OverwatchOverwatch Baptiste Guide and Overview
Baptiste Overview
When you want to DPS but you’re forced to Support, Baptiste is the hero for you. Often compared to a Soldier:76 who also heals, his hitscan burst weapon is good for dealing with fliers and laying down constant poke pressure. With a bit of mobility from Exo Boots and his Immortality Field, Bap has the flexibility to fit into many different team comps and doesn’t have any terrible matchups.
All his healing is AoE-based, so he gets the most value with grouped-up teams and low-mobility allies. You’ll find Bap positioned behind his team or taking high ground to pressure the enemy team with his Biotic Launcher.
TLDR
Playing As
- Multitask healing and damage. Don’t tunnel vision on only healbotting or only attacking, and forget to keep your team alive.
- Be patient with Immortality Field. Wait for the enemy to commit their abilities and ultimates before deploying it.
- Don’t sit still. Use Exo Boots to take high ground, fall to safety, and jump back up to the fight.
Playing Against
- Don’t commit long cooldowns or ultimates until after you’ve seen him use Immortality Field. Try to attack with your standard attacks or short CDs, retreat, then re-engage after he’s used it.
- Watch his jumps, and track him in the air. He’s easiest to elim while he’s locked in the jump arc.
- His primary fire has severe damage falloff. Keep your distance and take him down with heroes like Ana, Kiri, and Widowmaker.

Strengths And Weaknesses Explained
Strengths
DPS Support
As far as Supports go, Bap has some of the best offense. His damage output is on par with some DPS heroes. If you feel your team is lacking damage, swapping to Bap can make up for it without sacrificing sustain.
Immortality Field
Just having an ability that makes everyone in its AoE unkillable is a power of gigantic proportions. The use of Immortality Field can control the pace of fights and determine when the enemy team can get elims.
AoE and Burst Healing
Bap is unique in having great single-target, AoE, and burst healing. Whether the enemy team is focusing one ally or his whole team is taking damage, Bap has no trouble providing the sustain needed.
Weaknesses
Long Cooldowns
The primary and most exploitable weakness of his kit is that both his cooldowns are on long timers. When trading Regen Burst or Immortality Field with enemy abilities, they will generally have their abilities to use again long before Bap has his.
Vulnerable against dive comps
Enemy Tanks like D.Va and Winston, or DPS like Venture and Tracer, see Bap as an easy pick. He can make up for this a bit later in a game with Rocket Boots Major Perk and make avoiding their attacks easier.
Exo Boots are a two-edged sword
Jumping over a wall and blasting the enemy makes for some cool aggro play, but anytime Bap jumps, it's like painting a huge target on his face. Depending on the enemy comp and specific situation, jumping or staying grounded may be the better play, and it can be difficult to know which to choose.
Baptiste Ability Tips
Primary Fire: Biotic Launcher
Tips for
Biotic Launcher (Primary Fire)
- Weave in healing shots
- To maximize his APM, alternate between primary and secondary fire. Stand behind your tank or teammate and aim for the enemy.
- Your ally in front of you will protect you from damage, receive your healing, and your damage goes through them to hit the enemy.
- Aim for the upper chest
- The three-round burst recoil kicks vertically, then resets in between each burst. Aiming for the upper chest of enemies will help you consistently land shots and get in a few headshots with each burst as well.
Secondary Fire: Biotic Launcher (healing)
Tips for
Biotic Launcher (Secondary Fire)
- Aim for the legs
- Splash healing is twice the direct impact healing. Therefore, it’s better to at least get the splash healing with every shot than it is to hit some direct hits and completely miss some shots.
- Aiming for legs means even when you miss, the projectile will explode on the ground and still give your ally healing.
- Splash heal on walls
- Trying to heal aerial allies like Pharah or Genji can be very difficult. If they are near walls or ceilings, aim for the surface and get the AoE healing on them.
[SHIFT]: Regenerative Burst
Tips for
Regenerative Burst
- Be extra careful when not available
- The long cooldown is easy for enemies to track. If you don’t have Regen Burst, Bap can’t heal himself if he gets dove. Stay near your other Support until you can use it again.
- Double healing for critical health allies
- The best time to use Regen Burst is when you or your teammates are already at very low health. They heal more, and you gain more ult charge.
- AoE persists once activated
- Your ally only needs to be in range when activating the ability. So Bap could Exo Boost into the air, activate Regen Burst on an Echo, and she could fly away and keep getting the healing over time.
[E]: Immortality Field
Tips for
Immortality Field
- Treat like a 2nd Ult
- Just because you automatically get it back after 25 seconds doesn’t mean you should just throw Immortality Field out the moment your team takes damage. Don’t die without deploying, but also be disciplined, and use it only if you are certain it's the only way to keep yourself or an ally alive.
- Place behind cover
- Immortality Field has very low HP, so if the enemy can see it, they will destroy it.
- Whenever possible, deploy behind a barrier or wall that still allows your team to be within its AoE.
(Ctrl): Exo Boots
Tips for
Exo Boots
- Don’t spam jump
- If you become predictable with super jumps, the enemy will start killing you while airborne. Vary how much charge to change height.
- Take the high ground
- Bap should always be positioned above the battlefield. He’s safer and has an easier time landing the lobbed healing shots.
- Shoot over walls and barriers
- Jump over cover to land final blows on retreating enemies, or get into the LoS of allies being cut off.
- Remember to be careful when jumping above barriers and walls, as the enemy could be waiting and pick you off.
Ultimate: Amplification Matrix
Tips for
Amplification Matrix
- Deploy in front of your team
- When in a poke-heavy comp, it's best to put the window in front of your team where everyone can shoot through it. The double damage of a whole team will either destroy the enemy team or force them to retreat.
- Deploy behind your team
- When you need double healing, or are paired with another projectile Support like Juno, you can place window right in front of you and behind the rest of your team. Great for when you need to burst heal a tank and save the fight.
- Don’t be a Reddit Bap
- You may see cool clips of Baps you put down Immortality Field and Amp Matrix to get a triple kill all on their own. This is incredibly unreliable and a waste of Bap's two most important abilities.
Perks
Minor Perks
Expanded Field
Makes Barrier Field tosses much more consistent and forgiving. The AoE is huge, so even if your placement isn’t perfect, you have a much higher chance of getting yourself and your teammates within the field.
Major Perks
Assault Burst
- Allows for a more aggressive playstyle
- Can also be used defensively to counterattack a flanker.
- Reload first! Don’t get caught with low ammo during the short window of time when you want to be nonstop firing!
Automated Healing
- Nice to have for some extra healing. May not feel game-changing because his cooldowns are so long, but the extra 120 can make the difference of life and death for an ally.
Rocket Boots
- Strengthens Bap's biggest weakness
- With only vertical mobility, Bap struggles against high mobility enemies. He just jumps up and gets destroyed mid-air. With Rocket Boots, he becomes significantly more evasive.
- Also comes in handy when jumping over barriers and walls, as you can mix up your movement and make it less likely to get sniped out of the air.
- The best choice, especially against dive comps.
Maps
Best Maps
Range and verticality are two of Bap’s best capabilities. Maps with space for Bap to sit back and spam his primary and secondary fire are excellent choices. High ground is his best friend when it comes to safely assisting his team and escaping enemy attacks. Most enemies can’t keep up with Bap if he can jump up and down from a high ground area.
- Runasapi
- Havana
- Paraíso
Worst Maps
The worst maps for Bap are those that favor dive comps because he doesn’t synergize very well with dive, and is an easy target when there are multiple dive heroes on the enemy team. Additionally, if the map's main high ground areas are too high for Exo Boots, then his only mobility tool becomes useless.

Team Comp Synergies
Team comps built around Baptiste can take full advantage of his superior AoE sustain abilities. Biotic Launcher healing, Regenerative Burst, and Immortality get the most value when used in teams that tend to position close together. He has difficulty healing small and highly mobile heroes. Although he has excellent vertical mobility, he can’t keep up with flankers and dive heroes who quickly engage the enemy.
Example of a team comp built around Baptiste
- Tank:
Orisa
Sigma - DPS:
Cassidy,
Bastion - Supports:
Baptiste,
Zenyatta
Individual Hero Synergies
Orisa
Orisa holds down the frontline better than just about any other Tank. She’s also large and slow, which makes Bap’s healing easy to consistently land direct impacts. Her poke style pairs perfectly with Bap's kit because they want to hold the same corners, play on the same sightlines, and other teammates tend to play right next to Orisa as well.
Cassidy
Cassidy and Bap together are a potent hitscan duo. Between the two of them, dive is easy to deal with, brawl can be poked down before they close the distance, and they can contend with any poke comp. When Cassidy ults, throw a lamp on him. If the enemy team can’t block or stun cancel, they’re goners!
Zenyatta
The perfect poke backline. Zen and Bap output such oppressive poke damage that enemy teams struggle just to walk forward. Their only weakness is to dive. Even then, they can use Immortality Field and Regen Burst to survive the dive, then discord to counterattack and win the duel. Amplification Matrix placed in front of Bap and Zen melts through barriers and deletes any enemies who can’t get out of their LoS.
