Cho’Gath has almost unlimited sustain thanks to his Passive in lane. Just make sure you land the last hit on minions so you get the health back!
His Q has a very large range. This makes it easier for him to land and CC. The only problem is that it can be difficult for him to land it against champions with dashes or escape tools.
Cho’Gath is a strong scaler with a versatile build path. This means that he is great in the later stages of the game regardless of how ahead or behind he was in the earlier stages of the game.
Cho’Gath can easily get kited by ADCs and champions with dashes in team fights. This makes it hard for him to catch out mobile champions.
If Cho’Gath decides to use his Ultimate R on a minion, he has to wait a long time for it to come back up. When it’s on cooldown as well, he misses out on a lot of potential true damage.
Cho’Gath is quite weak in lane depending on the matchup he is in. He is really weak against champions with strong early games.
0 - 15 min
Play safe in the early game. Cho’Gath needs time to scale and come online. Avoid fighting if possible.
Keep the wave closer to your side of the map early. This will make the laning phase so much safer.
Avoid trading with the enemy if possible. Even though you have good sustain, you can easily die if you try to fight in the first few levels. If the enemy tries to play aggressive, W them and fall back to safety.
15 - 25 min
When your team isn’t grouping or looking to fight, split push and farm up a storm in the side lane.
Look for picks when you’re grouped with your team with your W and Q. After catching someone out, make the call for Baron.
Secure objectives like the Dragon or Baron with your Ultimate R. If a major objective is up, hold off from using your Ultimate R to secure objectives. Additionally, avoid team fighting unless your Ultimate R is up as it deals tons of damage.
25+ min
Stick with your team in the late game. Do not split up or walk away from them otherwise the enemy may try to pick you off or initiate a 4v5 fight when you’re away from your team.
Use your Q to initiate a fight or try to pick someone off with it and then kill them. Once they’re dead, either move to Baron or the Elder Dragon or siege and try to end the game.
Make the call for objectives like the Baron or Elder Dragon when an enemy is dead and when your Ultimate R is up. Use your Ultimate R to secure the objective for your team.
After Cho’Gath has put multiple points in his E, he will be able to trade more effectively with the enemy. Combined with some of his other power spikes we will discuss, he can start to out-trade many enemy champions.
Cho’Gath cannot trade too well until after his first back. When he picks up his first component item, trading becomes much easier for him as his damage and survivability increases.
At level 6, Cho’Gath’s kill pressure intensifies as he can execute an enemy champion if they overextend. Even if he cannot kill them, he can still put his Ultimate R to good use.
At level 9, Cho’Gath will max out his E. This is a good power spike for him as it will allow him to trade more effectively with the enemy laner.
When he puts 2 points in his Ultimate R at level 11, his kill pressure intensifies dramatically as his Ultimate R will allow him to execute an enemy from higher health.
During the mid-game, Cho’gath should’ve used his Ultimate R on minions or enemy champions. He will be stronger and stronger the more things he consumes.
The longer the game goes, the more stacks Cho’Gath will have. This makes him quite strong in the late game.
When he hits level 16, Cho’Gath will put the third and final point in his Ultimate R. He will be able to easily bite down on and execute enemies who are caught out of position by his team.
Depending on his build path, Cho’Gath will either deal a lot of damage in late game fights or be incredibly tanky.
