How to Play Fated — TFT Set 11: Inkborn Fables
Welcome to our TFT trait guide series, where I’ll be covering the Fated trait and how to play it. I’ll be covering how Fated works, analyzing each champion, and go through some potential team comps.
Fated is a new trait that grants unique stat bonuses depending what units you pair together. Each champion will have their own unique bonus that is activated when they are linked together. This can make for interesting combinations that you can take advantage of.

How Fated Works
Fated Trait Bonus
Hover and drop one Fated unit over another to form a pair and unlock a Fated Bonus. Your pair gains bonus HP.
- (3) Pair gets the Fated Bonus.
- (5) All Fated champions get 200% of the Fated Bonus
- (7) All Fated champions get 300% of the Fated Bonus
- (10) All Fated champions get 300% of EVERY Fated Bonus
Champions: Ahri (1), Yasuo (1), Kindred (2), Aphelios (3), Thresh (3), Syndra (4), Sett (5)
Fated Bonus:
- Ahri: 30 AP
- Yasuo: 350 Shield
- Kindred: 18% Attack Speed
- Aphelios: 25% AD
- Thresh: 18 Armor/MR
- Syndra: 11% more damage
- Sett: 15% Omnivamp
When you activate the first Fated trait (3), you will be able to link a pair of units together. Do this by hovering one over another for a short period.
Once linked, they will gain their unique Fated Bonus for themselves. If you have (5) or (7) Fated, this Fated Bonus will be spread across all your Fated units, at a higher multiplier.
For example, if you link Syndra and Sett together and have Fated (5), all of your Fated units will gain 22% more damage and 30% Omnivamp (200% multiplier).
Fated Synergy
Here’s a list of the traits you can branch into from the Fated units:
- Arcanist (Ahri/Syndra)
- Duelist (Yasuo)
- Dryad (Kindred)
- Reaper (Kindred)
- Sniper (Aphelios)
- Behemoth (Thresh)
- Umbral (Sett)
- Warden (Sett)
Looking at the roster, we have one class overlap with Ahri and Syndra both being Arcanist. Vertical Arcanist/Sorcerer comps have been a thing in TFT for a while now, so we can expect a similar case for Set 11.
With Ahri and Syndra both being Arcanist, we only need to add one more Fated unit to activated Fated (3). This can be a frontline unit like Thresh or Sett. Conversely, you can also go for Fated (7) and have easy access to Arcanist (2).
Outside of that, we have units like Yasuo and Kindred who also have carry potential. Kindred also has 3 traits, giving her multiple ways to be buffed up.
Fated Champions
Let’s briefly go over each Champion in the Fated trait and what you can do with them. To check the updated stats and ability values, be sure to check each Champion Page.
Ahri (1) – Fated + Arcanist
Ahri is a straight forward 1-cost magic damage unit, dealing damage to her target and adjacent enemies. Her ability does deal AoE damage, so she can be quite a solid item holder in the early game.
Ahri will be a decent item holder until you find Syndra in the late game. Just try to pick up an extra copy of Ahri to move your items over to Syndra in the late game.
Yasuo (1) – Fated + Duelist
Yasuo has quite an interesting ability this time around, dealing extra magic damage when he’s shielded. His Fated bonus grants him a Shield at the start of combat, and his ability also shields himself.
Notably, the Umbral trait also grants a shield to units on the Umbral Hex, so that’s a potential trait to pair with Yasuo.
Kindred (2) – Fated + Dryad + Reaper
Up next we have Kindred, who has strong carry potential with their three traits and damage ability. The Reaper trait allows Kindred to crit with their Ability, and the Dryad trait grants bonus stats as well.
There is a decent amount of overlap between Dryad and Fated, so you can combine these two traits together for one team comp.
Aphelios (3) – Fated + Sniper
Up next, we have Aphelios who’s ability deals damage and also Sunders, reducing enemy Armor. Aphelios can be a potential reroll carry in a Fated team comp.
In different metas, Vertical Fated with Syndra will be stronger, while in other patches, Aphelios reroll might perform better. Aphelios can be a strong unit to hold AD items for Fated comps, but with a lot of units being AP focused, there is a small lack of synergy.
Thresh (3) – Fated + Behemoth
Thresh is somewhat of the main tank for Fated as there is no 4-cost frontline unit. Sett is a frontline unit, but you shouldn’t depend on a 5-cost unit to build your comp.
Because of this, Behemoth can be a potential inclusion for Fated comps, you can also consider dropping Behemoth for Warden once you find Sett.
Syndra (4) – Fated + Arcanist
Syndra is the only 4-cost Fated unit, and she is a classic magic damage carry. Her ability deals magic damage and ramps up the more times she casts or when allies die.
Furthermore, while her ability may appear to be single target, if she has any overkill damage, she will target a new unit. Because of this, you won’t waste any damage casting on a low health enemy.
Her Fated trait is easy to activate with Ahri also being Fated, so a vertical Arcanist comp can likely flex in Fated (3) quite easily.
Sett (5) – Fated + Umbral + Warden
Lastly, we have Sett, who has 3 traits, but no Unique 5-cost trait. Usually, 5-cost units with 3 traits will have a unique trait like Great for Wukong or Artist for Hwei.
Sett has 3 normal traits, making him flex into more comps than other 5-costs. Notably, Illaoi is a 3-cost Warden Arcanist, meaning Sett can fit into Arcanist comps very easily for a 3rd Fated and 2nd Warden.
He squats his allies to his left and right, gaining permanent stats based on their Health. Because of this, the earlier you can find Sett the better.
Fated Best Augments
For this section, I’ll be covering some Augments that particularly synergize with the trait. Lots of Augments are universal, like economy based Augments or item Augments, but I’ll try to cover particular synergies to look out for.
The set has yet to come out on PBE yet, so I’ll only take a look at the trait specific Augments. I’ll definitely be back to add more as we learn more.

Fated Crest
Gain a Fated Emblem and a Kindred.
Fated (3) is quite an awkward trait to play because while you’re running 3 Fated units, only 2 units are really getting a buff. Because of this, having an Emblem can be very impactful. You can run other units to fill out traits while still activating the Fated buff on the two priority units.
An Emblem will also make it much easier to reach Fated (5) or (7), allowing you to buff up all of your Fated units. The Emblem will also allow you to buff up another potential carry, granting them bonus stats they wouldn’t normally have access to.
My Heart Will Go On
When one of your Fated pair dies, your team gains 100% of the surviving one’s bonus for the rest of combat. Gain an Ahri and a Yasuo.
The Fated specific Gold Augment is quite an interesting one. By the way it’s worded, I assume it will grant the same amount of Fated Bonus regardless of if you have (3), (5), or (7). This Augment is also powerful because the Augment grants your entire team the bonus, not just your Fated units.
If you’re playing a comp with Syndra and Ahri, you can place Ahri up front to die quickly. After Ahri dies, your entire team will gain Syndra’s Fated Bonus of Bonus Damage.
Fully Adapted
Gain an Adaptive Helm. Champions holding this item gain both effects, regardless of position.
Fully adapted Augment is great for any AP carry that needs a bit of mana generation. With Fully Adapted, Adaptive Helm will grant 35 AP, 40 Armor/MR, and 10 Mana every 3 seconds.
Adaptive Helm is also built with Tear and Negatron Cloak. Instead of building Blue Buff, you can build two Adaptive Helms and gain a t on of bonus stats.
Building Adaptive Helm also lets you slam your item earlier if you don’t have two Tears. You can slam Adaptive Helm, then build another one later instead of saving items for Blue Buff.
Fated Team Comps
With the meta settled for the most part, here are some of the standout Fated comps.
As the player base plays more and more games, stronger meta comps will definitely rise up or old comps may be nerfed. Be sure to stay up to date on the current meta at our TFT Team Comp Tier List.
Fated Dryad (Syndra/Azir Carry)
This comp is currently considered the strongest level 9 Fated board without any Emblem. Syndra is the main carry you look to build around, with Azir and Sett being your late game secondary carrys.
The Dryad trait has a lot of strong units like Ornn and Azir, so flexing the two traits together makes a strong team comp. With a Fated Emblem, you can look to drop Annie and add Yasuo/Aphelios to hit Fated 7. You lose Invoker while doing so which is unfortunate, but it’s an option you have.
Adaptive Helm is also a very powerful item when combined with the Fully Adpated Augment. This will grant both bonuses to the wearer. This will give Syndra lots of AP, some Armor/MR, and mana generation.
Fated Porcelain Flex (Sniper Syndra)

Sniper Syndra has also been a very powerful team comp, combining the Fated trait with Porcelain. Aphelios is the connective piece that lets you hit 4 Sniper, and the frontline is mostly just Warden units.
Vertical Fated (Syndra Carry)
Similar to the above comp, this comp goes for Vertical Fated (7). This is a board you can look to build when at level 8. Ashe and Aphelios are strong AD options if you have a lot of AD items.
However, you don’t need to invest into AD items if you don’t have to. If you find more AP items, look to try and hit level 9 and transition to the team comp above.
Vertical Fated (Yasuo Ahri Reroll)
The Vertical Fated comp is a decent option if your early game is strong. You can link Ahri and Yasuo in the early game for some free stats. Then in the late game, pairing Syndra and Sett will be ideal for the Omnivamp and damage bonus.
For this vertical comp, Ahri and Yasuo are the main reroll carrys. You can go for this comp if you find a good amount of copies of them early and go for a hyper roll at 3-1. Otherwise, you should look to level up normally and go for a Syndra based comp instead.
Aphelios Reroll
Lastly, we have an Aphelios reroll comp that uses Fated (7). This comp is basically the same as a level 8 Syndra board, except we reroll for Aphelios 3. This can be a solid option if you have lots of AD items and find multiple copies of Aphelios.
In order to reach Fated 7 at level 8, this comp needs an Emblem on Ornn. You can make do at level 9 with Yasuo, but an Emblem will be ideal for this comp.
If you have enough AD items, you can make Ashe your Fated unit as well and put more items on her. Sett is also a strong AD item holder, so you should decide which unit to itemize based on your specific game.
