Basic Mechanics

What is Electrocute?

Electrocute is a Non-Damaging Elemental Ailment that interrupts any current action of the target and prevents actions while it persists.

Importantly, Electrocute cannot be inflicted by default and must be enabled by a Skill or Equipment modifier. For example allows the wearer's Lightning Damage from Hits to Contribute to Electrocute Buildup. Another example is which causes all Lightning Damage that the target takes from Hits to cause Electrocute Buildup.

Note: a character with no modifiers to enable Electrocute Buildup will not inflict Electrocute with their Lightning Damage Hits.

Chance to Electrocute

Any Lightning Damage that can inflict Electrocute is able to cause Electrocute Buildup. The chance to inflict Electrocute is based on the total Lightning Damage of a Hit relative to the target's Ailment Threshold. For the majority of monsters, their Ailment Threshold is equal to their maximum Life, with the exception of stronger monsters such as some Rares and all Unique bosses. Stronger monsters have their Ailment Threshold adjusted to allow players to inflict Ailments on them. A character will typically be able to Electrocute weaker Monsters very quickly, but will require many more Hits to build towards an Electrocute on stronger Monsters such as map bosses.

Modifiers that grant 'increased Electrocute Buildup', such as do not apply a base chance to inflict Electrocute. Instead they directly scale the Buildup of Electrocute based on the Lightning Damage relative to the target's Ailment Threshold.

Since Electrocute Buildup is calculated post-mitigation, any modifiers that affect how much Damage a target takes, such as Shock or Exposure, can help to improve your chance to inflict Electrocute by improving the Damage dealt by the Hit.

Note: Shock is particularly useful to aid in Electrocute Buildup, as it's already inflicted by Lightning Damage Hits by default.

Duration of Electrocute

The default Duration of Electrocute is 5 seconds. The effective Duration of Electrocute can be increased with modifiers that slow down the expiry rate of effects on the target, such as .

Interactions

Electrocute Support

is a Support Gem that will allow the supported Skill to inflict Electrocute with Lightning Damage from Hits. However, in trade-off the Lightning Damage from Hits with the supported Skill can no longer inflict Shock.

Brain Rattler

The Unique Mace has the special modifier 'All Damage with this Weapon causes Electrocution Buildup'. Any Damage dealt by Hits with this weapon will have the Electrocute calculation altered to include all types of Damage, allowing non-Lightning Damage to inflict Electrocute.

Beyond Reach

is a Unique Quiver that enables the Chaos Damage dealt by Hits to inflict Electrocute.

Note: the modifier 'Chaos Damage from Hits also Contributes to Electrocute Buildup' will not enable Lightning Damage to inflict Electrocute.
