Exotic Trace RifleFires a Solar trace beam that creates a field of heat energy that grows as the weapon is fired. Sustained damage applies scorch to the target.
Weapon final blows with a damage type matching your grenade grant Death Throes, which provide a grenade damage bonus and grant you grenade energy. When you have Death Throes and throw a grenade, nearby allies gain greatly increased grenade regeneration for a short time.
Build Details
There are 2 main parts to Prometheus Lens.
First - it’s intrinsic trait, Prismatic Inferno, makes it so that as you continuously fire this weapon, it creates a growing solar bubble that will deal AOE damage and will apply stacks of scorch to enemies, and kills will also refund ammo to the magazine.
Second - it’s catalyst will give the weapon the incandescent perk. Meaning that defeating enemies will scorch nearby enemies, applying up to 40 stacks.
So I knew that we were getting 2 main artifact perks to buff this weapon even more. First we have Beam medic so that rapid kills will heal you and nearby allies. With that, we’re also getting Harsh Refraction. This makes it so that dealing damage with Exotic Trace Rifles against enemies that have an element matching Debuff will give it 35% more damage. Or in other words, Prometheus lens will scorch everything so it will constantly have a 35% damage buff. The important thing to note is that ignitions and scorch will deal damage based on the initial source of scorch. Prometheus Lens already amps this up by 10% but with weapon surge and radiant we can amp up this ignition damage by over 50%.
Since I knew that the main goal would be using a solar weapon, it only seemed right to bring the exotic helmet, Verity’s Brow. Now kills with solar weapons will give us stacks of Death Throes capping out at 5 stacks. These stacks will gradually decay over time, providing you with up to 100% more grenade damage and 2.5% grenade energy per second. And like with Ignitions from Prometheus Lens, these ignitions will receive that 100% damage boost, making our grenades mini nukes.
Well the main thing is to remember to keep getting kills with Prometheus Lens to keep up your Death Throes Stacks to increase your grenade damage and regen rate. Throw those grenades at large groups of enemies or tougher targets like minibosses and bosses to instantly melt them. Any time you want to melt enemies a bit quicker, simply hit an enemy with your powered melee to become radiant. I try to use my class ability sparingly since it is a main source of healing, though you can use it when your about to start an encounter to have a solar buddy at your side.
In DPS phases, pop that SoF or Well of Radiance to instantly become radiant. I like to try and enter DPS phases with at least a few stacks of Death Throes to help melt the boss, because as you can see, your grenades can deal over 400k damage. If you have enemies near the boss, you can keep scoring kills with prometheus lens to keep up your stacks and potentially throw another grenade depending on how long the DPS phase is.
