Overview

Kripparian kicked off the first day of The Bazaar's Closed Beta with an insane llama that could swing for 13k Damage.

At the time it was more of a situational build, but with the restructuring and improvement of level-up rewards, it's become a lot more consistent.

This build archetype uses Pygmalien's economic power to feed a stacking beast that can grow into an absolute monster.

Like any other build that puts its focus into a single item, it can be susceptible to trouble against Freeze and Slow builds. However, often all it takes is one big swing to win!

Core Combos and Synergies

Compared to other builds that may combo 2-3 necessary items, The Feed The Beast archetype focuses on building around just one item and maximizing its stacks.

The Beast

In this specific build guide, we'll be building around Beast of Burden which scales off any item bought. The Dog can also provide a similar win condition, but its a bit more limited since it only scales off of selling small items.

Overall the tradeoff of being Large makes Beast of Burden more worth it due to its flexibility.

Alternatively, you can also take a similar approach with Regal Blade which scales with sold Weapons.

Since this is a single weapon build, items and skills that synergize with that like Spices work very well.

Economic Engine

The other thing that is absolutely necessary for this build is having a strong economy to fund your beast's stacks and scaling.

For the build to work, you'll need to get to the point where you can go to most shops and buy most items (including rerolls).

Invest in Long Term Income

Early on in your run, you're going to want to look for opportunities to increase your daily Income (pretty standard with most Pygmalien builds).

It's also worth looking for items that will help you get more bang for your buck, such as Rewards Card, Business Card, or Cash Register.

Remember that out of combat effects can work from your Stash, so there's no need to have them on your active board.

Be mindful with items like Cash Register. You need to keep two open Stash spaces by the end of the day to make sure your Spare Change doesn't go to waste. Proper inventory management is a key part of Pyg's game plan. You can only afford to carry so many Economy items, so keep whatever bests suits you at the time.

Supportive Items and Skills

Since your whole strategy is built around ramping up your Beast of Burden with your Economy, you need to make sure that it's actually able to swing.

The best way to do that is by scaling your defenses and finding ways to let your Beast of Burden swing faster.

Scale Your Tankiness

Whether it's by Shielding, Healing, Health stacking, or all of the above you need a way to survive long enough to strike back.

Pygmalien has a ton of these items, but one of the stand outs is the Lemonade Stand.

Since you're already buying and selling items, Lemonade Stand lets you double dip by scaling your Max Health when you sell Small items.

Another good option is the Belt, which greatly improves your Max Health - very potent if you've already scaled a decent amount.

Decrease Your Cast Time

The other angle your supportive items should focus on is lowering the Cooldown of your Beast of Burden - the faster the better.

This is because your biggest threats are the builds that can Freeze, Slow, or rush you down.

If you can get one swing off, you should be able to win your matchup since a lot of builds won't be able to survive your scaled damage.

These are options like Phonograph and Stained Glass Window which offer significant Cooldown reduction.

You can also consider options that offer Charge and Haste, though it's up to you and what you find during your run.

Regarding Skills

Skills aren't as important compared to other builds since most of your gold is going to item stacks, but Big Guns is a really good one to look for if you're playing Beast of Burden .

If taking skills is your best option at choice points, look for ones that help your Economy or survivability.

Luxury Tents Variant

The restructuring of level-up rewards has allowed many new powerful strategies to emerge, many of which only exist due to specific enchantments. While these technically existed in the past, they were never at the forefront since enchants came at a much later time.

Luxury Tents is an item that grants +1 Multicast to all your Heal items. By enchanting an item with Restorative, this effectively turns it into a Heal item, giving it immediate synergy with Luxury Tents.

Being able to give Multicast to an item of your choosing is ridiculously strong, and as you can obviously put together, works incredibly well with Beast of Burden.

On top of all that, Luxury Tents gives the build a "cheat death", allowing it a free (partial Health) revive. Alongside Max Health scaling this adds a ton of survivability and gives you a huge edge against other one-shot builds.

Even if the enemy is faster, you're guaranteed to survive their one big hit while you clobber them with yours. As for other matchups, an extra chunk of Health can make all the difference in who wins the fight.

Tips and Tricks

  • Play slow! This build really depends on maximizing your value and even a few misplays can be the difference.
  • Target the Curio vendor since he offers a lot of cheap items that you can buy and also get effects from when you sell them.

  • If it's mid game and you aren't killing your enemies in 1-2 hits, it's likely time to pivot to a different strategy. If your Economy income is at a good level, you should have some flexibility.
