Build Details
Today, we’re taking a closer look at a powerful new Hunter build for Edge of Fate—one designed to help you survive nearly any encounter while maximizing your offensive potential.
If you’re looking to improve your survivability without sacrificing lethality, you’ll want to explore what this build offers using the standard Arc subclass alongside the Gifted Conviction exotic chest piece.
Gifted Conviction has been a strong exotic for both Arc and Prismatic subclasses, but with the new armor system changes in Edge of Fate, it has become an even more valuable piece to build around, especially regarding character stat prioritization.
Gifted Conviction: Gift of Certainty The Gift of Certainty intrinsic trait enhances Tempest Strike and Ascension by adding Arc projectiles that bounce and detonate, jolting enemies within their radius. This provides additional bonus damage while using these abilities, which are central to this build.
Critically, when you jolt enemies within 15 meters, you gain stacking damage resistance:
1st jolt: 25% resistance
2nd jolt: 40% resistance
3rd jolt: 50% resistance
These resistance bonuses stack with other damage resistance sources in your build, significantly improving your survivability.
Importantly, this resistance triggers from any source of Jolt, including Jolting Feedback and Voltshot weapons, provided you are within range. To take full advantage of this build, you will need to engage enemies up close.
Why Arc Subclass? While this exotic pairs well with both Arc and Prismatic, the Arc subclass is the ideal pairing here, as it allows you to equip both Ascension and Tempest Strike for maximum synergy.
Note: Tempest Strike is intended to work with Combination Blow but currently does not. We hope this will be addressed in a future patch.
Ability Synergies Ascension can now trigger armor mods like Dynamo, helping you generate Super energy faster.
Tempest Strike converts your powered melee into a sliding Arc attack similar to Warlock’s Lightning Surge, effective in both PvE and Crucible.
After using Tempest Strike, you gain 75% bonus damage resistance, which combines with the 50% from Gifted Conviction.
Casting Ascension jolts enemies, amplifies you for another 15% damage resistance, and, with Gambler’s Dodge, helps recharge your powered melee, enabling a sustainable ability loop.
Using multiple Focusing Strike armor mods will further increase your class ability regeneration, providing 12–20% bonus class energy after dealing melee damage.
Consecutive Tempest Strike and Ascension combos will generate Ionic Traces, which restore 15% melee, grenade, and class energy, significantly improving your ability uptime.
Fragment Choices Spark of Resistance: Grants 25% additional resistance when 3+ enemies are within 8 meters, stacking with other sources of DR.
Spark of Feedback: Provides a 75% melee damage bonus (Combination Blow/Tempest Strike) after taking damage.
Spark of Ions: Generates Ionic Traces on defeating jolted enemies (10s cooldown).
Spark of Recharge: Grants 400% grenade and melee regen when your health is low, massively increasing Tempest Strike uptime.
Spark of Shock: Causes grenades to apply Jolt, further enabling Gifted Conviction’s resistance benefits.
Using blinding grenades allows you to stun Unstoppable Champions and disable enemies while also jolting them.
Recommended Weapons Strong exotic choices include:
Delicate Tomb
Coldheart
Trinity Ghoul
Thunderlord
Graviton Spike
Monte Carlo
Centrifuse
Legendary weapons with Jolting Feedback, Voltshot, Attrition Orbs, Strategist, or Pugilist are highly beneficial:
Strategist and high class energy stats (~80) will nearly refill your dodge on each final blow.
Attrition Orbs help maintain armor charges for Surges, Fonts, and Recuperation.
Pugilist recharges melee energy, further supporting your ability loop.
Artifact Synergies Key artifact perks to consider:
Elemental Benevolence: Grants 15% class energy when applying elemental buffs to teammates, proccing when Ascension amplifies allies.
Elemental Coalescence: Generates Ionic Traces on rapid defeats.
Shield Crush: +25% grenade damage and regen when amplified, increasing Jolt and blinding grenade effectiveness.
Elemental Overdrive: +10% Arc weapon damage on Ionic Trace collection, stacking with surge mods.
If possible, incorporate Void overshields, Woven Mail, or Frost Armor to gain 50% melee damage and regen bonuses. For Frost Armor, using Stasis weapons with Chill Clip, Headstone, or Fever and Chill will help trigger it reliably.
Stat Prioritization With the focus on melee and class abilities:
Aim for 100+ class stat to maximize dodge uptime.
Push melee stat as close to 200 as possible for an additional 30% melee damage boost.
If you fall short on these stats, consider Font mods to compensate, ensuring you generate and collect Orbs of Power to keep armor charges active for consistent benefits.
Armor Sets While the new armor sets like Techsec provide interesting bonuses, no current set specifically amplifies this build. Experiment with sets you own, ensuring you wear at least two pieces for minor perks and four pieces for major perks.
This build will allow you to maintain high survivability while dishing out consistent damage in any content within Edge of Fate, from high-tier PvE activities to casual playlist grinding. By leveraging Gifted Conviction’s unique synergy with Arc subclass abilities and the new armor and artifact systems, you’ll have a Hunter build ready for any challenge Destiny 2 throws your way.
Step 1: Use Stasis/Void Weapons for Overshield/Frost Armor Step 2: Activate Tempest Strike against close range enemies Step 3: Follow up with INSTANT Ascension Step 4: Use Another Tempest Strike Step 5: Shoot something until Ascension is back Step 6: Use Grenades on Champions Step 7: Use Super on Champs/ High Value Targets Step 8: If Out of Energy... Use Arc Weapons with Volt Shot/ Jolting Feedback for Damage Resistance
