Kripp's Augmented Weaponry Vanessa Build

Overview

After the 0.1.3 patch, most if not all of Vanessa’s main Weapons got nerfed very hard, and the compensation was a few buffs to specific Weapon related Skills.

One of them is Augmented Weaponry, a bronze-tier Skill you can drop from the PvE Tent City Mayor event if he appears on Day 2.

In today’s build, Kripp takes full advantage of this build defining skill with a set of weapons that you would not see together in a Vanessa board before the patch.

Core Items

Knife Set + Throwing Knife

The Knives are a highly synergistic pair now that their Cooldown was reduced and their ‘on use’ effect triggers changed into Charge effects. Since Throwing Knives's internal cooldown bug was fixed, it’s much faster to have it Charge then have it use itself on trigger since there’s a smaller limit to how fast it triggers, and the same goes for Knife Set .

Double Barrel

While Double Barrel's nerf to base damage is big and noticeable, Augmented Weaponry easily fixes it and puts the item back on pre-nerf power - or even higher. Note that Kripp’s Double Barrel is enchanted with Deadly, but it’s not exactly needed if you can get its Crit Chance high enough through other means.

Trebuchet

It’s still weird to see Trebuchet on Weapon setups, but its new Charge passive on weapon use is extremely strong, especially with fast using items like Throwing Knives and Knife Set . Kripp’s Trebuchet was sadly on Bronze tier, and the Skill carried its damage numbers, but it would easily hit around 500 damage if it got upgraded. The Restorative enchantment is not needed for the build to work, but added a nice bit of survivability to the build.

Cutlass

Cutlass's buff actually made the Weapon pretty strong. Without having to invest a lot of stuff to get its damage numbers up and random Charges from Alacrity and Flurry of Blows, just one cast of a 300 damage Cutlass can crit for nearly 2000 flat burst damage.

Core Skills

Augmented Weaponry

The true reason to play weapons on Vanessa in the current patch. Alongside Skills like Lifting, Augmented Weaponry can take over the game as it is now an aura Skill that affects the whole board instead of just one item.

Since this Skill functions as an aura now allows you to pivot from early game Weapons into much better ones found later on in the run while not losing any of the scaling.

The main advantage of this skill is how early you get a hold of it. The Tent City Mayor PvE fight can only occur on Day 2 in a run and the skill is much better than silver Lifting, which is often found only a couple days later when it’s already kinda late to get a good build going due to the heavy economy demand.

Due to any small items will work with Augmented Weaponry, there are a lot of free events that will become high priority and enable good economy to buy every single small Item from vendors throughout the run.

Chocolate Bar, Gumballs, Spare Change, anything goes with this. There’s also a very high synergy between this build and Cove, and you should try to get your hands on one as early as possible.

Alacrity + Flurry of Blows

Once you get your hands on Augmented Weaponry, there’s no need to dig for Skills until Day 7, when Gold tier Skills become normal to appear. Ideally, you want to pick up skills that scale well with Weapons and Critical Strikes.

Alacrity and Flurry of Blows's Charge will help increase the upfront burst damage dealt to enemies before most defenses like Shields and Heals start activating. This is because thematically, Weapons will usually get outscaled so you want as much damage as possible as early as possible so your opponent can’t Freeze or outsustain your DPS.

Supportive Skills

Flashy Reload

Flashy Reload is another great skill if you are using any combination of Ammo items so they can cycle their Ammo between one another. You can pick it up from C4 (Ammo Skills Vendor), regular Skill vendors or drop it from the Harkuvian Rocket Trooper PvE encounter on Day 5.

Haste + Crowd Control

Since none of Kripp’s weapons had Haste effect, the only way to activate Quick Freeze was from a Hasting Skill and he had just that in Captain's Charge and Lefty Loosey. Stunning Strike is another one of Weapons’ few ways of crowd control and a must pickup since it’s so hard to come across Freeze effects with this style of build.
