Call of the Mountain LoR Card Impressions: Fury (Whiteflame Protector, Fused Firebrand and More)

Our Thoughts on the New Fury Cards (Call of the Mountain)

Dragons are arriving in Legend of Runeterra’s Call of the Mountain expansion and they’re bringing a brand new keyword, Fury.

Here are the new Dragon cards for CoTM:

  • Herald of Dragons (Targon follower)
  • Whiteflame Protector (Targon follower)
  • Fused Firebrand (Targon follower)
  • Screeching Dragon (Demacia follower)
  • Dragon’s Clutch (Targon spell)

In this article, our Glimpse Beyond experts, NicMakePlays and Precipic, dive into Fury and the Dragon archetype!

Fury

fury keyword

Fury grants a +1|+1 buff when its card kills a unit. Note that this effect procs multiple times so it offers upside if you’re able to protect and heal your unit.

The keyword will shine most against decks with a lot of low-cost chump blockers and will provide additional pressure if your opponents can remove the Fury unit.

Herald of Dragons

lor herald of dragons reveal

  • Herald of Dragons
    • 2 mana 1|1
    • Text – Dragon allies cost 1 less.

Precipic: Herald of Dragons could be a focal point of the dragon deck archetype in the future. If Shyvana comes out it would likely be really important in her deck.

NicMakesPlays: Cards with discounting effects are always powerful and this looks like an integral part of the Dragon deck when they get more support since the Dragon cards will be mid-high cost on average.

Whiteflame Protector

lor whiteflame protector reveal

  • Whiteflame Protector
    • 4 mana 4|4
    • Fury

Precipic: Whiteflame Protector is a pretty mediocre Dragon and will see play only because of the Dragon keyword.

NicMakesPlays: Agreed, it can likely only find a role in the Dragon deck because it is the cheapest Dragon.

Fused Firebrand

lor fused firebrand reveal

  • Fused Firebrand
    • 5 mana 5|5
    • Fury, Spellshield

Precipic: Fused Firebrand, a 5 drop with the Dragon keyword, will see play in decks that want as many Dragons as possible or as many Spellshield cards as possible.

NicMakesPlays: Playing this on four (with Herald of the Dragons) is powerful against a lot of matchups that can’t deal with a 5/5 with Spellshield that early.

Screeching Dragon

lor screeching dragon reveal

  • Screeching Dragon
    • 5 mana 4|5
    • Challenger, Fury

Precipic: Challenger plus Fury is a nice synergy. Being a Demacia card basically confirms the existence of a future Demacia + Targon Dragon archetype. This is also a pretty good hit off Remembrance.

NicMakesPlays: When combined, Fury and Challenger keywords have good synergy and as Precipic mentioned, this is another card you can get off Remembrance.

Dragon’s Clutch

lor dragon's clutch reveal

  • Dragon’s Clutch
    • 3 mana spell, Burst speed
    • Text – Draw 2 different Dragons or grant Dragon allies +1|+1.

Precipic: Dragon’s Clutch is a pretty versatile card that’s very likely to see play in a Dragon deck. It has the ability to search for Dragons in your deck like Aurelion Sol and potentially Shyvana.

NicMakesPlays: You will most likely use this card for the search effect since the buff only affects Dragons on the field, but it is nice that you have the versatility as an option.
