Kripp's Riceballer Pygmalien Build

Overview

Riceballer is a powerful payoff that turns a small investment into absurd amounts of Burn. It's hard to discount an item that can scale its own Multicast, so its success is no surprise.

As an archetype that requires stacking Value, it's not the most straightforward build to put together. However, with proper planning and efficient Stash management, anyone can make it happen.

Example Early Game Path

This build makes use of some common Burn and Heal components, meaning you have a few different routes you can take during the early game. The easiest path is likely a Matchbox start, but you could also opt for a Heal build using Golf Clubs and/or Weights.

Core Synergies

  • Matchbox is the quintessential Burn starter, especially if found as a starting enchanted item. Find any early scaling and it quickly takes off.
    • Premium Orange Piggles pairs excellently alongside it, if you're lucky to spawn one early (they do fall off past the mid game).
    • Premium Piggles can make other non-Weapon finds somewhat useful as well.
  • Ganjo is the most universal scaler and can slot pretty much anywhere in the first few days, since it benefits Damage, Heal, and Shield.
    • Bandages, Piggles Protectors, and Piggles Launcher are great targets to scale.
  • Golf Clubs can be solid, but you really need to hit at least a few Heal items from the get-go.
    • Weights is best used alongside Golf Clubs + Kukri, though it can temporarily work with a few other Small Weapons.

Tips & Tricks

  • Rewards Card is a generically useful Economy item that only occupies one slot.
    • It'll also come in handy later for targeted Value scaling, making it easier to enable Riceballer. Definitely worth upgrading when possible.
  • Pitchfork can be an excellent avenue for income, while also supporting the Value scaling game plan.
    • Do note that this occupies a ton of Stash space, meaning you'll have to opt out of other options, and forgo hoarding items for potential pivots.
  • Money Tree + Cash Register can create a huge amount of cash, but will also occupy a ton of space.
    • Best utilized if you're playing the Golf Clubs route, as you can actually include it on board to preserve room in your Stash.
    • Make sure you capitalize on Safes and Piggy Banks. When you can, save those coins until you upgrade Money Tree to Silver.
  • Always buy ATM if you can afford to. Unlike the rest, it's a low commitment buy/sell for Income.

Example Mid Game Additions

Core Synergies

  • Riceballer is the primary win condition, so look for additional ways to scale its Burn. Conflagration is a popular choice, and a huge power spike.
    • Throughout the run, make an effort to permanently scale the Value of items you expect to keep. Start with the obvious (Riceballer, Textiles, Sauna).
    • Eventually you'll want to hit the max Multicast threshold without needing to scale Value mid-combat.
    • Early on, take advantage of PenFT to enable the full Multicast after an activation or two.
  • Textiles sits next to Riceballer, allowing Heal triggers to Charge and accelerate it. Make sure Riceballer is the only viable adjacent target.
    • Sauna takes this to a whole new level, creating an infinite loop with Riceballer + Textiles as soon as it first goes off.
    • Magma Core is a handy slot-in to provide an on-start Charge trigger via Sauna + Textiles (visit Curio to find it).
  • Bandages is the fastest regular Heal item (once upgraded) to help kickstart the build.
  • Tea Set + Succulents can help bridge the Matchbox plan during the mid game, and even be used with Riceballer before the full combo is found.

Tips & Tricks

  • Rewards Card is your best friend, so be sure to plan your pathing to make the most of it.
    • Display Case and Ledger are reasonable alternatives, though they require more space and/or time.
  • Look to upgrade Riceballer as soon as possible. There's a considerable jump in Burn output even from Silver to Gold.
    • It's also well worth picking up flat Burn skills, or investing some Cinders into it when available.

End Game Build Breakdown

Tips & Tricks

  • A big strength of Riceballer builds is that all of the components can be found during the mid game. No Gold-tier or Large items are required.
  • Prioritize speed first and foremost. The build is fast enough to win simply by racing, although if the run goes late, you may want to consider a defensive enchant.
  • Aside from Riceballer and Bandages, upgrades aren't super important for much else. Feel free to opt for skills during level-up rewards.

Situational Variants

  • It's very possible to play a Riceballer build without the Sauna + Textiles combo.
    • When doing so, Cooldown Reduction becomes equally as important as startup time.
    • While it's a less common and more contextual setup, it does open up board space for a wider range of items.
    • Ex. Kripp made great use of Gramophone + Shadowed Cloak, while wearing a Belt for extra survivability.
