5 Champions Who Counter Lucian (Solo Lane)
Lucian is a very strong solo laner in League of Legends. Initially, he was an ADC but has found more success as of late in the mid and top lane. He is seen more as a counter pick, but it’s not unheard of for him to be picked blindly.
In this Mobalytics guide, we will break down 5 champions that are good against Lucian in the mid and top lane. Because he is so annoying to play against if you see the enemy first pick him, try and pick one of these champions if you know you’re laning against him.

What champions counter Lucian solo lane?
The best champions that counter Lucian are Malphite, Wukong, Corki, Yasuo and Annie. You can find all the matchup tips we use in this guide on the Mobalytics App. For plus members, you can get specific matchup tips for the champion you’re playing versus the enemy laner at your fingertips while you load into the game. We have tens of thousands of different, highly specific matchups curated by our challenger level players to help you lane against the enemy champion.
1. Lucian vs Malphite
Malphite is a tank and can adapt his build easily when playing against Lucian. He can build full armour and get free defensive stats, thanks to his kit. All in all, Malphite is a great pick into Lucian. The only downfall to this matchup is that he has the range advantage over you.
4 tips to counter Lucian as Malphite
- Do not be afraid of giving up CS to avoid combat so you can keep your shield at maximum HP when you do go up for CS.
- You can cancel Lucian’s Ultimate with your Ultimate. Alternatively, you may wish to use yours to escape if you will die regardless of the channel.
- Stand to the side of the minion wave and be ready to poke with Q because Lucian will look to Q poke you through minions.
- Use your Q on Lucian when you see him walking up to CS to poke him out and reduce his pressure in the lane.
2. Lucian vs Wukong
Wukong is one of the best lane bullies in the game. Thanks to his E, he can easily get onto a target, deal damage, and escape with his W invisibility. Post 6, Wukong also has a lot of kill pressure.
4 tips to counter Lucian as Wukong
- Try and hit level 2 first (the first 7 minions), and then look for an early skirmish. Do not over-commit to the fight, though, if they hit level 2 simultaneously or if they have a lot of sustain as you will come worse off.
- When you’re not looking to fight or last hit, stand back so the enemy cannot poke you down. If you stand in auto attack range, you will take a lot of damage for free, which will make a future all in non-existent if you’re low.
- Try to get the minion wave to stay near your side of the map so you can look for all ins and chase the enemy down the lane. If you keep pushing and the enemy freezes, you’ll not be able to trade with them.
- Your level 6 is much stronger than the enemies. Try to look for a skirmish at level 5, and then once you’re level 6, you can go in with your Ultimate. Do not get bullied or poked down before hitting 6 to guarantee a kill once you get the level up.
3. Lucian vs Corki
Corki can out push Lucian and do just as well in the lane as him. Thanks to his E, he can also out trade him or match his damage in skirmishes. Corki has higher roam potential with his Passive too.
4 tips to counter Lucian as Corki
- Poke Lucian with your Q in the lane while maintaining your distance from him. Try to hit the enemy minions with them as well. This will allow you to get an overall advantage over Lucian.
- Your W should be used with extreme discretion in this lane. This is because it will allow you to space properly against Lucian, and you can easily counter his E that way.
- Once you get your package, only go to your lane if Lucian is pushed up, and you can kill him quickly. Otherwise, try to go to some other lane and get a few kills elsewhere.
- Keep the wave in the middle of the lane and maintain your distance from Lucian. Do not line up with minions either, as it will let Lucian Q you.
4. Lucian vs Yasuo
Yasuo can block the whole of Lucian’s Ultimate, which makes him unable to use it in this matchup. As long as you reserve it post 6, you will survive almost all all-ins. Pre-6, yes, it’s hard for Yasuo, but you should be better off in this matchup after your first back.
4 tips to counter Lucian as Yasuo
- Your Passive will help you a lot in this lane. Just keep it up for the most part and use it to go for short burst trades against Lucian.
- It would help if you tried to poke Lucian constantly with your Qtornado in this lane. It will let you bait out Lucian’s E with ease.
- Use your W with extreme discretion in this lane. It will help you beat Lucian during fights and will allow you to counter most of his abilities, including his Ultimate.
- Keep the wave in the middle of the lane and maintain your distance from Lucian. Do not line up with minions either, as it will let Lucian Q you. Also, ward around correctly as you may be an easy gank target.
5. Lucian vs Annie
Annie has a lot of burst and all-in potential with her Tibbers and Passive. She also has great gank setup thanks to her stun. It will be tough for Lucian to use his E aggressively whenever Annie has her stun up too, which increases your kill pressure.
4 tips to counter Lucian as Annie
- Just keep poking Lucian with your Q in this lane when your Passive is fully stacked up. This will let you get some auto-attacks in as well.
- Your E will play a significant role when it comes to countering Lucian. It will let you space properly against him and will allow you to dodge his Q.
- Once you get your Ultimate, you should have the upper hand in this lane. Use it along with your Passive to blow up Lucian when you get a chance.
- Keep the wave in the middle of the lane and maintain your distance from Lucian. Do not line up with minions either, as it will let Lucian Q you.
Conclusion
Lucian can be hard to lane against, but picking the right champion into him will make the game a lot easier for you. Try and pick one of these champions into him next time you’re laning against him!
