Shyvana is back in the meta after her visual and gameplay updates in March 2026. She has had her kit slightly tweaked and her visuals completely upgraded. Shyvana is looking better than ever, and her kit and visuals look modern compared to her previous design. Riot has been working on upgrading and updating her for many years now, so it is nice to see the changes hit the live servers.
Whenever a champion is released or updated, we create an article on how to play against them, and with Shyvana's update, this is no different. Even though her kit is quite similar, her playstyle is very different to the one we were previously seeing. Her build path is changed, her max order has changed, and you will not always see her being played as an AP one-shot carry.
In this article, we are going to discuss several tips and tricks on how to counter and play against Shyvana in season 26. For more articles like this, head over to our new guides page.
Before we begin, I recommend you check out our how to play guide, which can also help you play against her. If you know how to play a champion, it is much easier for you to know how to play against them. We will not be breaking down all her abilities, so I recommend you check out our How to Play Shyvana Guide and read the ability breakdown there.
1) Invade and Deny Camps
Our first tip is very important for countering her kit. Shyvana scales with the more camps that she takes, so one way of directly reducing her strength in the mid and late game is by stealing away her camps. Her Passive scales and makes her stronger with the more camps and kills she gets, but by taking away these camps, by taking away the Dragons and other objectives like the Grubs, you will directly reduce her snowball potential in the mid and late game.

Furthermore, denying these camps will reduce her gold and XP income, which will delay her power spikes and reduce her ganking potential.
A good time to invade her is when she has ganked a lane. For instance, if you see that she has ganked your top lane, then you could invade her bottom-side jungle and steal away those camps. However, it is crucial to secure those major objectives as well.
Taking the Drake away from her can benefit your team, as it also provides your team with a buff and denies it to the enemy. Try to take the Dragon and other objectives like the Grubs or Rift Herald at the earliest possible moment.
Right now in League of Legends, getting that soul point early is crucial to winning the game, so make sure you are actively looking to take these objectives when you can. You can take these after ganking your bot lane, or when your nearby lanes have priority.
2) Play Around Her Fury
Shyvana needs her Fury bar to be full before she can cast her Ultimate. It is ideal to force team fights or force skirmishes with her when she is nowhere near getting her dragon form. She is arguably much stronger when she is in dragon form; fighting her outside of this is a must. Look for fights when she has little to no Fury, or just after her dragon form has ended as this is when she is most vulnerable.

If she has her Fury bar full, do not fight. Wait for her to use her Ultimate first. If she is in her dragon form, try to wait for it to end before jumping on her or continuing the fight. She can extend the duration of her Ultimate by auto-attacking and dealing damage, so disengaging and then re-engaging it is key.
I know this isn't always possible, but try your hardest to play around this when you can.
3) Don’t Fight in The Jungle
She is quite strong in team fights with her new kit. Her kit deals considerable damage and has AOE effects. By not fighting in the jungle or around major objectives, you will reduce her effectiveness in team fights. When you are grouped up with your allies, it is easier for her to deal damage to multiple enemies at once. Try to fight her in the open rather than in these tight quartered areas.
I understand that it is not always possible, and you will have to fight in these areas sometimes. So try to make the odds in your favour. Lock her down with CC as soon as she jumps in, try to fight when she doesn't have her dragon form, disengage as soon as she engages, or focus her first and take her out of the fight. Doing any of these things will make team fights more favorable and reduce her chances of dealing a lot of damage.

Another idea is to not group or move so close together. Her Q, W and E can deal damage to multiple enemies if they are standing on top of one another, so by spacing appropriately, you will reduce her damage output.
4) Pick Early Game Junglers vs Her
Champions that are strong in the early game tend to be good against Shyvana as she needs to scale and needs time to come online. She will focus on power farming early to hit 6 and get her Ultimate. This means if you're playing an early game Jungler, you can capitalise on this to start the snowball for your allies. Early game Junglers are also strong in those 1v1 situations, so they can invade her and fight as well.
Some strong early game Junglers include Lee Sin who is both strong in those 1v1 duels, so you can invade her and fight her, and is a strong ganker, so you can get your team ahead by ganking early. Jarvan is a fantastic choice who excels at both invading and fighting the enemy Jungler. He is really good at ganking his allies pre-six with his E>Q combo. Xin Zhao is an S-tier Jungler right now and another strong early game duelist. He can easily get into her jungle, fight and kill her, or gank his allies over and over again.

5) Pick Disengage Champions
Picking disengage champions against Shyvana is a great option to reduce her usefulness and her snowball potential. Picking champions that can CC her and interrupt her engage and all-in, while also creating distance, will play a huge part in reducing her kill pressure.
Champions such as Renata are good because her Ultimate can counter Shy’s engage and create distance. Janna because her Q can interrupt all ins, her W can slow the Shyvana down, and her Ultimate can knock her back as well. Poppy is another option for the Top, Jungle, and Support roles, and she has multiple tools, including her W, E, and R, to interrupt Shyvana in a team fight.
It doesn't just have to be utility supports, though. There are many other champions from various roles who are good too. Sivir has disengage with her ultimate, Gragas has multiple tools, including his R to knock her away, Anivia has her Q and her Wall, while Tahm Kench can interrupt engages with his R and W.

Final Thoughts
And that about sums up our guide to countering the new Shyvana. I think that the new Shyvana is much nicer to play, and the visual upgrade is very good in my opinion. Don't listen to what Reddit and the community say about her kit, try her for yourself and use everything we have suggested in this guide and our other guides to help you play as and against Shyvana in season 26!
