person you wish to trade with are in the same instance, open the “Action Wheel” and select “Invite to trade.” Ensure you are relatively close to the person you wish to trade with.
  3. After that, it is up to them to accept the trade, and once they have, a new trade window will appear.
  4. Once the trade window is up, you and the person you’re trading with will display the items they wish to trade within said window.
    • Ensure you have the items you wish to trade in your inventory, as you cannot access the stash.
  5. Please take a moment and hover over the item your partner is trading to ensure it’s the expected item. If everything looks good, accept the trade. Once both parties have accepted, the trade will be complete.

Tradable and Untradable Items

There are a few items within Diablo 4 that are tradable and are untradable by default. There are also items, mainly equipment, that are initially tradable but, once Enchanted, Tempered, or Masterworked, will become untradable/account-bound, so keep that in mind. What items are tradable, and which are not?

Tradable Untradeable
  • Common Items
  • Magic Items
  • Rare Items
  • Legendary Items
  • Unique Items
  • Gold
  • Gems
  • Elixirs
  • Incense
  • Boss Summoning Materials
  • All currencies except Gold
  • Items that have been Enchanted, Tempered or Masterworked.
  • Quest Items
  • Scroll of Escape
  • Mythic Unique Items (Ubers)

How to Find Trade Partners and Items

You can find both items and trade partners relatively easily in Diablo 4 through Diablo 4’s in-game dedicated trade channel. It’s always a good idea to have this channel up, as some decent items can show up, but there are some steps you should take to advertise here.

  • Keep an eye on the channel to find people who have/need what you need/have.
  • You may notice people linking items. With the channel up, you can open your inventory, hold Shift, and Left-click an item to paste a description of the item into the chat window.

D4 Inviting To Trade

Trading Currency

The most widely used currency in Diablo 4 currently is Gold. Gold can be used for many things, such as to respec your character, repairing items, Tempering and Masterworking gear, and even crafting Mythics at the Occultist. This gives Gold a purpose and a natural sink, so it’s equally coming in and leaving the game, helping it retain some value.

That said, the longer a season goes on, the more common it is for people to start trading in Boss Summoning Materials, as they are always helpful throughout a season. In the future, it may come about that more things become valuable items for trade.

Valuable Items

There are many different items in Diablo 4, and it can be hard at times to gauge what is and isn’t helpful, especially for all classes. It’s not uncommon for people to ask for a price check on certain items.

To understand items, it’s always a good idea to keep tabs on what uniques the current meta build of your class is using, in case you drop a unique that it utilizes. Another thing to remember is stats; specific stats are typically used all around, and getting an item with said stat Masterworked could hold value. Here are some stats to keep in mind.

  • Critical Strike Chance
  • Critical Strike Damage
  • +Ranks to Skills (especially passives on amulets)
  • Life

Avoiding Scams

Unfortunately, as with many games, some players will try to take advantage and use tricks and tactics to obtain things from you. It’s always a good idea to be diligent with any trade and double-check everything before accepting a trade.

Always double-check items within a trade window. Ensure the item they are trading is the item you want and the item you’re trading is also correct.

Some people will pretend to close the trade window or quickly attempt to switch out an item to scam you; always be skeptical when this happens.

Always use the in-game trade function to trade; there’s no reason you need to drop items for other players.

In Conclusion

Trading in Diablo 4 is a valuable asset usable by everyone if they wish. It’s a great way to gear your character in some best-in-slot gear, as you’re not always able to find the perfect item for every slot. Always keep up-to-date on what items have value through the use of build sites, and it’s never bad to double-check the price of an item with other players.

Learning to flip items is also a good way to make yourself rich, so get out there and start trading!
