Overview

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis reimagines Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure, bringing her search for the Scion back with rebuilt environments, redesigned puzzles, and expanded traversal and combat.

This single player adventure takes Lara through the jungles of Peru, ancient Greek ruins, and Egyptian deserts. Along the way, players will navigate dangerous tombs, uncover hidden secrets, and face predators and mercenaries, with an expanded story connecting Lara’s debut to her later adventures.

Here’s everything confirmed so far, including the release date, platforms, story, and features.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Release Date and Platforms

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches on February 12, 2027, as covered in our June 2026 PlayStation State of Play roundup.

The confirmed platforms are:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC through Steam
  • Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 is included in the simultaneous launch. Digital preorders have opened for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

PlayStation’s announcement lists a regional release date of February 13 for Japan, other Asian regions, Australia, and New Zealand.

Lara’s Search for the Scion

Lara’s adventure centres on recovering the scattered pieces of the Scion, a powerful artefact tied to the lost secrets of Atlantis.

Legacy of Atlantis revisits the original story while expanding its connections to Lara’s future. Jacqueline Natla returns as a central figure: the head of Natla Technologies, whose determination and beliefs bring her into conflict with Lara.

Alix Wilton Regan plays Lara Croft, while Adrienne Wilkinson plays Natla. The relationship between the two women forms a central part of the story.

Explore Rebuilt Classic Locations

The adventure takes Lara through the jungles of Peru, ancient Greek ruins, Egyptian deserts, and a mysterious island in the Mediterranean.

These locations have been rebuilt with expanded environments and revised routes. In Peru’s Lost Valley, areas that were previously separate have been brought together into larger, more connected spaces, giving players different directions to explore.

Secrets, collectibles, and resources provide reasons to investigate beyond the main route. Familiar challenges have also been adapted to the new environments, including the Lost Valley’s cog puzzle.

Traversal Tools and Resource Gathering

Lara can jump, sprint, climb, and scramble up walls, with acrobatic movements helping her navigate the ruins.

Her grapple has several uses throughout the adventure. Alongside ascending and rappelling, it can manipulate objects and help solve environmental puzzles, connecting traversal with the mechanisms found inside tombs.

Exploration also provides resources. Lara can gather ingredients to prepare dishes that offer benefits or make healing tonics, giving supplies found along the way a practical role.

Redesigned Puzzles and Optional Hints

Puzzles involve mechanisms such as water systems, redirected light beams, pressure plates, and symbols. Some require missing components, while others depend on finding the right viewpoint or understanding how different parts of the environment connect.

One confirmed Lost Valley puzzle uses Quipu, the Incan system of knotted cords. Players must identify a pattern and reproduce it using levers, paying attention to the differences between the knots.

Lara’s narration can provide guidance, and an optional scanner offers additional hints. Players can also adjust puzzle difficulty separately from combat difficulty, allowing each part of the adventure to be tuned independently.

Acrobatic Combat and Focus Mode

Lara’s signature dual pistols return, alongside other weapons obtained during the adventure.

Combat combines shooting with movement and acrobatics. Performing acrobatic actions builds Focus, with successful dodges providing additional rewards. Focus mode slows time during an acrobatic maneuvers, allowing Lara to aim and fire while moving.

Different enemies bring different behaviours:

  • Mercenaries use complementary weapons and tactics, with rifle users applying pressure, shotgun enemies closing the distance, and snipers attacking from farther away.
  • Leopards hide before ambushing Lara.
  • Crocodiles can drag her underwater.
  • Wolves and raptors operate in groups, with the last surviving member becoming more aggressive.

The T. rex also returns, with an escape sequence that puts Lara’s traversal abilities to use.
