Overwatch Overwatch D.Mon Guide and Overview
D.Mon Overview
D.Mon is the new tank that was released with Season 4 on August 11th. Lore-wise, she is part of the same MEKA Squad as
D.Va.
Overall, as a sword and shield Tank with propulsor mobility, she is naturally a hybrid between
Reinhardt and
D.Va.
Her abilities make her excel in sticking onto enemies, staying active in skirmishes, and setting up for a big
Limit Break to initiate teamfights.
D.Mon was created by the same designer as
Juno and
Domina.

TLDR D.Mon Guide
As
- Cycle between your Saber and Barrier. Don't stand in the open holding your shield or mindlessly swing at enemies. Alternate between blocking, attacking, using Armor, and taking cover to keep yourself alive and prevent your Barrier from breaking.
- Use
Propulsors and
Surging Strike to chase enemies and clean up fights rather than hard-diving the enemy backline. - Use Limit Break offensively to start or turn teamfights. Try to hit multiple enemies with the sweeping slash, then capitalize on the 50% damage amplification with your team. Be aware of defensive abilities that can cleanse or negate the debuff before committing your Ultimate.
Against
- High ground is the best universal counter to
D.Mon. Her only means of contesting is
Fusion Repeater, but it's not going to force you off. Her ult also does not reach vertical ground. - Watch her barrier patterns and notice when the enemy
D.Mon likes to swing. Use CC abilities like
Binding Chain and
Sleep Dart to shut her down. - Don't fall the trap of thinking you are safe at range.
Portable Fusion Repeater deals enough damage secure kills on its own at midrange, and will finish you off when caught at low HP.
Strengths And Weaknesses Summarized
- Agile skirmisher
- Good at chasing, closing horizontal gaps
- Hitscan gun makes her respectable at range
- Damage amplification ultimate
- Short-ranged
- Lacks vertical movement
- Reliant on cooldown windows, not that useful during downtime
- No crowd control besides knockback
D.Mon Ability Tips

Primary Fire: Plasma Saber
Tips for
Plasma Saber
- Fast energy melee weapon that attacks in two swing bursts
- Slashes in an AoE cone
General playstyle for
Plasma Saber is to use
Propulsors and
Surging Strike to get into saber range, then alternate between double swings and holding
Power Barrier. Even when you are swinging aggressively, don't forget to keep one eye on your HP, and another watching the enemy and blocking their counterattacks.
The horizontal AoE is wide and you can extend it further by flicking your crosshairs in the direction of the swing. Anytime you are swinging into more than one enemy, always aim to cleave multiple with each strike.
Primary Fire with [E] Activated: Portable Fusion Repeater
Tips for
Portable Fusion Repeater
- A heavy machine gun that's available for a 4-second duration, then goes on a 6-second cooldown.
Portable Fusion Repeater has surprisingly potent DPS. The gun can help keep flyers in check, and gives
D.Mon the ability to contest at range and farm ult charge before full-committing with her dash and sabor.
Anytime you are outside of Sabor range, or it is not safe to charge into the enemy team, bust out the machine gun!
Secondary Fire: Power Barrier
Tips for
Power Barrier
- Holds a frontal energy barrier similar to
Reinhardt - Cannot attack while shielding
Propulsors are available but still suffer from the 30% movement-speed penalty
D.Mon has while Barrier is deployed.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking that
Power Barrier is
D.Mon's only means of protection and survival. The barrier is her best mitigation tool and is especially useful for protecting your teammates. However, using her Armor health and cover are equally important. Never let your shield break and constantly move between absorbing damage with armor, holding up barrier while you get healing, swinging and armor, take cover, repeat.
[SHIFT] Propulsors
Tips for
Propulsors
- Consume fuel to surge in any horizontal direction
- It does not maintain her verticality like
Juno's
Glide Boost,
D.Mon will fall to the ground
D.Mon can jump while
Propulsors are activated- Barrier, Saber, and Repeater are all available to use with
Propulsors.
Propulsors are equally useful for reposition and for chasing down targets.
D.Mon is not really a dive tank like
D.Va, but where she really excels is cleaning up team fights. Use
Propulsors aggressively during the mid-fight to convert your team's advantage into a fight win by boosting into low HP enemies and securing the final blows.
Secondary Fire with Power Barrier Active: Surging Strike
Tips for
Surging Strike
- While
Power Barrier is deployed, strike forward to damage and push enemies back, feels similar to
Brigitte's
Shield Bash but as a stabbing motion. - Use
Surging Strike frequently as it has a short 6-second cooldown.
The primary use for the dash is to keep enemies in range of her saber slashes. As they retreat dash into them for a burst of damage and to stay on top of them.
[Q] Ultimate: Limit Break
Tips for
Limit Break
- Unleash a sweeping slash that grants self overhealth and amplifies damage taken by enemies by 50%.
- Has a 1-second cast time
- Damage goes through shields
- Blocked by line of sight
- Has a horizontal plane, so can be ducked under or jumped above
- A cone, not a 360
Limit Break Can be used in a pinch to desperately attempt to save yourself from death since it generates 250 overhealth + 50 extra for each enemy hit. The much greater value, however, comes from using it offensively for the damage taken and slow debuffs.
First, make a mental checklist of counters the enemy team has such as
Protection Suzu or a defensive ult like
Sound Barrier. After you visually confirm the enemy team does not have access to these counters, is strong enough to nearly guarantee kills against enemies without needing extensive coordination from your teammates.
Passive: Eject! + [Q when out of mech]: Call Mech
Tips for
Eject! (D.Mon)
- Eject out of your mech when it’s destroyed.
- Uses same hitscan gun as mech form.
- Once ult gauge refills, can reenter mech.
Although you have a machine gun, you are extremely vulnerable in this state. Quickly determine your goal. Either die to regroup, or get to your team and find protection while you farm ult to re-mech.
Perks
Minor Perks
- Beast Within
- Plasma Saber hits heal Power Shield by 40 health
Very powerful survivability tool. Having more barrier health enables more aggressive playmaking since every saber hit is rewarded with barrier health, which in turn allows you to stay in the fight longer.
- Meka Mobility
- While holding Power Shield, Propulsors' fuel cost is reduced by 30%
Decent buff to movement while shielding. Useful when you find you are needing to get-in-get-out frequently, or want to peel more effectively. Also helps in matchups against abilities like
Chain Hook or
Biotic Grenade where you need to be able to shield and move often.
Major Perks
- Overstrike
- Surging Strike gains 150% lifesteal
When using Overstrike,
D.Mon generates 105 HP per hit. Take Overstrike as your Major perk in matches where you are spending the majority of your time in close quarters combat.
- Focused Fusion
- Fusion Repeater fires stronger shots with no spread at a slower rate
The slower rate of fire requires slightly stricter tracking, but the zero spread rewards good aim. A good choice on maps where you are forced into more ranged engagements or when the enemy is trying to counter you by playing out of your optimal range.

How to Counter D.Mon
- Abuse high ground, she can't reach it easily and her ultimate,
Limit Break, only hits on a horizontal plane. - Her lack of verticality makes her susceptible to blocking her path with abilities like
Ice Wall and
Jagged Wall. - Skills like
Binding Chain and
Ravenous Vortex can keep her movement potential in check. - If you're a flyer or long-range, respect her
Portable Fusion Repeater. It isn't her strength but it's enough to kill you if you overextend due to hitscan. - Due to her lack of CC and defensive options outside of her
Power Barrier, she can't peel as well as other Tanks against dive. - Although she has a large health pool and plenty of armor, she has large head hurtbox and doesn't get reduced crit damage like the
Bruiser Tanks. When
Power Barrier is not up, she is a bullet sponge.
