Really strong dueling potential in the lane thanks to his W. This ability allows him to both block damage as well as heal himself by a respectable amount.
Post-six, he can select any target and convert the fight into a 1 v 1. This can mean hell for any immobile or low health enemy carry as Mordekaiser can easily E>Q them.
Once he gets enough items, he will be nearly unkillable unless the enemy team focuses him down. In a team fight, his E can be extremely beneficial when fighting against clumped enemy teams.
Quite immobile, which can lead to him being camped a lot during the laning phase. Once set back during the early game, he won’t be able to dish out a lot of damage.
On missing his E, Mordekaiser’s opponents can easily all-in and engage on him. This is because he won’t be able to displace the enemy team, and the carries will be able to freely all-in him.
Early Grievous Wounds can reduce his W damage by a lot. This will help his enemy even out the duels during the early game.

Split push during the mid-game and try to secure side objectives. Avoid grouping if possible.
Use your strong duelling potential in the mid-game to fight and duel anyone who tries to stop you from split pushing.
Although you’re a really strong split pusher in the mid-game, be prepared to group with your team and fight 5v5. You should usually start grouping when there are no nearby objectives to take.

Do not fight in the late game unless your Ultimate R is up. It is crucial that you only commit or look for fights when it is available as you’re going to miss out on a lot of potential kill pressure.
Your Ultimate R will be on a shorter cooldown in the later stages of the game. If you can find an opportunity to do so, use it to catch out someone who is isolated and alone, too far forward or way out of position.
Peel for your carries to keep them alive for longer. If your allies die quickly, there will be little chance that you will win the team fight.
Mordekaiser will take some time to be really overpowering in the lane, so he will need to play safely for that duration. Conserving health is the way to go.
Level 6 is a massive spike for Mordekaiser as he can now use his Ultimate R and 1 v 1 anyone he desires.
The first item component will allow him to fight more efficiently. His damage will be pretty significant as well.
Multiple items during this phase of the game will allow him to fight enemies effectively. His damage will be pretty significant now.
Another point in his Ultimate R will make him have a lot of pick potential. He can easily lurk around the map and 1 v 1 squishy targets.
His first ability will be maxed out at level 9. It will grant him increased damage and survivability, and now he will be a massive threat to the enemy team.
Another point in his Ultimate R will allow him to 1 v 1 target quite frequently. He should be able to secure picks even now.
He is pretty decent during late-game fights, as his AoE abilities will hurt a lot. His survivability is quite appreciable as well.
His tankiness will be massive during this phase of the game. He should be focused on absorbing a lot of damage for the enemy team while simultaneously picking off enemies when possible.
