Build Overview

The Blizzard Hailstorm Sorcerer build litters the screen with a massive area of icy devastation. Blizzard is a strong, sturdy, and reliable build with great boss damage.

You can pump out an incredible amount of damage by stacking Blizzard's in one location and hammering enemies with Glacial Aspect ice spikes. These spikes do all the damage of the build and are technically a Frost Skill. The build utilizes ice spike specific aspects such as Aspect of the Frozen Wake and Aspect of the Frozen Tundra to juice up the spike damage.

It's strength also creates a glaring weakness. Blizzard takes 12 seconds to reach max DPS by casting Mage's Blizzard in one location. This can be an issue in high tier pits if enemies want to move around. However for general content just a cast or two is enough to kill most enemies.

You can litter the screen with Blizzard's and keep moving. Your pet should pick up most materials left in your wake. Ancestral Legendary items that drop will appear on your mini map. If you happen to miss one or two, they will simply go to your stash after the activity completes.

Enchantments

  • Frozen Orb enchant makes enemies vulnerable for 20% more damage with Greater Frozen Orb
  • Ice Blades enchant for 60% attack speed with Invoked Ice Blades
    • You can have a maximum of three Ice Blades from casting off the skill bar
    • Separately, you can have another three Ice Blades from the enchantment
  • Note: Frost Bolt is never casted, it is bar space filler for Elemental Synergies

Free Enchantments from Orsivane

  • Orsivane grants the enchantments of defensive skills that are NOT on the skill bar
  • Teleport enchant for a Mystical Teleport evade on a 3.5 second cooldown with Enchantment Master that creates crackling energy for Convulsions
  • Ice Armor enchant for a Mystical Ice Armor when you press potion
  • Frost Nova enchant that will proc Mystical Frost Nova on lucky hits
  • Flame Shield enchant that gives you a Flame Shield when you take 30% health damage within 2 seconds. The enchant then goes on cooldown for 30 seconds.

Aspects

  • Glacial Aspect, Aspect of the Frozen Wake, Aspect of the Frozen Tundra, and Aspect of Frozen Memories are mandatory aspects for Blizzard
  • Aspect of the Frozen Tundra may seem odd, but increasing ice spike radius size by 50% increases damage by about 125% as more ice spikes can hit a target

The Goal is to Sanctify an aspect so you can run Blue Rose over Ring 2

  • If you are very lucky, you will get Aspect of the Frozen Wake, Aspect of the Frozen Tundra, or Aspect of Frozen Memories as an additional sanctified aspect on an item
  • This will allow you to drop Ring 2 and run Blue Rose, prioritizing Chance for Ice Spikes to Explode Twice, then Ice Spike Damage. The aspect value is irrelevant.
  • If you want to take on this endeavor when you get bored, you can probably Sanctify Blue Rose's or Orsivane's until you get a hit

    How it Plays

    All builds except Starter

    • Blizzard Main caster and damage that deals damage with Glacial Aspect
      • To be efficient, do not overcast Mage's Blizzard on one enemy pack
      • Example: If an elite pack dies in 4 casts, cast 4-6 times then start casting onto another pack
    • Unstable Currents is casted whenever of cooldown for an attack speed buff from Prime Unstable Currents.
    • No frost build actually runs Deep Freeze because after 2.5 years it is still a hot piece of garbage.
    • Lightning Spear is casted whenever off cooldown for a Protection barrier and to apply vulnerable
    • Ice Blades is casted whenever off cooldown for Invoked Ice Blades attack speed
    • Familiar is casted at least every 8 seconds for 10% damage from Invoked Familiar
    • Frost Bolt is NOT cast, it is a bar space filler for damage from Elemental Synergies

    Starter Build

    • Same general concept as the others
    • Spam Blizzard
    • UseUnstable Currents, Ice Blades, and Ice Armor whenever they are off cooldown
    • Hard cast Teleport off the skill bar for movement. Evade with Teleport enchant for movement.
      • Both forms of Teleport grant move speed with Enhanced Teleport and create crackling energy with Mystical Teleport for Convulsions
    • Flame Shield as needed for survivability

    How it Works

    General Overview

    • Blizzard uses the Glacial Aspect to make ice spikes
    • Each Blizzard you cast will spawn 2 ice spikes a second
    • Mage's Blizzard makes Blizzard last 12 seconds
    • Your max DPS is how many Blizzard's you can cast in 12 seconds
    • Aspect of the Frozen Wake increases your ice spike damage by 90%
    • Aspect of the Frozen Tundra increases the area of each ice spikes explosion radius, which increases damage by 125% (Math)
    • Aspect of Frozen Memories reduces the mana cost of Blizzard and increases damage by 60% by buffing the Avalanche key passive.
    • Blizzard is very good on stationary targets as you can just keep casting on them and stacking up ice spike spawns. It is very bad against targets that move frequently.
    • Blizzard excels in Infernal hordes where you can litter the arena with Mage's Blizzard casts
    • Blizzard excels at bossing because you can pre-cast a ton of Mage's Blizzard's at their spawn location to ramp up to max DPS at the start of the encounter

    Defense and Barriers

    • For Sorcerer: Max Life > Armor > Barrier Generation > Resist All Elements
    • Barriers created are a percentage of Max Life and you take Barrier Damage before Health Damage
    • Sorcerer's goal is to constantly have a barrier up and keep re-applying it to offset damage taken
    • Max Life is the strongest tool because it applies to our health pool and then also Temerity or Aspect of Mind's Awakening barriers

    Orsivane, the new overpowered 1H weapon

    Orsivane grants you 40% damage per defensive skill not on your skill bar and then grants you those enchantments for free. We are missing all 4 of the defensives so we get 160% damage or 2.6x damage.

    These free enchantments do not count towards Enchantment Master, only your equipped ones do.
