Freeze Fundamentals
While Freeze is a useful form of disruption in general, the goal of this strategy is to shut down the opponent completely. By doing so you can focus less on offense, because when there's no threat from the other side the DPS really doesn't matter.
The extent of offense you can get away with will vary depending on your setup, and due to Mak's random nature of utilizing Transforms, it's important to lean into the direction that will best serve the pieces you're able to find.
Freeze builds generally take time to assemble, as just a couple pieces won't amount to much. The best way to build into them is by picking up components along the way while still running another setup. Then once enough parts are in line, you can go all in. I'd recommend Small Freeze essentials before the win conditions.
Sapphire + Freeze Potions
Sapphire is by far the most important piece of the build. Turning a one second duration into two is a massive difference, especially when applied to multiple items and targets as the effects just compound with each other.
Frost Potion takes massive advantage of
Sapphire, and if obtained or upgraded to a higher tier it can Freeze multiple items at a time.
Rainbow Potion is another solid choice, although the former two are the greatest priority.
By utilizing Transforms it's very possible to acquire multiples of these in a single run.
Potion Distillery and
Catalyst helps increase the odds, allowing you to reroll other items to hopefully acquire even more Freeze.
Frost Potion is generally easier to acquire in multiples since
Potion Distillery only creates other Potions, but with the changes to
Catalyst it's a lot easier to Transform multiple times without forcing the item to be a Potion. If you manage to get your hands on another
Sapphire, you're almost certain to succeed.
Frozen Flame + Black Ice
Frozen Flame offers fantastic Burn scaling alongside a Freeze setup, but what truly makes it strong is its built-in
Petrifying Gaze effect. At Diamond tier this is a one-sided, board-wide, three second Freeze. That's an absurd amount of disruption, and often enough time for the Burn to seal the deal.
This is generally an easier piece to work with since it has an inherent failsafe, plus Burn ticks faster than Poison. However, it is possible to setup a board with multiples of Small Freeze items and utilize
Black Ice as the sole source of offense.
Boiling Flask is fantastic with this setup and 2x
Frost Potions.
As a rule of thumb, if you can threaten an entire 100% lockdown the moment your Freezes go off and chain together,
Frozen Flame isn't necessary. If you can't, then
Frozen Flame is key since it has powerful protection and a faster output.
Of course both can be utilized together as well to good success. Kripp's Toxic
Black Ice certainly stacked up some crazy Poison alongside the board-wize Freeze trigger from
Frozen Flame.
Atmospheric Sampler Variant
Atmospheric Sampler enables some absolutely ridiculous builds, allowing Enchanted (and/or Flying) items to spam Charge each other, often looping infinitely. This makes for a very easy splash into an existing build, ultimately accelerating it beyond its normal capabilities.
Soulstone fits well as a single slot Freeze item since
Atmospheric Sampler does occupy a Medium space. What makes it even better is its multi-targeting Freeze, scaling up to three targets at Diamond. Combined with
Sapphire and constant Charges, you can imagine how quickly it gets out of hand.
Wild Quillback +
Soul Ring aren't specifically necessary, but they do ramp up the clock which can be helpful against Health-stacking builds. The continuous Charge loops make it very easy to stack Regen, eventually converting into a much larger dose of Poison.
