Our Thoughts on Today’s Reveal Package (Legends of Runeterra)
Hey all, NicMakesPlays here, and today I am going to go over the new cards from the latest Legends Of Runeterra reveal for the Cosmic Creation set.
Today, they added a widespread of cards that can give many different decks new tools to play with.
Unlike past reveals, there wasn’t really an overlying theme to the cards that debuted.
Here are the new cards for Ionia, Freljord, and Bilgewater:
- The Scargrounds (Freljord landmark)
- Wiggly Burblefish (Bilgewater follower)
- It That Stares (Freljord follower)
- Boomship (Bilgewater follower)
- Monastery of Hirana (Ionia landmark)
- Sanctuary (Ionia spell)
- Homecoming (Ionia spell)

The Scargrounds
- The Scargrounds
- 3 mana Landmark
- Text – When an ally survives damage, grant it +1|+0 and Tough
This card is the big winner of the cards revealed today. People love Vlad in this game and he gets a ton more viability with the Scargrounds. The Scargrounds is a nice fit for the Vlad deck since it gives your deck a lot higher of a payoff for all of the self-damaging that is done.
This can is also amazing with Braum since it makes Braum have 1 attack and tough. When this buff is combined with Braum’s Challenger and Regen he can be a huge threat if you play The Scargrounds on 3 and Braum on 4.
Braum and Vlad decks should be really happy about this card since they have a new tool to work with.
Wiggly Burblefish
- Wiggly Burblefish
- 6 mana 3|1, Elusive
- Text – Reduce my cost by 1 for each spell you’ve cast this game. When I’m summoned, create a 1 cost spell from your regions in hand.
This card is nice because it’s another Elusive that’s added to Bilgewater, and it’s unique too.
Wiggly Burblefish can work well in Fizz decks since their spells discount Wiggly Burblefish, as well as it being Elusive for chip damage. On top of this, the spells Wiggly Burblefish makes can also be used to level up Fizz and use his effect.
Mind Meld can also be added to these decks since they are both buffed by how many spells you use, this card has a ton of possibilities and it will be interesting to see what people come up with.
It That Stares
- It That Stares
- 8 mana 8|8
- Text – Play: Obliterate ALL landmarks or deal 2 to ALL other units
This card can be good as an option in the right meta for the Feel the Rush and Warmother’s Call decks.
It That Stares fits a lot of roles as an 8|8 body, that has the option to deal 2 to all units on the field, obliterate landmarks and trigger Behold. In a more landmark oriented meta, this card can find its place.
Boomship
- Boomship
- 3 mana Slow spell
- Text – Deal 1 to a unit. Then summon Powder Kegs equal to the amount of damage dealt
Boomship is a bit expensive for what it does, but it still can find a role in Keg oriented decks. Boomship utilizes Kegs because they make it stronger itself, then it summons a higher stack of kegs for the damage dealt.
This card is nice because it fits the role of using Kegs for more pay off while also refueling your cards for your next damage.
Monastery of Hirana
- Monastery of Hirana
- 3 mana Landmark
- Text – Round Start: Create a Sanctuary in hand
- Sanctuary
- 1 mana Burst spell, Fleeting
- Text – Recall an ally, Can’t be cast in combat or in response to a spell
This card is interesting and could become a better card as the game releases more cards that synergize with it.
Right now in this card pool, it can be used to reuse Concussive Palm multiple times, level up Yasuo, and increase Fae Bladetwirler’s attack.
I could see this card best using in a Yasuo control deck. This card makes it easier to run Deep Meditation in Yasuo since you will have a cheap spell each turn to help discount Deep Med, which also can search Concussive Palm to be used with Monastery.
Homecoming
- Homecoming
- 5 mana Fast spell
- Text – Recall an ally unit or landmark to recall an enemy unit or landmark
I like this card because it’s an alternate version of Will of Ionia. This card costs 5 mana, which is the same as Will of Ionia but it recalls one of your own units and your opponent’s.
This card is an option to play instead of Will of Ionia if your deck benefits from recalling units. It can be used to summon units again and gain their summon/play effects, as well as re-use Concussive Palm.
Thanks for reading! Keep an eye out for the rest of our analysis as more cards come out and be sure to revisit our previous impressions for the set.
