OverwatchOverwatch Domina Guide and Overview
Domina Overview
Domina is a barrier poke tank with great ranged damage. Rotating around the objective and using the environment to control distance from the enemy frontline are critical to finding success with her kit.
In Tank matchups, she excels at medium-range poke battles. Most of the other
Tanks beat her at close-range, but she has crowd control abilities to help her dictate the pace of the battle.
Teammates with similar ranged capabilities are great pairings, because they’ll get a lot of benefit from her massive barrier. Overall, as long as she can control spacing, she’s at an advantage, but heavy dive and brawl comps are difficult for her to deal with if she’s unable to outrun them.
TLDR
Play As
- Always play near cover. Peek out for the beam burst, and quickly hide between shots.
- Use your range to target DPS and
Supports to get a quick elim or force them to retreat.
- Position around the perimeter of objectives so you can contest without getting surrounded.
Play Against
- AoE and explosive damage can be used to destroy multiple barrier panels at once.
- Dive counters her playstyle. Overwhelm her by quickly getting behind her barrier.
- If a teammate gets imprisoned by her ult. Help them destroy the barrier from the outside.
Strengths And Weaknesses Summarized

Domina Ability Tips
Primary Fire: Photon Magnum
Tips for
Photon Magnum
- Longest beam in OW. Although it has a limited range of 25m,
Photon Magnum has a greater range than any other beam in the game.
Domina has the range advantage in all Tank matchups other than
Orisa,
Mauga, and
Ramattra in Omnic Form- Burst shot at the end is hitscan. No need to lead the shot.
- The burst and range make
Domina especially effective at jiggle peeking while her barrier is on cooldown. - Briefly position behind cover between shots and during beam startup. Only peek out to shoot just before the high-impact shot fires. Doing so will minimize the time she can take damage, while still maintaining high dps output.
Secondary Fire: Barrier Array
Tips for
Barrier Array
- Deploy the semi-circle barrier in front of choke points and in hallways with side doors. This maximizes the sightlines your team is protected from and can attack through.
- After choosing a placement for the barrier, each panel has its own HP, and must be destroyed individually or will expire at max duration.
Barrier Array is weak against AoE damage that can destroy multiple panels at once. Examples include
Junkrat mines and
Reinhardt
Rocket Hammer.
[SHIFT]: Sonic Repulsors
Tips for
Sonic Repulsors
- Wall slams stun and inflict bonus damage. Be aware of the surrounding environment and try to position the enemy between
Domina and a wall or structure, such as a payload. - Against melee heroes, use this as a “get off me” button.
Domina doesn’t want to be point-blank. She wants to use her Crystal and beam range. - When possible, look for environmental KO opportunities, such as on Eichenwald’s bridge.
[E]: Crystal Charge
Tips for
Crystal Charge
- Extremely good for restoring shields with her passive
Reconstruction. - When your HP is low, target deployables like an enemy
Domina's barrier to rapidly deal ability damage and burst heal yourself.
- When your HP is low, target deployables like an enemy
- Nearly infinite range (100 meters). Use it as soon as you see enemies while they are outside of your beam’s range.
- Upon impact with hero or terrain, the Crystal deals damage over time.
- Can be manually detonated in the air. Time detonation to explode right on top of enemies.
- Pierces through barriers so you can shoot
Tanks like
Sigma while they are protected from your beam.
Ultimate: Panopticon
Tips for
Panopticon
- How the explosive damage works
- Barrier HP: 450
- Explosion damage scales from 100 – 300 based on barrier HP on expiration
- The hero inside can damage it, and their teammates outside the barrier can destroy it as well.
- Best used on
Supports and other heroes with low barrier damage capabilities.
Kiriko and
Ana, for example, both deal very low damage to barriers and will likely be instakilled by the explosion unless outside teammates help destroy its health.- On the other hand,
Roadhog will quickly burn through it, and can use
Take a Breather to further reduce damage taken.
- Keep attacking!
- Imprisoned enemies can’t attack you, but they still take damage from
Domina and her teammates. If you get the low, the explosion will often be enough to secure the elim.
- Imprisoned enemies can’t attack you, but they still take damage from
Passive: Reconstruction
Tips for
Reconstruction
- All ability damage counts towards
Reconstruction shield restoration. Including damage to barriers, deployables, and heroes. - When your shields are low, keep an eye on how much you have as you deal ability damage. When you are able to deal more damage, you’ll be able to stay in the fight longer.
Perks
Minor Perks
Efficient Design
- Best for defensive play.
- When using Efficient Design, always wait to take a bit of damage before deploying her barrier.
Extended Power
- Better for offense.
- Extending your primary fire by 5m is very powerful; do not underestimate the strength of this minor perk.
- After activating, experiment with the increased range. Keep rotating during fights, and abuse your superior range when battling
Tanks.
- Ignore the enemy
Tank and use your Beam to Target squishy targets who think they are safe.
Major Perks
Disruptive Detonation
- Aim to detonate
Crystal Charge between two enemies to maximize the perk’s CC effect. - Slow down the enemy
Tank's approach, and hinder enemies trying to escape.
- Recommended Major Perk
Power Move
- Good to give
Domina counterplay against melee heroes. - Once the enemy is in melee range, first deploy barrier behind them, then use
Sonic Repulsors to wall slam them into your barrier. - Power Move only causes barrier to act as a wall for Sonic wall slams. Enemies can still freely walk and move through it as usual.
