Tingyun: Guide, Skills, Builds, Teams & More

Tingyun is a Standard 4 Star Character that was available since the game’s launch. With a simple but highly effective skill set, Tingyun has stayed relevant throughout the game’s history and is still a viable Support in the present meta.

Tingyun HSR Kit Overview (Trace Level 10)

Tingyun is the original Energy Support unit, with a defining trait being her Ultimate – Amidst the Rejoicing Clouds. Upon use, this Ultimate will regenerate a sizable amount of Energy for an ally and increase their Damage by 50% for 2 turns.

At 130 Energy and with how fast Tingyun generally moves, this Ultimate can be used quite frequently, which both makes Tingyun a highly effective Energy battery for many Damage Dealers while also providing her an avenue to abuse one of the strongest Light Cones in the game: Dance Dance Dance.

Another important facet of Tingyun’s damage amplifying capacity is her Skill – Soothing Melody. This skill grants an ally a 50% Attack increase, and a further Attack increase equal to 25% of Tingyun’s current Attack, and they will also receive an effect called Benediction, both lasting over 3 turns.

While having Benediction, any instance of damage from this ally will trigger an additional Lightning damage instance equal to 40% of their Attack. Furthermore, her Talent will also interact with this effect. Whenever Tingyun attacks, an additional damage instance will trigger with the amount equal to 60% of the Attack of the ally with Benediction. As this buff lasts over 3 turns and only one ally can have Benediction at any point, generally Tingyun will adopt a Skill – Basic – Basic rotation to maintain her SP positivity.

Tingyun HSR Splash Crop

Tingyun has one of the best Techniques in the game. Upon use, it will recover her Energy by 50, and this can be used multiple times before entering combat. This means that Tingyun can immediately use her Ultimate before anyone can even move, which gives rise to one of her more notorious uses as a Dance Dance Dance abuser to drag the entire team forward and set up another unit’s Ultimate.

Tingyun’s traces are rather basic. Her first major trace increases her Speed by 20% for 1 turn after using her Skill, which further improves her action economy. Her second trace increases her own Basic Attack’s damage by 40%, which is quite negligible.

Her third trait increases her own Energy by 5 every time she takes action, meaning there is an even greater incentive to build Tingyun as fast as possible.

Tingyun’s gameplay is very simple. Buff someone with both her Skill and Ultimate, and try to move as fast as possible to leverage her Ultimate’s Energy charging capacity, generate Skill Points, and utilize the Benediction’s additional damage.

A lot of her more complex gameplay decisions come into play when she is paired with the Light Cone Dance Dance Dance. With this Light Cone, Tingyun will have to be more conscious of her Ultimate timing, as well as the unit that she needs to use her Ultimate on (in some very fringe cases, she can even use Ultimate on herself to set up for another faster Ultimate and drag the team forward later).

This utility and the fact that her Energy battery effect is being very consistent is what has kept Tingyun relevant throughout numerous patches, despite her buffing number not being that impressive, especially as more and more modern hypercarries and support that benefit from Tingyun’s Energy and team advance with Dance Dance Dance.

Eidolon Priority

As a 4-Star unit, Tingyun’s Eidolons are generally obtained via off-banner pulls, or players can buy some of her copies from the shop when she is in rotation. Her Eidolons are decent overall, but they are not mandatory to purchase unless the players use her a lot.

Her E1, E2, and E4 are all minor improvements to her buffing capacity which won’t affect her and her teammates operation in major ways, while E6 is the most impactful as it increase the Energy she generate from 50 to 60 Energy which is a big increase, especially for many Energy-starved Damage Dealers.

HSR Tingyun Light Cones

Premium Options

A Grounded Ascent

A Grounded Ascent: After the wearer uses Skill or Ultimate on one ally character, the wearer regenerates 6/6.5/7/7.5/8 Energy and the ability’s target receives 1 stack of “Hymn” for 3 turns, stacking up to 3 times. Each stack of “Hymn” increases its holder’s Damage dealt by 15%/17.25%/19.5%/21.75%/24%. After every 2 instances of Skill or Ultimate the wearer uses on one ally character, recovers 1 Skill Point.

Sunday’s Signature Light Cone is fantastic for Tingyun, as she benefits from both its Energy Regen and Damage buffing.

Furthermore, since Tingyun Skill and Ultimate both target an ally, she can take advantage of the Skill Points regeneration effect as well.

Dance! Dance! Dance!

Dance Dance Dance: When the wearer uses their Ultimate, all allies’ actions are Advanced Forward by 16%/18%/20%/22%/24%.

This Light Cone is synonymous with Tingyun for many players who want to cut down the Action Value spent for their run. Since Tingyun has a cheap Ultimate that can be used quite often, plus she can immediately use her Ultimate at the start of the battle thanks to her Technique, this Light Cone can help Tingyun in numerous powerful setups.

Carve the Moon, Weave the Clouds

Carve the Moon, Weave the Clouds: At the start of the battle and whenever the wearer’s turn begins, one of the following effects is applied randomly: All allies’ Attack increases by 10%/12.5%/15%/17.5%/20%, all allies’ Crit Damage increases by 12%/15%/18%/21%/24%, or all allies’ Energy Regeneration Rate increases by 6%/7.5%/9%/10.5%/12%. The applied effect cannot be identical to the last effect applied, and will replace the previous effect. The applied effect will be removed when the wearer has been knocked down. Effects of the same type cannot be stacked.

A good generic Light Cone that many Harmony units can use since it gives widely applicable buffs to the entire team, albeit a bit random.

F2P Options

Meshing Cogs

Meshing Cogs: After the wearer uses attacks or gets hit, additionally regenerates 4/5/6/7/8 Energy. This effect cannot be repeatedly triggered in a single turn.

Since Tingyun moves very often due to her high speed and Dance Dance Dance/Eagle Set, she can generate a lot of Energy off this Light Cone.

HSR Tingyun Main Stats

  • Body: HP% >> Attack%
  • Feet: Speed
  • Orb: HP% >> Attack%
  • Rope: Energy Regeneration Rope

While Tingyun’s buffs scale off her Attack, the scaling is not that high, and she is also extremely squishy. Thus, it might be more beneficial to run at least one main piece (between Body and Orb, and preferably both as endgame contents have become more hard-hitting over the year) with HP% as its main stats. For boot, Tingyun will 100% want Speed boot to maximize her action economy. For Rope, she wants Energy Regeneration Rope to access her Ultimate as often as possible.

HSR Tingyun Sub Stats

  • Speed
  • HP
  • Attack

Tingyun should prioritize Speed as the primary chase stat on her relic. HP% and Attack% are nice to have, but can be sacrificed to get higher Speed.

Speedtuning:

  • Goal: As high Speed as possible

Tingyun’s build is simple: get as much Speed as possible, while maintaining a decent value of HP and Attack. It can be tough to pinpoint a specific Speed breakpoint for Tingyun, as hits RNG, the amount of Dance Dance Dance usage during the run, and other numerous factors could influent her action economy. Since Tingyun has high innate Speed, 160 or 168 Speed are often good enough as generically useful breakpoints.

HSR Tingyun Relics

Option A

Sacerdos' Relived Ordeal

Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal

  • 2-Pc: Increases SPD by 6%.
  • 4-Pc: When using Skill or Ultimate on one ally target, increases the ability target’s Crit Damage by 18%, lasting for 2 turns. This effect can stack up to 2 times.

This set is Tingyun’s best-in-slot, as it gives her a highly valuable Speed boost and further amplifies her buffing power via its 4-Pc bonus.

Option B

Eagle of Twilight Line

Eagle of Twilight Line

  • 2-Pc: Increases Wind DMG by 10%.
  • 4-Pc: After the wearer uses their Ultimate, their action is Advanced Forward by 25%.

Often used in conjunction with Dance Dance Dance, this set further improve Tingyun’s action economy so she can quickly generate Energy and Skill Points for the team.

Option C

Messenger Traversing Hackerspace

Messenger Traversing Hackerspace

  • 2-Pc: Increases SPD by 6%.
  • 4-Pc: When the wearer uses their Ultimate on an ally, SPD for all allies increases by 12% for 1 turn. This effect cannot be stacked.

A good placeholder option thanks to its 6% Speed buff passively and a teamwide 12% Speed buff for the entire team.

Option D

2+2 Pieces Tingyun

2+2 Pieces

This combination is solely to get 12% Speed from the two sets together, and maybe utilize high pieces with speed subs from farming these caverns.

HSR Tingyun Planar Sets

Lushaka, the Sunken Seas

Lushaka, the Sunken Seas

  • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5%. If the wearer is not the first character in the team lineup, then increases the Attack of the first character in the team lineup by 12%.

This set is the best generalist option for Tingyun, thanks to its Energy Regeneration boost and an Attack boost to the main Damage Dealer in the team at the same time.

Sprightly Vonwaq

Sprightly Vonwaq

  • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, the wearer’s action is Advanced Forward by 40% immediately upon entering battle.

This set is another option with extra Energy Regeneration Rate, but also can help Tingyun move before anyone in the team to setup Benediction.

fleet of the ageless

Fleet of the Ageless

  • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Max HP by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, all allies’ ATK increases by 8%.

A generically good option to improve her bulk as well as the team Attack%.

HSR Tingyun Teammates

Tingyun is best used with Attack-scaling, and/or Energy users. Thanks to her versatility and ease of use, as well as being one of the best Dance Dance Dance abusers, Tingyun can also combo very well with most other amplifiers.

Main DPS

Phainon

Phainon: Tingyun is a cheap but very effective support for Phainon, as she can generate Coreflame stacks for Phainon quickly since her Ultimate gives 2 stacks as it recovers Energy, and her Skill also targets.

Yunli and Saber

Yunli/Saber: Both units are heavy Energy-reliant Damage Dealers, and thus they appreciate Tingyun’s ability to charge their Ultimates, even though ideally Sunday should replace Tingyun in their best-in-slot teams.

Archer and Dan Heng - Imbibitor Lunae

Archer/Dan Heng – Imbibitor Lunae: Both of these units rely on their Ultimate to fuel their heavy SP consumption playstyle. Furthermore, Tingyun is SP positive, allowing her to fits in their team quite seamlessly.

Anaxa and Seele

Anaxa/Seele: Both are examples of classic Attack-scaling hypercarries with impactful Ultimates and high SP consumptions, all of which are good arguments for Tingyun.

Harmony/Nihility

robin

Robin: Robin and Tingyun have good Synergy since Robin often struggles to charge her Ultimate when used with Damage Dealers that do not have high attack frequency, so Tingyun can often spare an Ultimate to help Robin quickly access her broken Ultimate. Furthermore, since Robin buffs the party’s Attack massively, this also amplifies Tingyun’s Benediction buff.

Sparkle, Tribbie and Cerydra

Sparkle/Tribbie/Cerydra: These units are all highly effective Dance Dance Dance users that can combo with Tingyun to further amplify the team’s action economy.

HSR Tingyun Teams

Since Tingyun can work in a vast number of teams, we only list some of her most notable teams.

HSR Tingyun Value and Conclusion

Even though she is a 4 Star unit, Tingyun has shown her value throughout the year and various metas, and managed to stay relevant with newer Damage Dealers being released. While she is definitely surpassed by modern Harmony units in terms of damage amplification, she is a very cheap unit to build, and most players will often get her at a decent Eidolon level simply from playing the game and pulling the gacha. For newer players, Tingyun is especially useful alongside other F2P units such as Bronya and Remembrance Trailblazer, and can carry the account’s progression while staying useful in endgame environments.
