Overview

Mak is no stranger to Regeneration strategies, and among the cast he's usually the only one who can truly benefit from investing into it.

Other Heroes generally acquire sizeable amounts of Regen via skills like Venomous Vitality or Moth to a Flame, because otherwise it tends to be too slow to keep up.

But for Mak, Regen is part of the bigger picture. Forget passive defenses, and embrace its offensive capabilities. Let's dive into the Soul Ring build.

Core Combos and Synergies

How to Stack Regen

While there are a number of effective ways to gain Regen during combat, what takes this strategy to the next level is by stacking Regen outside of combat. The most efficient source is through The Tome of Yyahan, and thanks to the Catalyst rework it's much easier to pull off.

Aim to pickup and hold onto a couple Catalyst spawners while also ensuring you have enough Reagents to Transform. Potion Distillery is another fantastic way to further maximize your Regen stacking. Just be aware of your Stash space, because it will fill up fast!

Soul Ring + Pendulum

Soul Ring is a slow item with a powerful payoff. Any item that converts 1:1 to an offensive effect like Burn/Poison is always something to keep an eye on. That said, Regen isn't exactly the easiest requirement to fulfill, so if you want to make it work it'll take some effort.

As mentioned above this all comes down to stacking Regen outside of combat. Since Soul Ring has a long Cooldown, it's better to have a good baseline amount instead of waiting for your items to build Regen during the fight.

Pendulum is a key method for accelerating the otherwise sluggish Soul Ring. Upgrades matter here to improve the Charge speed, so be sure to prioritize a Diamond tier Pendulum ASAP.

Kripp had a Toxic enchanted Soul Ring to double its Poison output, and luckily enough landed a last minute Shiny enchant on the Pendulum. Having an offensive enchantment definitely makes a difference, so aim for that when possible. As for Pendulum, don't worry, Shiny isn't mandatory.

Hourglass + Energy Potion

Hourglass helps bring Soul Ring to a more approachable Cooldown. It's worth noting that Gold+ tier is likely needed, as Bronze/Silver are pretty underwhelming overall in terms of their reduction.

Energy Potion does a great job at accelerating the build and keeping it moving. Just be sure to get enough Ammo so that it's sustained throughout the majority of the fight.

Incense + Philosopher's Stone

Incense and Philosopher's Stone provide some Regen during the fight, helping further extend Soul Ring's reach. If you manage to get Philosopher's Stone early enough then there's a decent chance you've scaled it up alongside The Tome of Yyahan.

Supportive Items and Skills

Utility Items

Amber improves the Slow duration of Incense and the Heavy Venom, allowing them to be decent forms of disruption. The Tazidian Dagger provides extra Ammo for Energy Potion, since no other skills or Ammo support were acquired.

Overall these slots are very flexible, and you can make adjustments depending on what you find. Library would also be a great fit for its passive Cooldown reduction ability and anti-Weapon properties.

Thirsty

Thirsty is one of the strongest Regen stacking skills and is a Mak exclusive. As long as you have Potions in your build you can get a lot of value for a very little investment. Even outside of dedicated Regen builds it's solid, but alongside Soul Ring it's incredible.

Brewmaster

Brewmaster is another Mak exclusive skill, and arguably one of his best. Granting Multicast to a random Potion is insanely powerful. In Kripp's setup this allowed the Energy Potion to get Multicast and be more effective next to Pendulum, while also activating Thirsty twice as quick.

Hardly Workin'

Hardly Workin' is a part of why all the Heavy enchanted items were included in Kripp's setup. This allowed multiple items to trigger its effect, hopefully Charging the Soul Ring so that it goes off even faster. At worst, it Charges another Regen item for improved scaling.

Barbed Claws Variant

Barbed Claws + Shadowed Cloak

Barbed Claws + Shadowed Cloak is a powerful early game setup that can allow Mak to snowball a run from the start. Getting this pair early is a very reliable source of offense alongside a Damage skill like Left-Handed and Venom to stack more Poison.

Seeing as Barbed Claws is available at Bronze, it's very easy to stumble upon an enchanted variant via Catalyst Transforms. As a Multicast 3 item there's a lot of great hits, making it all the more potent for a smooth start.

Kripp's run is a perfect showcase of how you can leverage this powerful opener to an early 10 wins. Although knowing it can eventually fall off, it fits perfectly as an entry point that can later transition into a Soul Ring setup.

Venomous Dose + Runic Potion

Venomous Dose is a key enabler for activating the third Multicast of Barbed Claws. Having extra Regen is a nice benefit, but overall the quick Self-Poison is the main reason for it. While Regen is eventually built into the strategy, having Runic Potion is the safest means of survival. Lifesteal can make all the difference.

Secret Formula

Secret Formula is a slow but powerful payoff provided you have a strong enough base Regen. A lot of this should come from The Tome of Yyahan, but you can also utilize Philosopher's Stone to great effect. This helps put Soul Ring over the top, ensuring that it doesn't take long to close the game once it goes off.
