Overview

Beast of Burden has been through many iterations throughout The Bazaar's history, ranging from a slow but powerful one-shot machine to a Multihitting menace.

Of them all, it appears that we've finally landed on the most balanced iteration, while still offering a very unique build path to spice up your run.

Be sure to check out Kripp's run where he has a clean 10-0 sweep, even while including a completely useless item on board!

Core Combos and Synergies

Stash Management

Beast of Burden + Cargo Shorts creates a very interesting dynamic that plays much differently from other Pyg builds. While Pyg is notorious for constantly buying and selling items to scale Value, this combo incentivizes holding onto a wide variety of items in your Stash.

This means you usually have to forgo Economy items that require ample board space, while also occasionally skipping events or drops if your Stash doesn't have any room to spare. However in exchange, you can create a Multicasting monster!

Pay close attention to every item among vendors, especially if you aren't well versed with the entire pool. The goal is to collect as many unique tags while utilizing the least amount of space. Small items with multiple relevant tags are a great find, and out-of-class items can often provide tags Pyg normally can't access.

Kripp's Stash Explained

The Loupe and Signet Ring provided the Tool and Apparel tags while helping fuel the Economy, but Monocle is a great alternative to save board space. Model Ship provides Aquatic, Vehicle, and Toy, with the former two being tags that are pretty hard to come by for Pyg.

The Upgrade Hammer fulfilled the Loot tag while Truffles provided Food. Unfortunately this is one case where the removal of Truffles from Loot actually is a slight nerf, but overall not a big deal. Then finally, the ATM grants the Property and Tech tags, with the former being particularly important for the build.

Note that Kripp made a silly mistake right at the end, initially placing a Ritual Dagger on board before realizing it had anti-synergy with Spices. Putting the Business Card on the board was essentially just destroy fodder, since he didn't have anything else at that point, and it didn't matter!

Beast of Burden

Beyond playing the minigame of maximizing your Multicast, you'll want to look for some ways to scale Beast of Burden's Damage. Given its very long Cooldown, it's also important to find ways to accelerate it, or add sustain to ensure you can survive when it goes off.

Kripp had a Restorative Beast of Burden which is a great form of sustain. Since every Multicast hit actually takes time to deal Damage, that Healing can be a huge help to ensure you survive long enough for each strike to go off.

VIP Pass

VIP Pass is one of the best supporting items for the build, and one of the ways to really take Beast of Burden to the next level. As long as you have a Property in your Stash you can put VIP Pass adjacent to the Beast and watch both items stack Value like crazy.

On top of becoming an absurd source of Income (in the case you need to sell and pivot), it also functions as a decent source of Haste. Given that Pyg's Haste options are extremely limited, this is a huge help. Be sure to prioritize Stashing a Property ASAP.

Snow Globe

Snow Globe takes advantage of the two "Properties", allowing it to fit as a great form of disruption. Snow Globe is often limited to very specific builds, but thanks to the Cargo Shorts mechanic it works great here.

One additional benefit of the build is that upgrading items isn't as essential as others. Sure, scaling Beast of Burden's Damage is great, but skills often do a better job since its base stats don't change much. This allows the freedom to prioritize Snow Globe which gets significantly better at higher tiers.

Supportive Items and Skills

Spices

Spices offers a great amount of Damage scaling for the single slot it requires. One activation will already double Beast of Burden's Damage, but it can get even better if you get extra Ammo via Gunpowder.

Just be sure to pay attention to your supporting items, as Spices doesn't work great if you decide to include other Weapons with low base Damage.

Tall Buildings

Tall Buildings is a fantastic skill for this build, turning Beast of Burden, Cargo Shorts, and Snow Globe into Haste machines. With all the Multicast triggers it's easy to get permanent Haste uptime, which is definitely a luxury for most Pyg builds.

Defense Grid

Defense Grid is a great safety net that helps give the build some more staying power. Since the build has a slow startup, any form of extra defense is a welcome inclusion, and Pyg's natural Max Health means it'll almost always provide a solid amount of Shield.

Damage Skills

While Kripp didn't find many Damage skills in his run (mainly because it ended so fast), there's plenty of great options to look out for. Any base Damage improvements are always solid, but if you want to take Beast of Burden to the next level, Boar Market and Reinforced Steel are phenomenal pickups.

Boar Market takes advantage of all the Value scaling from VIP Pass, converting it to crazy Damage levels. Reinforced Steel gives incredibe in-combat scaling power since the Beast of Burden can trigger its effect with every individual Multicast attack!

Juggler Variant

Juggler is an insane highroll skill on a Beast of Burden build. As shown by the above board, you can simply jam a bunch of Small items to help spam Charge Beast of Burden. Most of these are replaceable with better faster alternatives, but PenFT is solid thanks to its two second Cooldown.

Keychain Variant

Keychain is an incredible piece that greatly accelerates a Beast of Burden build, IF you have the right setup. You see, in order to make this work, you need to have a Property on board, and NOT in your Stash. This is because you don't want the Cargo Shorts to become a Property. If it does, the Keychain has a 50% chance to trigger Cargo Shorts instead of Beast of Burden.

For similar reasons, if you happen to get the Quality over Quantity skill, avoid including a Weapon in your Stash. While Cargo Shorts doesn't actually function as a Weapon, having the tag is enough to prevent the skill from working.

Lastly, if you're ever lucky enough to find a Pearl, it offers incredibly powerful synergy with 28 Hour Fitness. This is because Beast of Burden counts as an Aquatic item, allowing its huge Multicast to spam Charge Pearl repeatedly (thus scaling Damage via 28 Hour Fitness).
