Overview

Minecraft Dungeons is returning with a larger world, deeper equipment system, new quests, unfamiliar enemies, and more ways to play cooperatively.

Officially titled Minecraft Dungeons II, the sequel replaces the original game’s separate mission structure with large, interconnected regions spread across the Overworld and a mysterious new dimension called the Sift.

Players can explore alone or form a party of up to four heroes through couch co-op, online cross-play, matchmaking, and mixed local and online multiplayer.

Here is everything officially confirmed for Minecraft Dungeons II.

Minecraft Dungeons II Release Date and Platforms

Minecraft Dungeons II releases on September 29, 2026.

The game will be available on:

  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC through the Xbox app
  • Steam
  • PlayStation 5
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Nintendo Switch 2
  • Xbox Cloud Gaming

Minecraft Dungeons II will also be included with Game Pass and support Xbox Play Anywhere. This allows players who purchase the Xbox version to play on supported Xbox consoles and PC without buying the game twice.

A New Adventure Across Two Worlds

Minecraft Dungeons II follows a new threat causing disorder across the world.

The story takes players across the familiar Overworld and an entirely new dimension called the Sift. Mojang describes the Sift as an uncharted world containing unfamiliar landscapes, mysteries, and dangerous threats.

Players will travel through both dimensions while investigating the strange events affecting their inhabitants and attempting to stop a new evil from causing further chaos.

Explore an Interconnected World

The first Minecraft Dungeons used a mission selection table that transported players into separate levels. Minecraft Dungeons II replaces this with a more connected world.

Players can travel seamlessly across large regions containing settlements, structures, narrative events, fast travel locations, and other points of interest.

Caves and forgotten ruins can also appear throughout the world, with layouts that may change between visits.

A world map helps players navigate each region and locate available activities. During multiplayer, heroes can also teleport to a nearby party member if the group becomes separated.

Complete Main Quests and Side Quests

Minecraft Dungeons II divides its quests into two categories: main quests and side quests.

Main quests progress the story surrounding the Overworld, the Sift, and the strange events connecting the two dimensions.

Side quests provide smaller adventures involving characters and creatures encountered while exploring. Mojang has revealed examples ranging from recovering a beekeeper’s missing bees to pursuing the Twisted Warden.

Completing quests can reward players with experience and equipment to use during future encounters.

The Equipment System Has Been Expanded

Minecraft Dungeons II significantly expands the equipment system from the original game.

Heroes now have 12 combat slots instead of six, providing more room to create specialised builds.

Armour is no longer equipped as a single item. It has been separated into four individual slots:

  • Helmet
  • Chestplate
  • Leggings
  • Boots

Players can also equip a melee weapon, ranged weapon, and three Artifacts. Artifacts provide active abilities that can be used during combat.

Talismans are another new equipment category. Heroes can equip three Talismans, which provide passive bonuses and additional ways to customise a build.

Equipment can also appear with random effects, meaning two copies of the same item may provide different benefits.

Ranged Weapons Have Unlimited Ammunition

Projectile weapons no longer rely on a limited supply of ammunition.

Ammunition is unlimited in Minecraft Dungeons II and automatically replenishes over time, removing the need to collect additional arrows during missions.

A More Flexible Enchanting System

Enchanting returns in Minecraft Dungeons II with several major changes.

Players can discover Enchantment Books while exploring. Each book contains an enchantment that is added to the player’s personal library.

Collected enchantments can then be applied to an equipment slot through the Enchantsmith. This gives players more control over their builds instead of forcing them to rely entirely on the enchantments already attached to newly discovered loot.

Enchantments can also be upgraded and levelled over time, allowing players to continue improving their preferred builds as they progress.

Using the Enchantsmith requires currency dropped by the new Soul Corrupted enemies.

Upgrade Equipment at the Blacksmith

The Blacksmith allows players to continue using equipment they enjoy instead of immediately replacing it with every higher level item they discover.

Any owned piece of equipment can be upgraded to the highest power level currently available to the player by paying the required fee.

The Blacksmith can also reroll an item’s built in effect, giving players another opportunity to improve equipment that does not initially have the right bonus for their build.

You Can Finally Jump

Jumping is a new movement option in Minecraft Dungeons II.

Heroes can jump while exploring, allowing them to cross gaps, reach hidden treasure, and complete platforming sections.

Jumping also has a combat purpose. Players can attack from above and use the additional movement to approach enemies in different ways.

The dodge roll from the original game remains available, giving heroes more movement options both inside and outside combat.

Four-Player Co-op, Cross-Play, and Matchmaking

Minecraft Dungeons II can be completed alone or with a party of up to four players.

The game supports:

  • Local couch co-op
  • Online cross-play
  • Mixed local and online co-op
  • Online matchmaking
  • Party codes

Mixed co-op allows multiple players using the same console or PC to join additional players online.

Matchmaking is also new to the sequel. Players can search for other heroes looking for a party instead of being limited to people already on their friends list.

New Enemies and Bosses

The Overworld and the Sift introduce new mobs and major encounters.

Mojang has confirmed the Twisted Warden, which players will pursue during one of the game’s quests. Xbox has also revealed the Copper Monstrosity as a new boss.

Players will encounter Soul Corrupted enemies as well. These enemies drop the currency required to use the Enchantsmith.

Mojang has not yet published the complete list of enemies and bosses appearing in Minecraft Dungeons II.

What Is New in Minecraft Dungeons II?

Minecraft Dungeons II keeps the accessible dungeon crawling combat of the original while expanding many of its most important systems.

The interconnected world, two dimensions, main and side quests, additional equipment slots, Talismans, improved enchanting, unlimited ammunition, jumping, matchmaking, and mixed co-op give players more options while exploring and creating builds.

Minecraft Dungeons II releases on September 29, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
