The Best Strength Weapons

Axe of Godfrey

Its Ash of War is Regal Roar, a powerful roar that increases attack power and blasts an unguardable shockwave around your character.

The armament deals only physical damage and cannot change affinity or its weapon skill. Although it’s a great weapon for pure Strength builds, it can be great in Quality builds, as it has not at all bad Dexterity scaling.

How to obtain: to get the Axe of Godfrey, you must unlock the Remembrance of Hoarah Loux (which is obtained as a reward for defeating Godfrey, the First Elden Lord) and then hand it to Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

Claymore

Claymore’s default Ash of War is Lion’s Claw, which allows you to quickly somersault in a direction and swinging downward, offering both damage and a burst mobility option. You can also change it to weapons skill of your preference. This weapons also posses one of the unqiue heavy attack animation, a piercing lunge, which can be handy in some situations, and against enemies with low resistances to pierce damage.

The best affinity for Claymore is either Heavy or Fire.

Location: to find the Claymore, head to Castle Morne. Go through the main entrance and then hug the right wall (you’ll see burning corpses with Misbegotten near them). Continue this way until you see a building toward the north where you’ll find the Claymore in a chest to the left right when you enter the building.

Greatsword

The Greatsword’s default Ash of War is Stamp (Upward Cut), which causes you to briefly brace (and prevent recoil from most enemy attacks) followed by a strong upward strike. The weapon’s skill can be changed to one of your preference, which makes it a versatile pick. We recommend to use Heavy affinity on your Greatsword.

Overall, this is a solid weapon at any stage of the game, capable of demolishing any enemy with relative ease.

Location: to find the Greatsword, head to Caelid, Dragonbarrow. Toward the North-west and within the Caelem Ruins Site of Grace, you’ll find a chest in the back of a Carriage protected by Giants Dogs. If you’re skillful (or sneaky) enough, you can obtain this weapon as early as 15 minutes into the game.

Giant-Crusher

To find the Giant-Crusher, head directly south of the Outer Wall Phantom Tree site of grace and look for a Carriage. You’ll find it inside a chest at the back of it.

The Giant-Crusher’s default Weapon Skill is Endure, which allows you to briefly boost your poise and reduce your damage taken. However, you can change the Ash of War and armament’s affinity to one of your preference. We highly recommend to use Heavy affinity, since this armament has one of the best scalings for Strength in the game.

This weapon also posseses a unique heavy attack animation – a forward somersault attack, which reminds of the Lion’s Claw Ash of War.

Nightrider Glaive

The Nightrider Glaive’s default weapon skill is Spinning Slash, which does AoE damage followed by a heavy attack. You can change it’s weapon skill and affinity to one of your preference. This armament also posses a rather unique light attacks for its class, as it slashes, rather than pierces, which can be handy in some situations.

The recommended affinity for Nightrider Glaive is either Heavy or Fire.

How to obtain: to get Nightrider Glaive, find the Night’s Cavalry boss between East Raya Lucaria Gate and Bellum Church. This enemy appears only after at night. After defeating it, you will obtain two items – Ash of War: Giant Hunt, and Nightraider Glaive.

Bolt of Gransax

Bolt of Gransax is one of the Legendary Armaments in Elden Ring. Its unique Ash of War is Ancient Lightning Spear, which allows you to charge the armament and throw it into your enemies. This makes for a great spammable, especially combined with Godfrey Icon and Shard of Alexander talismans.

Keep in mind, this weapon does additional 20% damage vs. Dragons and additional 10% damage against Ancient Dragons.

Overall, this armament lives up to the expectations, being one of the best (if not the best) Dexterity weapon in Elden Ring.

Location: this weapon can be obtained in Leyndell, Ashen Capital. Make sure to get it before defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade, because otherwise you will be locked out of it until our next playthrough. To find Bolt of Gransax, you have two methods:

1. After beating Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Golden Shade), walk out the western door of the Erdtree Sanctuary grace site. Then take the elevator down, continue down the staircase, and jump onto the giant spear. You’ll see it near the handle of the giant spear.
2. Another way is to enter Leydnell, Royal Capital without killing the Godfrey shade. Starting from the East Capital Rampart Gate grace site, head out the west door, take the southern lift, and then climb the ladder. Head southwest to the patio with two Perfumers and then jump over the railing onto a walkway below. Follow the pathway west until you reach the railing around the giant spear then make a running jump from the broken railing to the gazebo (make a running jump, note that this is difficult). If you can jump on the giant spear without falling, you’ll be able to obtain the weapon.

Hand of Malenia

The Hand of Malenia’s weapon skill is Waterfowl Dance, an incredibly flashy ability. When activated, you will dash forward up to three times doing combo slashes. Note that you have to repeat inputs to do the additional two follow-up attacks. Being a katana, it also has innate Blood loss buildup (50), but it cannot be increased.

How to obtain: to find the Hand of Malenia, naturally, first kill Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Once you obtain the Rememberance of the Rot Goddess, the weapon can be unlocked by Enia at Roundtable Hold.

Godskin Peeler

Godskin Peeler’s weapon skill is Black Flame Tornado. When used, you spin your weapon overhead to create a vortex before slamming it onto the ground. You can hold down the skill to create a flame tornado. This is an incredibly effective and hard-hitting skill, especially when fighting big bosses. However, you can always change it to the Ash of War of your preference. We also recommend running either Keen or Lightning affinity on this armament.

Godskin Peeler posses a unique for its class heavy attack, which makes your character perform a lunge forward and hit them with the thrusting part of the armament, which can be handy in certain situations.

How to obtain: to get the Godskin Peeler, find the Godskin Apostle at Windmill Village, Atlus Plateau. Once slain, it will drop it.

Guardian’s Swordspear

Guardian’s Swordspear default Ash of War is Spinning Slash, which does a a spinning slash into a heavy attack finisher. However, we highly recommend to change it for more efficiency. The best affinities for this weapon are Keen and Lightning.

The Guardian’s Swordspear is probably the best dexterity halberd, as it posses great reach, relatively high attack speed, and a unique moveset for light attacks. The Keen scaling of this armament makes it a great weapon of choice for almost any dexterity-focused build.

How to obtain: To find the Guardian’s Swordspear, slay Erdtree Guardians which randomly drop it. The easier locations to farm this armement are:

• Minor Erdtree Church at Atlus Plateau.
• Minor Erdtree area in Weeping Peninsula.

Urumi

Stats and Requirements

The Urumi’s  default weapon skill is Kick, which is useful against enemies who are guarding since it can break their stance. However, you are free to change it for the Ash of War of your preference.

The whips are probably not the best choice for PvE, but there are some situations in which they are extremely good. As for Urumi, it has one of the highest scalings in the game for Dexterity, and where it lacks damage, it can compensate with its reach and moveset. Keep in mind, that this armament also has a unique heavy attack animation.

The recommended affinity for Urumi is Keen.

Location: Urumi is located at Caria Manor. You’ll find it on a body at the south-east ramparts – you can jump there form the higher ramparts that lead to the elevator.

The Best Intelligence Weapons

Clayman’s Harpoon

Clayman’s Harpoon default weapon skill is Impaling Thrust, a piercing lunge that allows you to pierce through enemy shields. However, you can change it for the Ash of War of your preference.

The unique thing about Clayman’s Harpoon is that with Standard affinity it has Intellect scaling and can be buffed with magic. This can allow for some pretty high damage outputs. For example, using Clayman’s Harpoon at +25 with Standard affinity nets you 513 AR with 80 Intellect. Since it can be buffed, cast Scholar’s Armament (with Lusat’s Glintstone Staff) and you can increase the damage output by additional 413 (Sorcery Scaling with Lusat’s Staff +10) * 0.75 (Scholar’s Armament modifier) = 309 damage. This will net you 822 AR, which is on pair with some of the best colossal weapons in the game. Pretty good for a mage, isn’t it? Combining it with Ash of War: Spinning Weapon will allow you to absolutely melt health bars of most bosses.

However, it all depends on you playstyle. Recommended affinities for Clayman’s Haproon are Standard, Magic or Cold.

How to obtain: head to either Uhl Palace Ruins, Siofra River, or Ainsel River and look for Clayman enemies that are wielding the armament. The weapon is a random drop, so be ready to spend some time on the farming!

Dark Moon Greatsword

One of the Legendary Armaments in Elden Ring, Dark Moon Greatsword’s lives up to the expectations by being one of the most overpowered weapons. The weapon has a unique skill – Moonlight Greatsword. When activated, you’ll temporarily gain additional 65 magic attack power and increase the frost buildup by 15. Charged attacks will fire projectile blasts of moonlight. Paired with Godfrey Icon and Shard of Alexander, you can reach an exceptional damage with armament’s projectiles.

The weapon also has innate 55 Frost buildup. With a proper build, this armament can be the best weapon in Elden Ring for any Intelligence-focused Tarnished.

How to obtain: You can obtain the armament by finishin Ranni’s Quest. After giving her the Dark Moon Ring, you will find the Dark Moon Greatsword below the Cathedral of Manus Celes.

Death’s Poker

Death Poker’s weapon skill is Ghostflame Ignition. When activated, you set the tip of your armament aflame – if you do a normal attack, the weapon will leave a trail of blazing flames on the ground. If you do a strong attack, it will instead deal damage around you in a massive explosion. Please, note that the weapon’s skills scales primarily of Intellect.

Death’s Poker also posesses a uniqe heavy attack animation which, when charged, will cause your character to make few steps forward and do a diagonal slash. This animation is shared with Sword of Milos.

The armament also causes 65 Frost buildup.

How to obtain: to get the Death’s Poker, head southeast of the Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank site of grace at night. You will find a Death Rite Bird boss in the area which drops the weapon after you defeat it.

Moonveil

Its Weapon Skill is Transient Moonlight – when activated, you sheathe your blade and then you can use either normal or strong attack to fire waves of light. This skill alone made Moonveil into an infamous weapon inside of the Elden Ring community, since it can turn both PvP and PvE into easy mode. Overall, Moonveil is an extremely powerful and versatile weapon, capable of easily staggering any enemy in just a couple of Transient Moonlight attacks.

Being a katana, Mooveil also has innate 50 bleed buildup, although it cannot be increased.

How to obtain: defeat Magma Wyrm at the Gael Tunnel in Caelid and you will get Moonveil as your reward.

Starscourge Greatsword

Starscourge Greatsword’s weapon skill is Starcaller Cry. When activated, you pull in enemies with a gravitational wave which can be followed up by an AoE slam.

The most crucial benefit of this weapon is that you do not need to pair it with another colossal sword for the powerstance. By 2-handing the weapon, you will get another sword in your left hand, making your Tarnished weild two collosal swords for the weight of one, which can be crucial in some builds. Needsless to say it is capable of dishing out some very solid damage on regular enemies and bosses alike.

How to obtain: to find the Starscourge Greatsword, you’ll first need to defeat Starscourge Radahn. After doing so, bring the Remembrance of the Starscourge to Roundtable Hold and trade it to Enia.

The Best Faith Weapons

Blasphemous Blade

Blasphemous Blade’s weapon skill is Taker’s Flames, which allows you to set the blade a flame and then do a projectile wave that goes in a straight line on the ground. As it hits enemies, you steal HP from them. This weapon can trivialize the game not only because it restores a portion of your HP on kills, and drains health from enemies with its skill, but also because it has some great damage! It is absolutely safe to say that Blasphemous Blade is the best armament in Elden Ring for Faith or Str/Fai builds.

How to obtain: to get Blasphemous Blade, first defeat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy at Mt. Gelmir, and you will get rewarded with Remembrance of the Blasphemous. Turn in the Remembrance to Enia at Roundtable Hold to receive this armament.

Godslayer’s Greatsword

Godslayer’s Greatsword’s weapon skill is The Queen’s Black Flame. Once activated, your blade is set ablaze and can do a series of massive slashes. The black flames deal damage over time in similar fashion to Godskin’s Incantations.

The unique thing about this weapon is it’s relatively faster moveset, if compared to other colossal swords. However, it deals less damage. Overall, this armament can be an invaluable addition to any Faith build, as it’s one of the highest damage and utility armaments in Elden Ring.

Location: to find the Godslayer’s Greatsword, head to the Divine Tower of Caelid. After defeating the Godskin Apostle, you’ll find it in a chest behind his boss arena. The armament can be picked up in the said chest.

Magma Worm’s Scalesword

Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword weapon skill is Magma Guillotine, which causes you to leap forward to create an explosive landing and leave magma pools on the ground. You can follow it up with another attack after the slam.

This armament is an incredible asset to any Faith or Str/Faith build because of it’s great scalings in both, rather fast moveset and it’s unique skill. There’s also a unique animation for 2-handed heavy attacks, which makes you slam your sword into the ground, although it doesn’t leave any magma pools. Can be handy in some situations. For example, it can be used to dodge some of the attacks, if you time it well.

How to obtain: To find Magma Wrym’s Scalesword, head to the Ruin-Strewn Precipice (northern Liurnia of the Lakes) and defeat the Magma Wyrm Makar boss. You will get rewarded with this armament.

Maliketh’s Black Blade

Maliketh’s Black Blade’s weapon skill is Destined Death, which swings and stabs the weapon into the ground and causes slashes around you. When it lands, this attack lowers an enemy’s max HP and deals damage over time. This is an incredibly useful skill, especially against enemies with a lot of HP, such as Fire Giant boss, as it can drastically reduce their HP. On top of that, the weapon’s skill effect stacks with Black Blade incantation or Blade of Death weapon skills of Black Knife armament.

Overall, Maliketh’s Black Blade is one of the best weapons in Elden Ring, capable of dishing out an insane amounts of damage, although you won’t get to use it much until NG+. The only relative problem with it is its Holy Damage portion. You have to keep in mind that some of the endgame enemies and bosses, such as Elden Beast, are highly resistant to Holy Damage.

How to obtain: to acquire Maliketh’s Black Blade, you must defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade at Crumbling Farum Azula. You’ll receive Rememberance of the Black Blade which can be turned in to Enia at Roundtable Hold to get the weapon.

Winged Scythe

Winged Scythe’s weapon skills is Angel’s Wings. When activated, you jump into the air before slashing as a finisher. Keep in mind that this skill can prevent NPC invaders from healing themselves if you time your attack correctly.

Although it might seem like there’s not much going on for this weapon, Winged Scythe can be one of the best armaments of choice for Faith-focused Tarnished in the early or mid game. Great scalings in both Dexterity and Faith, good reach, unique reaper’s ability to deal damage to shielded enemies, and it’s flashy weapon art will allow you to slice through the huge portion of the game with ease.

Location: to find Winged Scythe, head to the Tombward Ruins in Weeping Peninsula. At its center, go down the stairs and to the door at the end of the hall. You’ll find the armament within a chest in the room.

The Best Arcane Weapons

Eleonora’s Poleblade

Although the weapon doesn’t shine in terms of AR and raw damage output, its strength is a quick buildup of Blood Loss, which can be handy against a lot of enemies in the game.

How to obtain: To get Eleonora’s Poleblade, you must follow the questline of Bloody Finger Hunter Yura. After defeating Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger at the Second Church of Marika, as the last step of his questline, you will be rewarded with the weapon.

Marais Executioner Sword

This armament is the best choice of weapon for Tarnished who want to focus on both Strength and Arcane. Being one of the Legendary Armaments, this greatswords lives up to all expectations, capable of trivialising majority of encounters across the Lands Between.

How to obtain: to acquire the Marais Executioner Sword, head to The Shaded Castle and defeat Elemer of the Briar.

Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear

This armament can be invaluable in dungeons, since not only it can clear the room insanely fast, but can also damage enemies behind walls and ceilings with its weapon art.

How to obtain: to get Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear, head to Mohgwyn Palace’s Mausoleum and defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood. You’ll receive Rememberance of the Blood Lord which can be traded to Enia at Roundtable Hold in order to receive the armament.

Morgott’s Cursed Sword
