Solo Parry Mercenary Build – Mistfall Hunter

By Oli
Updated on Aug 17, 2026
Aug 17, 2026

Overview

Parry Mercenary is one of the strongest Solo classes following the recent balance changes. The build is naturally powerful against melee opponents, while Shield Dash, Whirling Cut and Hammer Dash provide the mobility needed to pressure more difficult ranged matchups.

The recommended build keeps Sword and Shield equipped for most of the fight. The Hammer should only be brought out when you have a clear opportunity to use Hammer Dash or catch someone with Warhammer Sling.

Made in collaboration with Swanifier. Check out his video for more information and demonstrations of this build!

Affixes

Purple Loadout

  • Aegis 5 – Improves your Defense and Physical Resistance, helping you survive while closing the distance or waiting for a parry opportunity.

  • Tenacious 5 – Increases your Maximum Health and improves incoming Healing, giving you more staying power during extended Solo fights.

  • Stoic 5 – Provides additional Physical and Magic Resistance at low Health, alongside an emergency heal when your Health becomes dangerously low.

  • Valor 5 – Increases your Attack while also providing Defense Penetration, ensuring the build remains threatening despite its defensive investment.

  • Fervor 5 – Consecutive hits build additional Physical and Magic Damage. Maintaining enough stacks also provides extra Defense Penetration.

  • Vitality 4 – Increases your Maximum Energy and provides protection against Energy Overdraft, helping support repeated skills and dodges.

  • Elusive 3 – Reduces the Energy cost of dodging, making it easier to maintain pressure without exhausting your resources.

Victory Wine:

Tenacious +2 Stoic +2 Vitality +2 Elusive +2

Before drinking Victory Wine, the equipment provides Aegis 5, Tenacious 3, Stoic 3, Valor 5, Fervor 5, Vitality 2 and Elusive 1. The additional points complete the build’s important defensive and Energy breakpoints.

Green Loadout

Level 1 Victory Wine:

Aegis +1 Stoic +1

This provides an inexpensive defensive foundation while progressing toward the higher rarity setups.

Blue Loadout

Level 3 Victory Wine:

Valor +2 Stoic +1 Vitality +1 Elusive +2

This improves your damage while adding the survivability and Energy management needed to stay aggressive.

Legendary Loadout

Level 4 Victory Wine:

Tenacious +1 Stoic +1 Aegis +1 Fervor +1 Strife+2 Resilience +1 Elusive +1

The Legendary setup adds more offensive pressure through Strife while retaining the defensive affixes needed for Solo fights.

Skills

Mercenary can equip two Sword and Shield skills alongside two Hammer skills. There are three versions of this setup, but the Hammer skills remain the same across all three.

Recommended Solo Build

Sword and Shield:

  • Shield Dash
  • Whirling Cut

Shield Dash is your main gap closer and one of the most important parts of the build. With both of its talents, it can Stun enemies who damage you during the animation and confirm two attacks when both parts of Shield Dash connect.

Whirling Cut provides another powerful gap closer when combined with Fearless. This makes the recommended version much stronger against ranged opponents who would otherwise try to keep their distance.

Hammer:

  • Hammer Dash
  • Warhammer Sling

Hammer Dash gives you a third long range gap closer. Its Dash enhancement increases the distance travelled and only requires one Talent point.

Warhammer Sling throws a rock after a deceptive Hammer animation. Opponents often dodge early because they expect an immediate Hammer attack, forcing them to dodge again or get caught by the delayed rock. It also requires no Talent investment.

Shield Slam Build

Sword and Shield:

  • Shield Dash
  • Shield Slam

Shield Slam allows you to perform a true combo after successfully staggering someone with a parry. However, Resilience and Iron Helmet can counter the setup, making it less reliable than the recommended build.

After parrying:

  1. Continue holding block.
  2. Perform a charged basic attack.
  3. Use Shield Slam while looking directly down.
  4. Swap to the Hammer.
  5. Jump and perform a Hammer heavy attack.

This version is fun when the combo works, but it is more matchup dependent.

Stonebreaker Slash Build

Sword and Shield:

  • Shield Dash
  • Stonebreaker Slash

Stonebreaker Slash is strongest against melee opponents. With Stonebreaker Counter, it can be activated while you are being staggered, replacing your special recovery and allowing you to reverse an enemy’s stagger combo.

However, Stonebreaker Slash has a long recovery animation and does not confirm any additional attacks. Since parry Mercenary is already strong into melee classes, this version makes its difficult ranged matchups even worse.

Talents

  • Shield Buildup – Shield attacks generate Shield Pressure, with six stacks granting Momentum. You can consume Momentum to unleash a Shockwave Strike after building your shield.
  • Perfect Defense – Creates a short Perfect Block window after blocking. Successfully timing the parry immediately grants Momentum and opens an opportunity to counterattack.
  • Block Damage Boost – Perfect Blocks grant a shield alongside increased Movement Speed and damage. These bonuses have a cooldown, but you can continue landing Perfect Blocks as long as you have enough Stamina.
  • Fearless – Turns Whirling Cut into another long distance gap closer. Combined with Shield Dash and Hammer Dash, ranged opponents will find it extremely difficult to escape.
  • Rising to the ChallengeShield Dash Stuns an enemy if you block damage during its animation, creating a reliable opening for your follow-up attacks.
  • Absolute Punishment – Connecting the final hit of Shield Dash reduces its remaining cooldown, allowing you to chase enemies and maintain pressure more consistently.
  • Dash – Increases the distance travelled by Hammer Dash, giving the build a third powerful gap closer.
  • Indomitable Will – Generates defensive stacks as you take attacks. This gives the build the required way to build Indomitable Will without investing in Resilient Body or Sturdy Shield.

For the Shield Slam build, replace Fearless and Dash with Bounce andRaging Earth Shake.

For the Stonebreaker Slash build, replace Fearless with Stonebreaker Counter, with the option to replace Dash with Feral Attack.

Tips & Tricks

  • Stay on Sword and Shield most of the time. Your parry is the build’s main defensive tool, so only swap to the Hammer when you have a clear Hammer Dash, Warhammer Sling or combo opportunity.
  • Use all three gap closers against ranged classes. Shield Dash, Whirling Cut with Fearless and the enhanced Hammer Dash make it extremely difficult for opponents to maintain distance.
  • Do not confuse the parry bonus cooldown with the parry itself. The Movement Speed, shield and damage bonuses have a cooldown, but you can continue landing perfect parries for as long as you have enough Stamina.
  • Use Warhammer Sling to bait dodges. The initial animation can make enemies dodge before the rock is released, forcing another dodge or allowing the delayed projectile to catch them.
  • Only attempt the Shield Slam combo when the parry staggers. Resilience and Iron Helmet can prevent the setup from working, so check the opponent’s affixes before repeatedly committing to it.
