Use your favourite features in-game with our Desktop AppScrap Mechanic just received the 1.0 Update, and with that comes a whole new wave of beginner mechanics looking to build wacky contraptions! In this guide, we'll go over some Must Know Tips for new players, to make your time in the world that much easier.

The more you add to a base, the more expensive it will be to not only build, but to maintain. Early on, this will completely slow down your progression. Simple things like some storage and a refinery is perfectly okay for your first couple of hours in the game as you get your bearings.
Don't focus on building a mansion. Instead, set your sights outward, as the world of Scrap Mechanic will require your full attention. Once you've got a farm set up, and a comfortable arsenal of weapons and vehicles, then you can begin your homeowner renovation plan.
Assuming you're playing in Survival mode, a major change with 1.0 is that food and drink are no longer a huge part of your ability to stay alive. In previous versions, you'd need to ensure you're eating and drinking frequently in order to not die.
This isn't the case anymore for good reason. Now you can focus on the stuff in the game that actually matters like practicing your engineering skills, and use food for more inventive purposes. Think of food/drink as a form of healing in the game.
Eating food like Burgers now also give you a random buff until you are knocked out. These include benefits such as hammer speed, or even a higher maximum HP threshold. Just some... Food for thought.
Unlocking the Mech Station in your game allows better items to be crafted, and it's also a free bed, which may be of use to you early on as it can serve as a spawn point. If you're struggling to find it, be aware that it will light up at night, so look out for the glowing building!
When you initially come across the Mech Station, you'll need a battery to restore it. This can be found in the surrounding area. Once picked up, it will need to be placed down so the building can get electricity back. Once done, you've got a place to stay, which will open avenues for you as a new player, especially handy for those jumping into the game for the first time with 1.0.
In a game where you are quite literally making wonders out of simple scrap, don't let what you see as trash become someone else's treasure. Things like scrap metal, chemicals, component kits and more are all very valuable to your progression in the game both when starting out, and later on.
When you find something, pick it up and take it back to your base of choosing so your'e prepared for whichever crafting assignment needs your attention next.
This strategy is made even better if you have a cargo vehicle with you, as it can be used to haul said loot around instead of breaking your own back just to transport it all the way home. This goes hand in hand with our next tip, which is...
In Scrap Mechanic, you will be building and tearing down vehicles constantly. It's the entire point of the game. Thinking that when you start out you'll instantly have the means and the vision to build your forever vehicle is just flat out incorrect.
Make something simple like a little cargo buggy as soon as you can, and put your main focus on progression. Your amazing builds will most definitely come with time, but focusing on them from the get go will only cause you to lose it.
Your own personal sanctuary is an integral part of Scrap Mechanic, as it's not only your home, but also your workshop. For this reason, make sure that if possible you are building your base in a location with easy access to trees, water, and ideally a large open space.
While a massive mountain might seem ideal at first, having a wide and flat open area can really help for testing out your new builds. Of course, using your own discretion when settling down is always going to be your best bet, but try to exercise some caution before hunkering down.
Added with the 1.0 update, the Seekerbot is a large patrolling robot that scans roads in the world. If caught by the red scanning zone visible beneath the bot, the player will be viciously attacked with heat seeker missiles.
Considering these robots patrol roads almost exclusively, it's important to note that you do not place your base near any roads. These bots are extremely dangerous, and some players have even reported having their bases entirely burned down by the wrath of the Seekerbot.

Provided you do get caught by one, try to hide behind large structures in order to break the line of sight. An added tip to beware of though, is that if a Woc is spotted by the Seekerbot and happens to run to your base, the Seekerbot may end up destroying your structures as collateral damage. This is why as we mentioned previously, being aware of where you hunker down is a must in the new update.
