Overview

Mak has finally arrived in The Bazaar, bringing us a bunch of fresh new strategies and archetypes to explore.

Potions may have existed for a while now, but it's only now that we're able to see them created in a whole new way.

Reagents are a new type of item that can be brewed into Potions, often with the additional benefit of an enchantment.

This leads to some wild combinations, and we're only just beginning to scratch the surface.

Let's dive into Kripp's first ever run with Mak!

Core Combos and Synergies

Mak's Regenerative Recipe

Regeneration is a key mechanic to Mak, more so than any other Hero. While it previously existed with more of a minimal supporting effect, Mak has the ability to weaponize Regen into absurd power.

Doing so creates a powerful hybrid strategy that provides both a potent offense alongside reliable Regeneration. Outside of acquiring a rare skill such as Venomous Vitality or Moth to a Flame, this was nearly impossible for other Heroes.

Secret Formula

Secret Formula functions mostly as a passive supporting item that grants Burn and Poison to adjacent items. The amount given is equal to your Regeneration. With enough scaling, this converts to an obscene amount of Burn/Poison.

While it does slowly generate Regen throughout a fight, you'll need additional sources to really put it to good use.

Note that Kripp had a Turbo enchanted Secret Formula, but it isn't necessary for the build.

Sifting Pan

Sifting Pan offers players a way to permanently gain Regen outside of combat. By selling Reagents throughout your run you can stack up a pretty considerable amount.

This creates an immediate baseline of Regeneration for Secret Formula, and in turn means you'll begin the fight with a much higher Burn and Poison value on your items.

Win Conditions

The actual Burn and Poison items you use are less relevant than enabling enough Regen for Secret Formula. Ideally look for items with low Cooldowns that can act quickly, or offer additional effects for more utility.

In the case of this build Kripp utilized his starting enchanted item, the Toxic Smelling Salts, to apply insane amounts of Poison. Knowing that it triggers off every instance of Slow, he looked for additional items and/or enchantments that could support it.

How to Reroll Enchanted Items

Potion Distillery is an incredibly useful item to keep in your Stash. When you visit a Merchant, you can Transform a Small item into a random Potion.

The way Transform works mechanically is that it keeps your item's base rarity and enchantment. For example, if you have a Gold tier Restorative Energy Potion, transforming it would create another Small Gold item with the Restorative enchant (unless not applicable).

In the case of Potion Distillery, you're always Transforming the items into Potions. By finding your desired Reagent that creates the enchant you're looking for, you can continuously "reroll" it until you get what you want.

With this method, Kripp was able to keep rerolling until he got his Restorative Rainbow Potion. This is a really good strategy that allows you to acquire different items without actually purchasing or finding them.

Supportive Items and Skills

Ammo Enablers

It's extremely important to have a way to extend your Potions' capacities. Reload offers the most sustainable support throughout a fight, but it's also completely fine to roll with a more limited supply, so long as it's threatening enough to get the job done.

Gunner is the classic Ammo skill, but the new Stocked skill also serves the same purpose for Potions specifically. It's nice to have both options within Mak's pool to increase the overall consistency of finding one.

Vital Renewal

Vital Renewal is a pretty solid pickup assuming you have a reasonable quantity (or frequency) of Slow/Freeze/Poison/Burn effects to make it worth using. While the number may look low, it doesn't take much to stack up a considerable amount of Regen during combat.

Potent Potions

Mak has a wide variety of Potions you can choose from, but here are a few notable ones that stand out with this particular archetype.

Energy Potion is a popular classic for its board-wide Haste effect, and probably one of the true essentials you'll always want to find. Many combat encounters are determined by what can be referred to as the "Haste Difference".

Simply having the Haste advantage over the opponent is a huge deal, and the same can be said for Slows. This makes its Heavy enchant even more relevant, doubling its edge over enemies that can't match its presence.

This is further enhanced by Boiling Flask which grants Multicast to adjacent Potions and Reloads them. In Kripp's build it was placed between the Energy Potion and Rainbow Potion; a high value combo.

Extra Utility

The Regeneration Potion was best utilized for stacking Regeneration, allowing the Secret Formula some more room to scale during combat. The Fiery enchantment is a nice bonus given the build, but ultimately not important since the other items carry.

Invulnerability Potion provides a valuable and unique effect; immunity to Damage for two seconds. This can be a big deal against certain matchups, although there is a bit of luck when it comes to the timing of its prevention versus the enemy's offense.
