Overview
Basic Mechanics
What is Overflow?
An Overflowed resource, such as Life or Mana, can go above its normal maximum. Notably when a resource is Overflowed, the actual maximum doesn't change. Instead, the Overflowed resource stacks on top of the normal maximum, displayed on the left side of the counter.

A resource can Overflow up to a cap of 50% of the normal maximum, for an effective total of 150% of the maximum resource.
Upon losing the resource, from taking Damage or otherwise, the portion that would be lost is removed from the Overflow first.
Recovering an Overflowed Resource
The portion of a resource that's Overflowed cannot be recovered in any way. Normal recovery methods such as Regeneration, Leech or Flasks do not apply to any Overflowed resource. Therefore you're only able to simulate recovery of the Overflowed portion of a resource by Overflowing the resource again.
For example the
Couture of Crimson allows you to Overflow your Life by utilising Life Leech. Your Life Regeneration or Life Flask will not recover any part of the Overflowed Life that's lost, but Leeching Life whilst you're below the Overflow cap will allow you to Overflow any Life that's lost from taking Damage, effectively simulating recovery.
Overflow and Maximum Resources
An Overflowed resource is not counted for any mechanics that consider an amount of a maximum resource. For example, Overflowed Mana resulting from
Mana Remnants will not count toward the Extra Lightning Damage granted by
Archmage.
Note: the wording used in modifier text is crucial, such as the Blood Mage's
Gore Spike which scales from current Life, inclusive of any Overflowed Life.
Interactions
Couture of Crimson
Life Leech is normally instantly removed upon reaching Full Unreserved Life. However the
Couture of Crimson Unique Body Armour will cause Life Leech to Overflow Life, and therefore any Life Leech that exists while your Life is already Full will Overflow Life up to 50% of the maximum.
