Although Vanessa is usually seen as the aggro hero, she's capable of getting 10 wins without dealing any damage!
With her package of Aquatic items, she can build toward outlasting her opponents through battles of attrition.
It's a great angle if you open up with the likes of Seashell, Coral, or Ambergris.
This guide will cover the major components of the build, but be sure to also watch Rarran's video guide to the right to see every decision made!

Core Combos and Synergies
Defense + Attrition Engine
With any attrition build, your goal is going to be building up a defense that outscales the Damage engines of your enemies.
To do this, you need items that can cast often and scale throughout a fight. You'll also need a mix of Heal and Shielding to keep you protected against Poison (gets countered by Heal/Health stacking) and Burn (countered by Shield stacking) comps.
For this build, Rarran used the Aquatic defense package powered by Shipwreck's Multicast ability.
Here's how it works:
Shipwreck causes Aquatic items to Multicast
Seashell triggers on Shield Aquatic cast
Turtle Shell triggers Shield on non-Weapon cast and scales Shielding
Seaweed triggers on Aquatic cast and scales Healing
In combination, this all works together to give the build a TON of defenses that continue to grow the longer a fight goes.
Note: Shipwreck is now only found at the Diamond rarity.
Shipwreck (Aquatic Multicast)
Seashell (Shields on Aquatic casts)
Turtle Shell (scales Shielding)
Seaweed (Heals on Aquatic and scales)
Harpoon
The Harpoon is another Core important of the build as it can greatly reduce your enemy's DPS potential.
You can increase its Ammo capacity at Curio, from Loot (you get a +2 bonus for having a Friend), and the following PvE encounters:
Level 5 - Preening Duelist (700 HP)
Level 5 - Scount Trooper (750 HP)
Level 6 - Hakurvian Rocket Trooper (1000HP)
Supportive Items and Skills
Stall, Speed, and Scaling
To support your main engine's win condition, you're going to want to look for ways to disrupt your enemies with CC (with Freeze or Slow), help speed up your casting or further accelerate your scaling.
There are a lot of options that are interchangeable for these goals, but here are some examples that Rarran used:
Clamera (Slows + Aquatic Triggers)
Bullet Time (Slows on Harpoon cast)
Barnacle Crusted (Speeds up Aquatic casts)
Keen Eye (Grants your Shields and Heals Crit potential)
Gumballs
Gumballs can be an attractive choice in defensive builds because they can scale your win condition with more Max Health, Crit%, and Shields. You will whiff on some Red Gumballs though since you don't have any Weapons.
Enchantments
Throughout his run, Rarran was able to find Turbo Shipwreck, Shielded Seaweed, and Radiant Sea Shell.
It's hard to control when you can get Enchantments (outside of level 16 and first death) and which ones you get, but it's important to note that these can have huge impacts on your success.
When in doubt, always look to Enchant your most impactful items that have the most scaling potential.
