OverwatchOverwatch Vendetta Guide and Overview
Vendetta Overview
Vendetta, champion of the Colosseo, is Overwatch’s only true melee DPS hero. A ruthless gladiator driven by rage and unrelenting ambition to reclaim her family’s lost empire. Wielding the massive Palatine Fang greatsword, she combines lightning-fast movement with lethal crowd control and burst damage.
In team comps, Vendetta’s purpose is to dive and destabilize backlines, force out cooldowns, and create chaos that her teammates can follow up on. Unlike ranged DPS, she must be in the thick of battle to find value. This high-risk, high-reward playstyle demands precise timing, smart target selection, and the ability to read the battlefield to know when it is safe to commit. Doing so correctly brings huge returns, as Vendetta can single-handedly destroy a team’s backline, which will trigger the Tank falling next and winning the fight.
TLDR
Play As
- Stage from off-angles and high ground to approach the enemy from angles they can’t see you coming.
- Prioritize high-value isolated targets, such as a Wuyang positioned behind the rest of his team.
- Use not only her block but also her mobility survive by evading enemy attacks.
Play Against
- Maintain distance. Save your escape tool for when you see her use her sword toss dash. She can’t chase you if you reposition after.
- The moment she arrives, focus her. She won’t be able to escape for a few seconds, and that is your team’s best opportunity to punish her.
- Use crowd control to neutralize her. She can only try to dodge it as her shield does not absorb CC.

- Weak vs CC
Strengths And Weaknesses Explained
Strengths
Major advantage at close-range
Vendetta’s combos and mobility make her deadly in CQC duels. When she sticks to a target, her burst and sustained sword damage can overwhelm most heroes before they escape
Mobility and disruption
Abilities like Whirlwind Dash and Soaring Slice let her enter, reposition, or disengage quickly. This mobility makes her unpredictable and hard to pin down in brawls.
Snowballing
Her Onslaught passive increases movement and attack speed as she hits enemies. If the skirmish lasts for more than a few seconds, she becomes even more powerful, and her damage can overwhelm her target.
Weaknesses
Extremely limited range
Vendetta struggles at long distances; ranged poke and hitscan harassment can peel targets before she gets within striking distance.
Glass cannon
Vendetta is as squishy as she is deadly. Misusing cooldowns or diving too many heroes at once will generally lead to her own death.
Vulnerable to crowd control
Her block does not stop CC, Sleep Dart, or stuns. Knockbacks can instantly shut down her engage if she already used her dashes and then gets booped while blocking.
Vendetta Ability Tips
Primary Fire: Palatine Fang
Tips for
Palatine Fang
- After the nerfs to her ability damage, the regular sword swings and overhead are your main source of damage.
- Once you are in range, just spam primary fire and don’t worry about your other abilities except for movement or blocking.
- When you see your target, you can prime the overhead byperforming two swings behind cover, then popping out to attack them with the 3rd swing that is the big overhead slash.
- It’s short, but you have a small window of time to pause after the 2nd slash and still perform the overhead.
- Longer range than you think. If you hold forward and jump during the overhead start-up, you’ll hit targets that were more than 10m away from you.
Secondary Fire: Warding Stance
Tips for
Warding Stance
- Not invincible, only damage reduction, so make sure you have a decent amount of health left when using it, so don’t just die anyway (ex, ~100HP).
- Blocks 100% melee damage like Reinhardt's Hammer. Blocking melee also drains the resource.
- Once block is depleted, it’s time to get out of the fight.
Protected Edge (Primary Fire during Warind Stance)
- Mostly for poke damage to farm ult charge.
- Not much of a lethal threat. But smart to use before getting into close range, and anytime you want to get in extra damage against a target outside of your sword toss range.
- Good for securing elims as the final blow on a low HP enemy that barely survived your initial attack.
- Firing the projectile also consumes block resource.
[SHIFT]: Whirlwind Dash
Tips for
Whirlwind Dash
- Because you’ll always be using the sword throw dash to engage, save Whirlwind Dash to retreat.
- The damage is ok, but only worth using when multiple enemies are grouped up, or when needing a quick final blow.
[E]: Soaring Slice
Tips for
Soaring Slice
- Use Sword Toss to gain verticality, take high ground, and set up your next engage.
- Ideally, you don’t want the enemy to see you coming. Always path to catch your target by surprise.
- You can use Soaring Slice early to get into position, then wait for the cooldown to refresh before actually diving in.
- Overhead always follows the sword catch.
Ultimate: Sundering Blade
Tips for
Sundering Blade
- Charging to stage 3 takes about 2.5 seconds. That is a very long time to be standing still. Make sure to use terrain or an ally barrier to survive channeling.
- Use Soaring Slice to dash into the air, then activate Ul, charge to Stage 3, and crash down from above at a choke point so the enemy doesn’t know exactly where you are coming from.
Passive: Onslaught
Tips for
Onslaught
- The buffs do not decay gradually like many other abilities. When it expires, it drops to zero instantly.
- If you stopped being able to primary slice during a fight, be ready for your attacks to be slower, or for you to suddenly not be able to chase the enemy down. If you lose the passive, don’t over-commit; it’s ok to disengage and try again.
- When you have healing resources, you can get a lot of benefit from the passive.
Perks
Minor Perks
Siphoning Strike
- Vendetta’s best sustain tool. Without this perk, you have to play way more passively and disengage far sooner.
- Recommended Minor Perk
Extra Edge
- The best tip for Extra Edge is to not use it.
- In theory, you can get an extra projectile in before recharging, but this is very low impact.
Major Perks
Relentless
- Taking Relentless increases the Onslaught passive buffs from 25% attack speed up to 40%, and from 20% movement speed up to 32%.
- Incredibly strong when combined with Sihponning Strike, since you’ll be able to stay swinging for longer.
- Coordinate with your team because a pocketed Vendetta with full Relentless buff will feel unstoppable to the enemy team.
- Recommended Major perk
Raging Storm
- Decent extra AoE damage, and a bit of extra movement.
- Use if you struggle to be accurate with her primary fire and need the big swings to add consistent damage.
