Overview

With the launch of the Y11S2, Ubisoft launched an update to their ranking system, called Ranked 3.0. In this article we will go over major updates to the Ranked 3.0, as well as updates to this system introduced in the Y11S3.

Ranked 3.0 Changes

Ranked 3.0 brought a lot of changes to how competitive matchmaking works in R6S. Here is an overview of the most important stuff you need to know.

Biggest Highlights Of Ranked 3.0:

  • Soft rank reset every season - Each season starts with the first 5 matches being placement matches in which you will earn extra rank points, your squad has no restrictions, and your starting rank is given to you after placements.
  • MRR removal - Now your skill is your rank. Rank Points depend on match outcome and how your team’s rank compares to the enemy team’s rank. A Demotion Shield that prevents you from dropping down a rank or division after a loss is still present.
  • Team rank is an average squad rank - Weighted toward higher-ranked players if the rank gap is large enough. Beating a team that is higher ranked means you get more Rank Points; however, losing to a team with a lower average rank, means you lose more Points.
  • Squad restrictions - For most players squad restrictions are 3 full ranks, meaning that someone from Gold 5 can play a match up with someone who is Copper 5. This is a feature available to Emerald players as well, because as soon as you reach Diamond or Champion, you are restricted to 2 full ranks. What it means is that Diamond 5 can only squad with players from Platinum 5 up through Champion 1.
  • Map Ban Phase - Changed to offer 5 maps; 3 from pro pool, and 2 from seasonal pool, with new maps being prevented from being banned during the whole season, and appearing in every Ban Phase until the midseason patch.
  • Reward track - Each match earns progress on a Reward Track, with win being 2 steps, and loss being 1 step. You get one reward every 10 steps, those include charms, backgrounds, Alpha Packs, seasonal headgear, and competitive coins.

Adjustments To Ranked 3.0

With Y11S3, Ubisoft is introducing some changes to the current Ranked 3.0 formula. The following is an outline of the major adjustments Y11S3 is bringing.

What changes with Ranked 3.0 in the Y11S3

  • Placement Matches - Now offer +100 Rank Points per win and -50 Rank Points per loss, meaning that the five games you play at the beginning of the season are even more consequential. Now, you can play with opponents up to 7.5 divisions apart from your squad’s average in the Placement matches.
  • Soft Reset - When the season 3 launches, most players will see that their rank has dropped by 300 Rank Points, with Top Champions being reset directly to Emerald 3 instead of a lower tier, giving them an equal opportunity to fight their way up to the top.
  • Rank Points - Winning now has increases your Rank Points from 25 to 30 - a 20% boost that helps the players rise through the ranks. This being combined with the placement changes makes for bigger rank swings throughout the season with a faster climb to your true skill level. With this change, more players are expected to reach Gold, Platinum, and Emerald compared to previous seasons, making rank distribution more healthy overall.
  • Squad restrictions - Now Emerald + Platinum/Gold squads can no longer queue into Champion lobbies, which previously could occur when high-rank players exploited squad average rank. This change will lead to less reliance on Emerald player to full Champion-Rank matches, resulting in more balanced games at the top.
  • New “Legend Division” - Is being introduced as a rank during midseason. It serves as a rank above the Champion, with some very specific requirements.
