Overview

Self-Slow is a high synergy archetype that excels at scaling and Reloading Ammo. With the right pieces, it can quickly ramp up its Damage + Crit Chance, all while having room for utility items.

It's a strong build that can be played from start to finish, but does require a few key items in order to initially get it online.

Example Early Game Path

Core Synergies

  • Chains is the backbone of Self-Slow builds early on and is a key signpost when going into the archetype.
    • It provides solid Damage scaling from the get-go, but becomes significantly stronger once more synergies are found.
    • Note that most of the build begins at Silver-tier, so you may have to make do with other items in the meantime.
    • Tri-Net can be a reasonable host in the initial days before Boa Constrictor is found.
  • Flying Squirrel is always useful as a reliable targeted source of Haste. This can also help offset Slowing your own items.

Tips & Tricks

  • Hunting Knife + Hunter's Journal are Karnok Economy staples. They are also solid inclusions on board if you need something to fill in the gaps.
  • Keep an eye out for Improvised Bludgeon and/or Makeshift Barricade from Curio. This greatly improves Boa Constrictor's disruption.

Common Filler Items

  • Bear Claws
  • Beast Tooth
  • Double-Bladed Knife
  • Honey Jar
  • Hunter's Axe
  • Rope
  • Runed Amulet
  • Waterskin
  • Wildroot Amulet

Example Mid Game Additions

There are two common routes you can take when playing Self-Slow synergies: Boa Constrictor or Ammo combos. Both utilize the scaling from Chains.

Core Synergies

  • Boa Constrictor Charges insanely fast with enough Slow support and is the perfect host for Damage scaling. It also comes with a board-wide Slow trigger!
  • Tent completely solves Ammo for the Self-Slow archetype while also doubling as a source of Shield.
    • Shotgun pairs perfectly alongside it, becoming a fast Multicast-scaling threat.
    • Bear Trap punishes fast opposing boards and can deal a ton of Damage when continously Reloaded.
    • Heavy Crossbow comes with huge built-in Damage scaling. It's an option that doesn't rely on Chains, but is a bit slower comparatively.
  • Ghillie Suit is Slowed Targets in item form which easily solves Crit on its own. Additionally, its Damage prevention effect can occasionally come in clutch.
  • Hunter's Blind provides a solid source of Shielding that can scale well during longer fights.
  • Utility Belt fits very well if you can reliably Crit, offering Haste, Reload, Shield, and Rage generation. This can replace Tent under the right circumstances.
  • Bat and Fairies are both fast and flexible inclusions that provide additional Slow triggers.
    • If playing at least two Friends, Beast Call is a solid flex item for its Haste.

Tips & Tricks

  • Several items care about being Slowed, so it's important to carefully consider your positioning of adjacent triggers.
    • You may not be able to include everything at once, as many of the best sources of Self-Slow come later at Gold-tier.

End Game Build Breakdown

Core Synergies

  • Hunter's Boots provides Self-Slow triggers, Charge, and Crit Chance, all-in-one item. It's a core supporting item within the archetype.
  • Night Vision is the best way to offset all of the Self-Slows. It's a reliable Haste engine that can apply across the entire board.
  • Fogshroom grants a board-wide Charge when Enraged, while also fitting nicely as another Small Self-Slow piece.
  • Fairy Circle greatly accelerates the build with its passive Charge effect, and also offers a bit of sustain with its Healing.
  • Log Trap can be a solid inclusion in Boa Constrictor builds thanks to its fast Slow output and burst Damage.

Tips & Tricks

  • Restorative/Shielded Enchantments are preferred to help give the build more long-term (and scalable) sustain.
    • Avoid Radiant or you could brick your own build!
  • There's a case to be made for both Shortened Rage and Extended Rage, so be sure to evaluate your board before deciding.
