Overview

In this guide you'll learn a step by step process for crafting a pure Energy Shield Body Armour for use with Chaos Inoculation, and it will end up looking something like the item shown below.

Guide

Step 1: Base & T1 Modifier

  • Base: Vile Robe
  • Recommended Item Level: 81+
  • Required Currency: Perfect Orb(s) of Transmutation & Perfect Orb(s) of Augmentation, or purchase base with existing modifier

In SSF you'll need to acquire several Vile Robe bases to use Perfect Orbs of Transmutation and Perfect Orbs of Augmentation on. It's therefore recommended to set up your item filter to highlight these bases so you can collect them when they drop.

In Trade you can bypass this process by searching for and purchasing a Magic rarity Vile Robe with Tier 1 flat Energy Shield (+91-96 to Maximum Energy Shield). The second modifier does not matter.

Step 2: Item to Rare & Fracturing the T1 Prefix

  • Required Currency: Orb(s) of Transmuation, Regal Orb(s), Fracturing Orb(s)
  • Other Required Materials: Preserved Rib(s)

If the Vile Robe only has the Energy Shield modifier, use an Orb of Augmentation to add an extra modifier, then use a Regal Orb to make the item Rare rarity with 3 total affixes. At this stage you'll need to use a Preserved Rib to add a Desecrated modifier.

Next, use a Fracturing Orb to fracture the T1 flat Energy Shield prefix. There's a 1/3 chance to hit the correct modifier. If you miss, you'll need to start again.

Ouch, back to Step 1 we go...

Perfect!

Step 3: Using Essences & Reveal Desecrated T1 Increased Energy Shield

  • Required Essences: Perfect Essence(s) of Ruin, Perfect Essence(s) of Seeking, Perfect Essence(s) of the Body
  • Other Required Materials: Preserved Rib(s), Omen(s) of Sinistral Necromancy

In this step we avoid using expensive Currency and other materials such as Orb of Annulment or Omen of Light by utilising the new mechanics of Perfect Essences that remove modifiers to add new ones.

Use the above Currency and other materials to arrange the correct modifiers on the item. You're looking for the following:

  • Prefix: (Fractured) T1 flat Energy Shield
  • Prefix: (Essence) Physical Hit Damage taken as Chaos Damage
  • Prefix: (Unrevealed) Desecrated modifier
  • Suffix: (Essence) Reduced incoming Critical Damage Bonus
  • Suffix: Empty
  • Suffix: Empty

Tip: Desecrating an item can be used to replace a modifier if there are no available modifier slots. For example, using a Preserved Rib with an active Omen of Sinistral Necromancy on an item with 3 prefix modifiers will remove a modifier to place a new Desecrated modifier.

Tip: If you cannot use Perfect Essence of Ruin or Perfect Essence of Seeking because those modifiers are already existent on the item, make use of a Perfect Essence of the Body to free up a modifier so you can use one of the aforementioned Essences again.

Once you have the above arrangement of modifiers, you should have an item that looks like this:

Take the item to the Well of Souls and reveal the Desecrated modifier. You're looking for T1 increased Energy Shield (101-110% increased Energy Shield). If you do not reveal the correct modifier, return to the beginning of Step 3 and use a Perfect Essence of the Body to free up the use of the other Essences. Repeat this step until you reveal the correct prefix.

Step 4: Obtaining Faster Start of Energy Shield Recharge & Final Modifier

  • Required Currency: Greater or Perfect Exalted Orb(s)
  • Other Required Materials: Omen(s) of Homogenising Exaltation
  • Situationally Required: Omen(s) of Sinistral Annulment, Orb(s) of Annulment, Perfect Essence(s) of Seeking

In this step we attempt to force T4+ Faster Start of Energy Shield Recharge by using an Omen of Homogenising Exaltation. There's a 2/3 chance that the Omen chooses our Defence prefixes, in which case it can only add the modifier we're looking for. Using a Greater Exalted Orb will guarantee at least T4 if we hit the correct modifier, whilst a Perfect Exalted Orb will guarantee T2+. However 1/3 times it will choose the other prefix and add an undesirable modifier instead.

Skip the next paragraph if you hit the correct modifier.

If you added an undesired modifier, you'll need to use an Omen of Sinistral Annulment and an Orb of Annulment to remove a suffix. In this case there's a 50/50 chance to remove the Reduced Critical Damage Bonus suffix, and if you do that you'll need to use another Omen of Sinistral Annulment and another Orb of Annulment to remove the final suffix. Now repeat the above step using the Omen of Homogenising Exaltation to attempt to add the desired suffix once more. Upon success, use an Omen of Greater Exaltation combined with a Greater Exalted Orb to add the final two suffixes. If you like the added modifiers, that's the end of this craft, but if you wish to readd the Reduced Critical Damage Bonus suffix then you can now use a Perfect Essence of Seeking, with a 2/3 chance of not removing the Faster Start of Energy Shield Recharge modifier.

With a successful use of Omen of Homogenising Exaltation, you should have something resembling the above item. There's no good way to influence the final modifier on the item. Due to cost, it's recommended to use a Greater Exalted Orb here - there's a good chance to hit a Resistance modifier or Intelligence. You can also use a Perfect Exalted Orb if you have an abundance of spare Currency.

And you're done, enjoy your new Body Armour!
