Overview

Burn Dooley is a very common archetype that's generally been a staple ever since Closed Beta. Dooley's ability to accelerate and hastily churn the board makes it a very potent strategy.

Most of the times it's off the back of Ignition Core, however, there's another item that often goes overshadowed among the rest... Flamethrower.

In fact, other Heroes like Pyg and Vanessa may even utilize Flamethrower just as much (if not more), simply because they are better built for scaling Weapons.

Though with the buffs to Weaponized Core, we've got a pretty good reason to give Flamethrower Dooley the attention it deserves!

Core Combos and Synergies

Flamethrower

Flamethrower is one of the best payoffs for Damage scaling. With just a bit of help its output goes through the roof, often becoming the sole carry of a build. It really doesn't take much to get it to respectable levels, especially when you have the ability to apply an offensive enchantment to it.

Unlike other Burn builds which focus on scaling Burn, this build is all about scaling Damage. Getting a 1:1 ratio of Damage to Burn is far superior than improving Burn directly, and once upgrade to Diamond you get to double up that value.

The only real drawback to Flamethrower is its rarity. As a Gold tier item you can't really plan for it, and since Dooley isn't always focused on Weapon Damage it can be tricky to make the most of it when it's found. However, having Weaponized Core certainly helps.

Weaponized Core

Weaponized Core is very strong in the early game, offering strong initial Damage scaling. It's essentially Dooley's version of Sharkclaws, at least for any item that can be affordably placed to its right. Just find the fastest Weapons you can and go to town.

As for later on, the Damage scaling isn't often enough to go the distance, at least not with a board of mediocre Weapons. This is where Flamethrower comes in. Since every bit of added Damage has such a big impact, you can forgo all other Weapons and let Weaponized Core put everything solely into Flamethrower.

The Restorative enchant helped give the build a bit more sustain, especially considering the Core still scales itself with each use. Not mandatory, but a nice bonus.

Fiber Optics

Fiber Optics is a Dooley superstar for its outstanding Charge capabilities. Put your fastest item on the left and target item on the right, then watch the magic happen. This helps kick Flamethrower into gear ASAP and makes it much easier to go off consecutively, stacking up the Burn tremendously.

Kripp happened to have a Shiny Fiber Optics which doubled its Charge amount. While an absurdly lucky find, it's definitely strong enough to work without it.

Soldering Gun + Chris Army Knife

Soldering Gun + Chris Army Knife is a staple pair that can work in Burn builds, or simply as an efficient pair of Core Chargers. The Multicast works particularly well alongside Fiber Optics, setting off the Flamethrower while still adding some of its own Burn (also improved by Fiery).

Supportive Items and Skills

Small Supporters

First Aiden and Nitro are both fast items that provide Haste/Charge respectively. Their main purpose is just to help activate the Core as quick as possible, while also offering utility to accelerate the rest of the board. Cool LEDs gives the build a reliable Slow to stall out the opponent while the Flamethrower Burns them to the ground.

Kripp had a Heavy First Aiden which added additional Slows, and the Cool LEDs was Obsidian to add synergy with Firepower. Again, more nice-to-haves, but not essential.

Additional Accelerators

Uzi is one of the most reliable Core-Chargers in the game thanks to its two-second Cooldown. Fights are often fast enough to where you don't need maximum Ammo, although be sure to upgrade it when possible.

GPU and Capacitor are decent extras that Haste/Charge the build. Overall, just look for the fastest Small items available, then upgrade as you find better utility. Battery is excellent for this, giving an immediate boost instead of long-term value. Considering Flamethrower is the main carry, it's well worth it.

Firepower

Firepower is one of the strongest skills for this build, if not the strongest. This Dooley-exclusive skill allows any Core to scale adjacent Weapons whenever used. Given how fast and easy Cores can Charge, this becomes yet another Weaponized Core-like effect and is a premium in-combat form of Damage scaling.

With this skill it's also possible to make use of other Cores, allowing them to fill the role that Weaponized Core would provide. Though of course, having both makes the scaling all the sweeter.

Overclocked

Overclocked is a great source of Cooldown reduction for the Weaponized Core, and since Nitro is included in the build it also gets twice the benefit. Cooldown reduction is generally rare or comes at a premium, making this a phenomenal pickup anytime you know you'll be using the Core.

Burning Shield

Burning Shield provides a really nice safety net when combined with Flamethrower. The explosive nature of this build makes it even better compared to other Burn setups (which often stack at a slower rate).
