Valheim, the open world survival crafter that took the internet by storm a few years back, is officially entering 1.0! The update launches on September 9th 2026, and will seek to overhaul the game in a variety of extremely meaningful ways! Today, we're going to go over some tips you might want to know before hopping in.
Overview
New Deep North Biome
Despite 1.0 bringing with it a multitude of changes, by far the most eye-catching one is the Deep North. This frosty tundra is definitely the more chill biome (no pun intended) as opposed to the Ashlands, which is known for being extremely deadly. That does not however mean the North will always be free of risk. One feature in particular that makes this biome unique is the environmental hazard the snow possesses.

The developers have stated that depending on where you build in this area of your world, you'll find yourself needing to clean up piled snow. This is made possible now with the new snow shovel item, helping your home feel a little more tidy.
Outside of the more simple nuisances like snow, you'll also be tackling a brand new boss, among other unexpected challenges like the plentiful icy lakes in the region. They'll serve as a form of transportation, allowing you to slip and slide across them to make traversing a little faster. This obviously isn't always going to be a good thing however, as you may just find yourself sliding into the wrong place, at the wrong time...
Should You Start A New World?
With the inclusion of a brand new biome set to hit the game when 1.0 releases, you may be left pondering the question of "should I be starting over?" - Well luckily, we have you covered on all you need to know before it drops.
The answer to this question is going to depend on many factors, but here are the most important things to know about the Deep North and the rest of the 1.0 Update:
- Your world can still generate the new biome, but only in unexplored regions of your world
- Achievements asking for a specific amount of stats tracked will start from scratch. Metrics from your current save will not contribute, you'll need to start over
- Cheated saves will prevent achievements from being unlockable, including dev commands such as "spawn" - The same applies to characters who have used cheats prior to 1.0
- If you have not used cheats, your current save will still work as normal with no issues

The Game Is Upping In Price
This may come as an unexpected shock to most players, but with Valheim officially leaving early access the devs have also confirmed the old price is leaving with it. The new price for Valheim on Steam will officially be $29.99, as opposed to the prior $19.99 price tag.

The reason cited for this is rather simple, being that the developers feel with the game being a "full" package, it needs to be sold at a full price. One thing to keep in mind however, is that the mentioned price change is region specific, meaning Steam's price adjustments based on where you live will lead to the price differing.

Is 1.0 The Final Major Update?
A question posed to the developers a little while ago was targeted at the future of Valheim after the 1.0 launch. More specifically, they inquired about any future major updates that were planned for the game.
Answering back, the developers made it clear that while the game will continue to receive bug fixes and quality of life changes, it was simply "too soon" to say whether or not they will be adding any more content to Valheim in the future.

This is certainly disappointing for many fans, who no doubt would love to see more content updates come to the game. Regardless of what happens, the developers mentioned that any news in relation to content updates will be posted through their official channels
No Mod Support, Yet
Lastly, many players jumping in to 1.0 will no doubt be looking to install their favorite quality of life mods right away. The developers stated recently that while this may be a goal for many, no promises can be made on what mods will or will not work at launch.

This is simply because mods are not officially supported on Valheim, and as such the team cannot guarantee the functionality of any currently working mods within 1.0. As such, the responsibility for ensuring mods function will, as always, fall on the shoulders of the mod creators, who will no doubt be working around the clock to get their content compatible with everything 1.0 brings!
