I have been absolutely Loving Bolt Charge. It feels incredibly strong and on Titan incredibly easy to use. But like with most Arc Titan builds, I had one problem, survivability. I remember last season seeing a few Insurmountable Skullfort builds going around. I wasn’t a huge fan of those on prismatic, but I thought I’d give it a try on Arc Titan and I was pleasantly surprised!
See, with Insurmountable Skullfort, when getting an Arc Powered Melee kill, you immediately get you melee refunded and start health regeneration. This is huge, especially when paired with knockout to instantly get a burst of health when killing with your melee and to buff it’s damage.
Now the problem I had with the prismatic variants, is that it solely revolved around your melee. The problem here is that if you face a mini boss or an enemy that can melt you, you need to play it a bit safer so melees are off the table. But that’s where bolt charge comes in. With the new titan aspect, storms keep, you’re offered the flexibility to deal a ton of damage at range and safe behind a barricade.
The Second encounter of the Sundered Doctrine is a prime example of how this works. At most times, you need someone running around picking up the buffs to dunk them. Well that would be me. As soon as I got low on health, Bam, start charging up my Thunderclap and instantly heal on a kill. The big problem was if you weren’t careful, you would spawn 2 miniboss orges that could absolutely melt you. So as soon as you see them spawn, you can move back, pop your barricade, and with just a primary weapon, you can start to melt them by unleashing bolt charges over and over again.
In normal content, most enemies will die with an uncharged thunderclap, so you could run around spamming your thunderclap. In harder content, I like to try and use my claps on groups of enemies and a little more sparingly. Using it on a group of enemies means it’s more likely to guarantee a kill and refund your melee. But if you run around spamming your melee, you might end up killing all the enemies around you, putting you in a tough spot. Remember your melee is how you heal, so you want to be close to at least 1 enemy at all times. That way if you get low on health, charge up that thunderclap and let it fly.
If you come across a miniboss, pop that barricade at a bit of distance and start shooting with your weapons. If you don’t have a ton of special, feel free to just use your primary since bolt charge will be dealing a ton of damage.
For DPS phases, Depending on how long it is, I like to Pop my barricade in a position that I know all my teammates will benefit from it. I then chuck a grenade to proc that Jolt and deal some extra damage. Start going to town with your weapons until your well of radiance runs out. You can then choose to hot swap to Curiass of the falling star, or immediately pop your Tcrash to deal a ton of burst damage. But in shorter DPS phases I’d pop my Tcrash before doing anything else.
