Overview

Palworld is an immersive RPG with several systems and features involved in the core gameplay loop, like Base Building, assigning your Pals to work on different stations based on their characteristics, exploration, combat, and much more.

Some players might find that the game is missing Quality of Life features, or wish that there were extra options to tailor their playthrough to their needs. That's where Mods come in: They are fan-made content that change or add existing features in the game to make it more complete, accessible, and tailor-made for a wide array of players, from newcomers to experts who want to know everything going on in the game.

In this article, you'll find everything you need to know about Mods in Palworld: Where to get them, how to install them, and a curated list of the best and most popular general-use mods currently available.

How to Get Palworld Mods

Palworld Mods are published on specific websites, such as the Steam Workshop, Nexusmods, and Curseforge. These sites act as forums where users upload their mods for others to browse and download. You might need to create an account to download mods on these websites.

Are Mods Safe?

For the most part, yes, Palworld mods are safe to use. They're created by users, so things might not always work as expected. To make sure that modding experience is as smooth as possible, follow these steps:

  1. Make a Backup of your save files before playing with mods. You can find your Steam saves in the folder %appdata%/Local/Pal/Save/Savegames. Make a copy of the folder and store it in a different location.
  2. Mods often break after game updates. When a new update comes out, most mods will need updates tailored to the new game version, and you'll need to reinstall them. After an update, it is safe to uninstall mods until they support the newer version.
  3. Some mods might not be compatible or might not work in multiplayer. Carefully read each mod's description to avoid compatibility issues.

Best Palworld Mods

We have curated a list of some of the best Palworld mods, which have received great feedback from players.

Pre-Requisite: UE4SS

UE4SS (Unreal Engine 4/5 Scripting System) is a pre-requisite for installing most mods. It acts as a "support" that allows mods to modify in-game files seamlessly. Download UE4SS from the GitHub site by scrolling all the way down until you find "Assets", and then click on "UE4SS_v{...}.zip"

Then, find your game directory folder:

  • Steam: Find Palworld in your Library and click on Manage > Browse Local Files. Then go to "Pal" Folder > Go to "Binaries" folder > Go to "Win64" folder, and extract or copy the UE4SS .zip file contents in there.
  • Xbox PC App: Find Palworld in your Library and click on the three dots (...) "More Actions for Palworld" > Manage > Files > Browse. Then go to "Palworld" folder > Go to "Content" folder > Go to "Pal" Folder > Go to "Binaries" folder > Go to "WinGDK" folder, and extract or copy the UE4SS .zip file contents in there.

After installing UE4SS, your Win64 / WinGDK folder should look similar to this:

Most mods can be installed by copying their contents into the "Mods" folder inside Win64 / WinGDK.

Pal Analyzer

This Mod displays information about the Pals on screen when you press Left Alt on a Keyboard or Right Bumper on a Controller. The Stats shown are progressively unlocked as you catch more Pals of the same species. It has an in-game settings menu that you can open with Shift + O to configure how much information is displayed. The progression system implemented and the UI make this mod bend seamlessly into the game, making it a great Quality of Life improvement.

Less Restrictive Building

As its name indicates, this Mod removes many of the default building restrictions in Palworld, allowing you to build floating structures, place objects on steep terrain, or make multiple items overlap. This Mod elevates the building possibilities of Palworld, making your creativity the only limit.

Map Unlocker

This Mod eliminates the Fog surrounding the Map, allowing you to see the full World Map as soon as you start the game. However, it does not unlock Fast Travel Points or other information - You'll have to play through the game to unlock everything else normally.

Seeing the whole map can be attractive for players who are looking for a certain destination in mind: Searching for Fire Pals? That volcanic area is sure to host several of them! It can also help you spot points of interest from afar, without the fog getting in your way.

Carry Weight Increase

If you struggle with inventory management due to the game's innate carrying capacity limit, this mod is for you. It will increase the weight you can carry by default to 1,000. This will help you explore and fetch materials without worrying about running out of carry capacity and having to run back to your base.

Fast Travel From Anywhere

If you've wished you could Fast Travel from the Map screen, this Mod is for you. It unlocks the ability to travel to Fast Travel Points no matter where you are. You can even Fast Travel inside dungeons or while flying.

Note that you still have to unlock Fast Travel Points manually before you can use them.

Basic Mini Map

Palworld doesn't have a mini map displayed on the screen by default, and this Mod adds exactly that. You can configure the map's position on the screen, the option to hide it during battles, and even zoom in when you're in enclosed spaces like caves and dungeons.

Better Night Light

This Mod drastically changes the lighting at night, implementing moonlight and a more curated lighting overall. It also makes the night sky more vivid by increasing the brightness of stars, and changes the lighting during sunrise and sunset for a more visually attractive transition.

Show Pal IVs

IVs are hidden stats that all Pals have, and dictate how strong their HP, Attack and Defense are related to other Pals of the same species. This Mod shows IVs on the Pal screen, which can range from 0 to 100. Having a maximum (100) IV on a stat will increase it by 30%.
