Overview

Eternal Torch is among the handful of Mak's unique Quest items, and just like the rest, offers a powerful payoff to those who can complete its requirements.

It's a relatively fast Burn item with some tremendous scaling potential, to the point where it can single-handedly carry your run in some cases.

However, this Quest item can occasionally be a challenge to unlock, so let's dive into some strategies to hopefully help you pull it off!

Core Combos and Synergies

Eternal Torch

Purchasing Burn items is the first step to enabling Eternal Torch as it will unlock the ability to scale it to absurd heights. There's quite a number of accessible Burn items that can even be found at Bronze-tier, making it very possible to achieve during the early game.

However, as with all Quest items, shop RNG plays a pretty big role. It often depends on which vendors are actually available, and once potential prospects are found, you'll want to have enough gold to be able to readily Reroll for Burn items.

After completing all of your shopping, Eternal Torch becomes a pretty respectable threat, so much so that "Step 2" can often be the biggest obstacle. You see, in order to unlock its Multicast, you'll need to scale up its Burn to 75+ in combat. While the rate of Burn scaling is pretty efficient, the struggles lies with the reality that you'll often defeat the opponent before reaching 75.

The best case scenario is that you encounter an opponent with solid defenses, allowing them to survive long enough so you can scale to 75. However, a decent strategy that's less reliant on RNG would be utilizing a Fiery enchanted item that creates more (or faster) Burn triggers than the usual Burn items.

Kripp made great use of a Fiery Smelling Salts, creating several small Burn amounts which scales Eternal Torch without overwhelming the enemy with Burn. This is quite achievable either with a Fiery enchanted starting item, or by Transforming Sulphur.

Once the Eternal Torch has been fully completed, it's often a big enough powerhouse on its own to easily carry you throughout the mid game. It's also fast enough to where it can scale itself without need for much (or any) additional Burn support, allowing you to build extremely flexibly into the late game.

Pendulum

Pendulum is a Mak staple for its unmatchable Charging speeds. It works phenomenally with Mak's Quest items since the Multicast fuels an absurd amount of triggers. It's surely one of the most effective scaling loops during the late game, but be sure to upgrade it to Diamond for the increased Charging power.

Life Conduit + Rapid Injection System

Life Conduit is a great supporting item alongside Eternal Torch as it can build up incredible amounts of Regen. Seeing as Burn is a damage-over-time effect, having large passive recovery will greatly improve your odds of survival. Kripp's Life Conduit had a Shielded enchantment for even better defenses.

Rapid Injection System helps fuel its Regen scaling with little effort, but you can also utilize Wild Quillback to the same effect (and in some cases, slightly better).

Supportive Items and Skills

Misc. Supporters

As stated above, Eternal Torch builds have a lot of flexibility with what they include. In Kripp's run, Ice Luge was utilized to greatly reduce Eternal Torch's Cooldown and speed up the Pendulum loop. Amber didn't have much application, but did provide Slow triggers to enable some useful skills.

Creeping Chill

Creeping Chill, along with most other Freeze skills, is always a welcome inclusion in any build. Having any form of disruption can be a make or break difference in a fight, especially during the late game. Given that the build does need a bit of time to scale, it's worth making it a priority to pick up at least some interaction.

Hardly Workin'

Hardly Workin' paired well with Amber to apply more Charge triggers to Life Conduit. This helped kickstart the scaling, specifically because there were no other Regen items that could be targeted. While these types of synergies are situational, it's a great example of how you can accelerate your build in the late game with just a simple item/skill interaction.
