Magic Misadventures Impressions: Fated + Targon

Magic Misadventures LoR Spoilers Day 4

The fates have spoken and another set of reveals has arrived.

My name is Jordan “WhatAmI” Abronson and today Targon is getting some love with a new buff-centered archetype.

Ready to see what the stars have in store for us today?

To see the other past and future reveals for Magic Misadventures, check them out here.

Here are the card’s from Day 4 of Magic Misadventures Reveals:

  • Saga Seeker (Targon follower)
  • Iula (Targon follower)
  • Blinded Mystic (Targon follower)
  • Wounded Whiteflame (Targon follower)
  • We Stand Together (Targon spell)

Saga Seeker

saga seeker (lor card)

  • Saga Seeker
    • 1 mana 1|2 follower
    • Fated

So the first question obviously is “What’s fated and why should it make me want to play a 1 mana 1/2?” Fated reads: The first time each round an ally card targets me, grant me +1/+1.

So this little guy can grow pretty unreasonable quickly if you’re willing to help him out a bit.

A simple pale cascade has him in combat as a 3/4, support tools will work as well, and let’s not even get into the nonsense that Riven or Draven can get up to.

Archetypes are defined by their early plays, and this guy is putting his best foot forward for Fated’s power level.

Iula

Iula (lor card)

  • Iula
    • 3 mana 3|3 follower
    • Text – Play: Give an ally Spellshield and Overwhelm this round.

While they only last for one round, those two keywords are among the most threatening this game has to offer. This is looking like a powerful combo enabler ready to take names.

She might not jive immediately with Lee Sin as he really wants the spell-quality of Zenith Blade to help level, but there are plenty of other fun targets for this ability and she’ll be happy to trigger Fated along the way.

Sticking a random 3/3 that occasionally wins you the game into a Taric deck sounds like a good time to me. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Riven, Swayne, you name it.

I don’t know quite where she’ll fit, but if we find a deck for her Iula will be a serious powerhouse.

Blinded Mystic

Blinded Mystic (lor card)

  • Blinded Mystic
    • 4 mana 3|2 follower
    • Text – Play: Grant an ally +1|+1 and silence an enemy follower

Not going to lie I am initially kind of underwhelmed by this card. It feels a lot like Desert Naturalist.

While you can put it in the Fated archetype, unless there are some followers that really need silencing four mana is a lot to ask.

Instead, this feels like a stop-gap if buffs get too far out of control. Get too centered on one large follower and this mystic will come down to blind them. That said it does combo pretty well with the next card so who knows?

Wounded Whiteflame

Wounded Whiteflame (lor card)

  • Wounded Whiteflame
    • 3 mana 2|4
    • Fury, Fated

This seems like the archetype’s premier mid-game beat-stick. With only one buff it can hit a 4/6 stat line which is pretty unreasonable if I do say so myself.

This buddy will put on a pretty impressive amount of pressure relatively early in the game and start demanding chump blocks or food quite quickly.

Let’s also not forget this is a three-drop dragon. That’s something we have been waiting for for quite a while.

The more powerful and consistent Dragons grow the closer we get to Shyvanna taking to the sky and eating everyone, something to watch out for.

We Stand Together

We Stand Together (lor card)

  • We Stand Together
    • 3 Mana Burst Spell
    • Text: Give two allies +1|+2 this round

Ok, I get that three mana is a lot more than two, but am I the only one who looked at this and went “They gave Targon a Troll Chant?”.

This seems like a spell with insane blowout potential before you even get to the Fated synergies.

Anytime a Targon player has three mana up you are going to need to be affeered of this if you try to enter combat.

Maybe I am over-reacting a bit, but this feels like a new premier buff spell and combat trick that is going to be causing huge headaches in the new format. Get ready folks, because Stand Together feels like the real deal.

Bonus Deck: SheRa!

WhatAmI's SheRa (Lor deck 12-2)

Deck code: CEBQGAYDAEBQOBIDBEESGR24MIBAKCICAYBQEBIJAUGQCAYJDMBACAYYHAAA

[See WhatAmI’s SheRa! deck details]

I’ve kind of wanted to make a deck like this since Riven and Zoe have been out together, but it’s never quite had the necessary tools to tie it together.

With the Fated mechanic unveiled and pump spells galore though I think this is finally the moment to give it a whirl.

This deck protects Zoe exceptionally well and levels her unreasonably fast which anyone who has dealt with the tiny menace knows is generally going to be enough to win a game on its own.

If that fails though the second half of this deck is ready to rumble right on in.

You’ll be able to present truly impressive amounts of overwhelm damage pretty early in the game.

And just in case that’s not enough, Shunpo is lurking at the top end of your deck to spin it all up and do it again. This is immediately going on my to-test list and looks like an absolute blast to play.
