What Are Decorations?

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Decorations are a player power mechanic that vastly expands your build options. Most Decorations grant one rank in a given skill, but rarer ones can grant multiple ranks at a time, or even multiple skills at a time.

Explore all the Decorations in the game at our Build Planner:

For some weapons in particular, Decorations provide critical power spikes for endgame hunts. In other instances, Decorations can grant niche defensive layers that are critical against certain types of monsters.

There are quite a lot of Decorations to mix and match to your heart’s content. Use them to your advantage and design the best builds possible!

How to Get Decorations

Historically, Decorations have been acquired in two distinct ways in the Monster Hunter series: RNG and direct crafting. In Wilds, we will see a return to RNG-based Decorations with some limited direct crafting.

This means after higher-end low-rank quests and above you will appraise (roll the RNG dice) decorations at the post-quest looting screen. Fighting Tempered High-Rank monsters will give you the best odds at the rarest and most powerful Decorations (denoted by the yellow decoration and blue decoration symbols).

How to Use Decorations

Decorations can be placed in slots granted to you by your gear (i.e. your amor set or your weapons). These slots range from sizes 1 to 3:

  • 1: 1 slot Shield Jewel
  • 2: 2 slot Expert Jewel II
  • 3: 3 slot Paralyzer Jwl III

Depending on the Decoration you wish to equip, the slot size must meet or exceed the size of the Decoration. For example, if you have a size 2 Decoration, you cannot place it in a size 1 slot. But you could place a size 1 Decoration in a size 2 slot.

Additionally, there is a new restriction added to Decorations in Monster Hunter Wilds. There are now two distinct flavors of Decoration: Armor armor decoration and Weapon weapon decorations . Armor Decorations can only be equipped in armor slots, while weapon Decorations can only be equipped in weapon slots.

Melding

Melding is also making a return to Monster Hunter Wilds! After the Chapter 3 Quest, "Nothing Frozen, Nothing Gained", you'll get access to Suja along with Vio, the Melding Pot NPC.

Have Decorations or monster parts you don’t need? Throw them in the pot and roll the dice for new Decorations!

There are other special items you can use to meld for more Decorations outside of the ones you don’t want/need that come from endgame quests. You can also directly craft certain low-rarity Decorations with melding.

What Are Talismans?

Talismans are very similar to decorations in the fact that they grant additional armor skills, but instead of relying on gear slots, they take up a unique place in your equipment menu. There are no restrictions to Talismans once you obtain them.

Higher-level Talismans typically grant more than one skill and/or multiple ranks of skills at once. Talismans are a great way to shore up skills your builds want without having to sacrifice your currently equipped armor and weapons.

How to Get and Upgrade Talismans

Talismans can be directly crafted and upgraded from the Smithy using a variety of materials. Most Talismans have multiple layers of upgrading that will eventually require parts from endgame monsters to reach their maximum level.
