Kripp's Durian Jules Build

Overview

Durian is latest iteration of the Shield Damage archetype. It plays the tried and true strategy that converts large Shield into huge one-shot bursts, and it's much faster than its predecessors.

Its faster speed makes it easy to assemble from the start, but it won't quite cap out at the same heights that we're used to. So while it certainly can get 10 wins, be open to pivoting when things don't pan out.

Example Early Game Path

Note: Jules builds have extremely contextual positioning due to the RNG placement of the Stoves and Coolers. Your mileage may vary.

Core Synergies

  • Durian converts Shield into huge Damage. Ideally, you're looking to pair it with a large base Shield item, or a fast scaling setup.
    • Note: It won't be playable until you reach level 3 and unlock the first Cooler socket.
  • Apron is the most common early game Shield route for Durian. Prioritize buying/selling Small Bronze Food to scale it cheaply.
  • Banu Leaves is great alongside Shield skills or scaling items (those come later). As long as you have a Food setup, it's incredibly fast.
    • Butter provides a bit of Haste support, but is particularly useful just as a Multicast Food.
  • Chef Hat can be a solid Shield item in the first few days, but should be quickly replaced once better options are found.

Tips & Tricks

  • Pasta Maker is one of Jules' few Economy items, so it can be worth picking up.
  • Candy Mail can be used to scale Banu Leaves, or even better, Cheese Wheel (if found early).
    • Upgrading it from Bronze to Silver will refill its Ammo, so try to use as much as you can without destroying it.
  • Aside from the first Cooler socket, the others are less important, so feel free to use them as you see fit.

Common Filler Items

  • Baked Potato
  • Basket
  • Birthday Cake
  • Black Pepper

Example Mid Game Additions

Core Synergies

  • Laurel's Fortress may replace and become your primary Shield item depending on your setup. You'll want to have five Multicast or better.
    • This will likely replace Apron, unless you managed upgrade and scale it far above average.
  • Cheese Wheel can be very strong, but requires some base Shield (likely from skills) and an efficient way to accelerate it.
    • Meat Tenderizer is one of the best ways in the late game, but requires upgrades to be worth it.
  • Honeycomb and Saffron are reasonable scaling items during the mid game, but may fall off later unless you can loop them quickly.
  • Universal Sauce increases the build's ceiling by eventually scaling to a guaranteed Crit.
    • Zarlic pairs well alongside it and can act as another fast Charging Food item.
    • Improvised Protection is the best scaling to help enable items like Banu Leaves.
  • Oven Mitts provides great Haste support as long as you can position a fast item on your Stove(s).
    • Also goes alongside the Improvised Protection game plan.

Tips & Tricks

  • Chocolate Coin is a sweet source of income, while also providing a (potentially) large Crit boost to your item of choice.
  • Fortune Cookie is always worth it if you have time to fulfill its Quest.
  • If you've taken a number of early losses, consider pivoting away from the Durian build entirely. Large Gold items are your best bet.

End Game Build Breakdown

Core Synergies

  • Cheese Wheel + Meat Tenderizer has the highest peak IF they're upgraded. Diamond Meat Tenderizer is very important.
    • If possible, have a way to Charge or accelerate Meat Tenderizer.
  • Laurel's Fortress with some Shield scaling can still be a serviceable option, but can fall off in the later days.
  • Apron could be used IF stacked really high, but this is rather unlikely.
  • Banu Leaves + Improvised Protection spam is a well-rounded choice, as long as you have a fast enough Charge/Crit engine.

Tips & Tricks

  • Skills and enchantments will be a key factor in the build's longevity.
  • The exact setups vary quite a bit, but as a rule of thumb, make speed a high priority.
