Overview

Dooley's new Expansion is exploding into the meta now that more players have finally got their hands on it. The Bug infestation has completely taken over as the clear dominant force within Dooley's item pool.

It's a fun build-around archetype, and in its current form it's thriving like no other. You can often mix these Bugs with several other items to varying success, but paired with Power Drill it's insane.

At the time of writing this, the Bugs are by far above and beyond every other Dooley archetype, so much so that you should expect it to be nerfed during the next patch.

Core Combos and Synergies

The Bug Squad

The five Bugs are all extremely efficient due to their innate Charging capabilities. Chaining items together has always been Dooley's specialty, and with how well the Bugs work they put the Core to shame. When assembled together by default they naturally fit to proc each others' Charge requirements.

However, once you add in some enchantments it gets even crazier, especially when you can double-proc GRN-W4SP, BLK-SP1D3R, or RED-F1R3FLY. Additionally, placing an enchanted item on the other side of BLU-B33TL3 or YLW-M4NT1S greatly increases their output to match or exceed the inner Bugs.

Kripp's Fiery Power Drill is the perfect example of this, helping to turbo Charge the YLW-M4NT1S and spam Haste across the entire board.

The Bug Squad has a pretty solid Burn/Poison output and can get even stronger with enough supporting skills. Although the best bet is to generally find a more threatening item that can take full advantage of the insanely fast procs.

Power Drill

Power Drill is a natural fit among the Bug Squad since every single one contributes to Charging it. With these available in Dooley's item pool it's so much easier to enable a fast enough Power Drill without the need to rely on enchantments.

A Toxic or Fiery enchant is fantastic to fit perfectly alongside BLU-B33TL3 or YLW-M4NT1S, so be sure to take advantage of it when offered. Power Drill may as well be the honorary sixth Bug, because nowadays when you see one, odds are you'll see the others.

Robotic Factory

Robotic Factory is the perfect pillar to tie the entire build together. Doubling up the entire Bug Squad is completely insane and takes this build to a whole new level. As a build with only one single Freeze item and a 0.5 second duration, BLU-B33TL3 can actually shut down multiples items simultaneously.

The power level is absurd. While Robotic Factory is clearly the best choice, there are still other replacement-level alternatives that more than hold their own. It's a big part of why the archetype is so good, because in the event you can't find one item, another powerful option is likely around the corner.

Powerful Alternatives

Bill Dozer is the closest stand-in for Robotic Factory thanks to its excellent flat Cooldown reduction effect. It also has great scaling and can function as a secondary Damage source alongside (or instead of) Power Drill depending on the rest of your setup.

Do keep in mind that Bill Dozer really can't remain at Silver tier, so if you've already passed the level 7 upgrade reward, it's best to only buy it at Gold/Diamond.

Dooltron is a slower but more defensive alternative. While it doesn't grant any Multicast or Cooldown reduction, it does provide a great source of Shield and can pack a huge punch when it goes off.

Supportive Items and Skills

Supportive Stand-ins

Among the many great alternative win conditions, there are also multiple supporting pieces that can fill in missing gaps. After all, collecting all five of the Bug Squad isn't always easy, so it's important to know what you can look out for in the meantime.

First Aiden is one of the easiest common slot-ins and fits nicely next to RED-F1R3FLY, but if you want even faster triggers you can use Bomb Squad (though it won't Haste your board). Metronome is always a standout Haste item that gets especially crazy with the right enchantment.

DJ Rob0t may no longer be the instant-win carry it once was, but it's still an excellent source of board-wide Haste and triggers crazy fast with all the Bugs. It fits well with Bill Dozer and Dooltron in the event you're not playing a Power Drill variant.

Kripp had a Shiny Multitool in another run, acting as an incredible supporting piece between two RED-F1R3FLYs. This is another example of how you can capitalize on various items, as long as they fulfill the right effect trigger.

Dragon Heart + Solar Farm

If you happen to be lucky enough to stumble upon a Dragon Heart, the power it offers is enough where RED-F1R3FLY can be your sole win condtion. Its Burn scaling is absurd, and when used alongside RED-F1R3FLY (one of the fastest Burn items) it takes it to a whole new level.

Solar Farm fits nicely here to support the overall speed of the build, and since RED-F1R3FLY is the carry, the other usual items aren't necessary. While it's not a common setup, it's a good example of how to capitalize on a fortunate drop, as it doesn't actually require much to pivot thanks to the Bugs' inherent synergy.

Hot Spot / Grease Fire

Hot Spot and Grease Fire fulfill the same role; spam a Burn trigger every time Power Drill is used. Grease Fire is slightly better since it works with every Tool and doesn't require specific positioning, but ultimately they're both here to enable the Drill.

Note that with the abundance of triggers you absolutely do not need both of these. It's great during the earlier part of the game when you don't have an infinite Power Drill loop, but eventually becomes irrelevant once you meet that threshold.

Reaching the Summit

Reaching the Summit is a great skill for scaling Crit Chance during combat. With how fast BLU-B33TL3 triggers it doesn't take long to get a respectable amount across the entire board. Not many builds can take advantage of this because spamming Freeze is quite rare, but it's a solid choice here.

Temporal Strike

Temporal Strike is an amazing source of Cooldown reduction in builds that can ensure an enemy item is always Slowed. With BLK-SP1D3R it's almost impossible for this not to be the case, making it a great benefit for Power Drill.

While it's definitely a standout skill with the right setup, just remember that you won't be able to combine the likes of Power Drill, Bill Dozer, and/or Dooltron as it has a one-Weapon requirement.

Re-Tooled

Re-Tooled is one of the strongest skills in the game alongside Power Drill, doubling its output and often Charging itself (when enchanted) thanks to its Multicast. It adds a huge power spike to the build's offense and gets even better when combined with skills that count individual triggers.
