Sunday is the fourth member of the prestigious Limited Harmony ensemble, and he comes with massive expectations considering how game-changing Ruan Mei and Robin have been.
In terms of playstyle, Sunday is the much upgraded version of the strongest standard unit in the game – Bronya, but he also has his unique niche in being a tailor-made Summon DPS Support. This may play a major role in the future once Honkai Star Rail expands the Summon DPS into a fully-fledged playstyle.
HSR Sunday Release Date
Sunday’s banner will be in the first half of Version 2.7 releasing on December 4th, 2024 and will run until December 25th, 2024.
Sunday HSR Kit Review (Trace Level 10)
Tingyun Mixed With Bronya
The best description of Sunday is that he is a mix between Tingyun and Bronya, but also with extra bonuses when used with a Summon DPS.
As of the time of his release, there are only three Summon units in the game – Jing Yuan’s Lightning Lord, Topaz’s Numby, and Lingsha’s Fuyuan.
These Summon all independently appear as basically a 5th unit on the Action Bar, and before Sunday, they are mostly interactable directly via their Summoners’ skills and effects.
Ultimate
Sunday’s Ultimate is the gateway for a lot of his other effects. His Ultimate grants 20% of a target’s max Energy and grants them a status called “The Beatified”. The Beatified grants the target a Crit Damage Boost based on Sunday’s Crit Damage. It lasts for 3 turns and only ticks down based on Sunday’s turns rather than the target’s turn.
Only one unit can get The Beatified status on the field, meaning if Sunday casts his Ultimate on another target, this status will switch. If Sunday is knocked down, this status will also get dispelled. His first major trace makes it so that his Ultimate will always recover at least 40 Energy to the target, and higher if the energy cap of his target is 200 or more.
Skill
Sunday’s Skill is a targetable 100% Action Advance for an ally AND their Summon at the same time, granting the targeted ally a damage boost that lasts for 2 turns. It is worth noting that the Summoner will ALWAYS act before the Summon when they are both advanced by Sunday.
If said ally has a Summon, the bonus damage boost will be bigger. If Sunday uses his skill on a target with “The Beatified”, he will recover 1 Skill Point. His third Trace also makes his skill dispel 1 debuff from the target, mirroring Bronya’s skill.
His talent further puts more power budget into his skill by granting the target of the skill a flat 20% Critical Rate buff – the highest Critical Rate from a support unit in the game. However, this skill also has a restriction built in to prevent potential abuse unlike Bronya’s, which is that if Sunday casts it on another Harmony unit, they will not be Action Advanced.
The Rest
The remaining parts of Sunday’s kit are relatively simple. His Technique grants a 50% Damage boost for 2 turns on the first target of his ability, while his second major trace grants 25 Energy for Sunday at the start of the battle, essentially allowing him to use his Ultimate quickly to set up “The Beatified” with an Energy Regeneration Rope.
HSR Sunday Talents
Sunday HSR Core Skills
Basic Attack – Gleaming Admonition
Deals Imaginary Damage equal to 100% of Sunday’s Attack to one designated enemy.
Skill – Benison of Paper and Rites
Enables one designated ally character and their summon to immediately take action, and increases their Damage dealt by 30%. If the target has a summon, then additionally increases the Damage boost effect by 50%, lasting for 2 turn.
After using Skill on The Beatified, recovers 1 Skill Point.
When Sunday uses this ability on characters following the Path of Harmony, the “immediate action” effect cannot be triggered.
Ultimate – Ode to Caress and Cicatrix
Regenerates Energy by 20% of Max Energy for one designated ally character and turns the target and their summon into “The Beatified.” “The Beatified” have their Crit Damage increased by an amount equal to 30% of Sunday’s Crit Damage plus 12%.
At the start of Sunday’s each turn, reduces the duration of “The Beatified” state by 1 turn, lasting for a total of 3 turns. And it only takes effect on the most recent target of the Ultimate (excluding Sunday himself). When Sunday becomes downed, “The Beatified” will also be dispelled.
Talent – The Sorrowing Body
When using Skill, increases the target’s Crit Rate by 20%, lasting for 3 turns.
Technique – The Glorious Mysteries
The first time Sunday uses an ability on an ally target in the next battle, the target’s Damage dealt increases by 50% for 2 turns.
Sunday HSR Traces
Rest Day’s Longing
If the Ultimate regenerates less than 40 Energy for the target, increases the Energy regenerated to 40.
Exalted Sweep
When battle starts, Sunday regenerates 25 Energy.
Haven in Palm
When using Skill, dispels 1 debuff from the target.
Sunday HSR Eidolons
E1 | Millennium’s Quietus: When Sunday uses his Skill, allows the target character to ignore 16% of the enemy target’s DEF and their summons to ignore 40% of the enemy target’s DEF when dealing Damage, lasting for 2 turns. |
E2 | Faith Outstrips Frailty: Recovers 2 Skill Point after Ultimate is first used. The Damage dealt by “The Beatified” increases by 30%. |
E3 | Hermitage of Thorns: Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Basic Attack Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10. |
E4 | Sculpture’s Preamble: At the start of the turn, regenerates 8 Energy. |
E5 | Paper Raft in Silver Bay: Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. |
E6 | Dawn of Sidereal Cacophony: The Talent’s Crit Rate boost effect becomes stackable up to 3 times, and the Talent’s duration increases by 1 turn. When Sunday uses Ultimate, he also applies the Talent’s Crit Rate boost effect to the target. When the Talent’s Crit Rate boost takes effect and the target’s Crit Rate exceeds 100%, every 1% of excess Crit Rate increases by 2% Crit Damage. |
Eidolon Priority
Unlike his Limited Harmony counterparts, Sunday has a very lackluster set of Eidolons. His E1 is only strong when used with a Summon DPS, otherwise, a 16% Def Shred is very lackluster without another source of Def Shred.
Considering that Summoners might be its archetype in the future with the introduction of Sunday and the BananAmusement Park planar set, grabbing his Eidolon 1 might be a good investment for future DPS. It is highly advised to grab his Signature Light Cone first, however, as it is the strongest possible boost for Sunday and is also cheaper than an Eidolon.
All of his other Eidolons are quite mediocre in terms of gain, even his Eidolon 6. E2 Skill Recovery only applies for the first Ultimate and the secondary effect being 30% Damage Boost is not that impactful for an expensive Eidolon. E4 is just a stepping stone for E6 and barely changes his Rotation much, while E6 is purely a numerical increase for his Crit Ratio buffs. Considering Crit Damage is already a highly saturated source of damage boost in Sunday’s teams in general, the value is not as crazy as a DPS E6 or something like Robin’s E6.
- Eidolon 1: High Value
- Eidolon 2: Low Value
- Eidolon 4: Very Low Value
- Eidolon 6: Medium Value

Premium Options
A Grounded Descent
After the wearer uses Skill or Ultimate on one ally character, the wearer regenerates 6 / 6.5 / 7 / 7.5 / 8 Energy and the ability’s target receives 1 stack of “Hymn” for 3 turns, stacking up to 3 times. Each stack of “Hymn” increases its holder’s Damage dealt by 15% / 17.25% / 19.5% / 21.75% / 24% . After every 2 instances of Skill or Ultimate the wearer uses on one ally character, recovers 1 Skill Point.
Sunday’s Signature Light Cone is exceptional for him. It vastly improves his rotation, giving him further amplification for his buffing target and also making him a completely SP-positive unit. While Sunday has a lot of good alternative Light Cone options, his Signature Light Cone provides the best bang for the buck in terms of early vertical investment.
Earthly Escapade
Increases the wearer’s Crit Damage by 32% / 39% / 46% / 53% / 60% . At the start of the battle, the wearer gains Mask, lasting for 3 turn. While the wearer has Mask, the wearer’s teammates have their Crit Rate increased by 10% / 11% / 12% / 13% / 14% and their Crit Damage increased by 28% / 35% / 42% / 49% / 56% . For every 1 Skill Point the wearer recovers (including Skill Points that exceed the limit), they gain 1 stack of Radiant Flame. And when the wearer has 4 stacks of Radiant Flame, all the stacks are removed, and they gain Mask, lasting for 4 turns.
A highly viable option for Sunday if any players pull this for Sparkle. The main draw of this Light Cone is the Crit Rate which when combined with Sunday’s Talent is a total 30% Crit Rate buff for his primary target, which makes a lot of DPS easier to build as long as they are paired with Sunday.
Carve The Moon, Weave The Clouds
At the start of the battle and whenever the wearer’s turn begins, one of the following effects is applied randomly: All allies’ Attack increases by 10% / 12.5% / 15% / 17.5% / 20% , all allies’ Crit Damage increases by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24% , or all allies’ Energy Regeneration Rate increases by 6% / 7.5% / 9% / 10.5% / 12% . The applied effect cannot be identical to the last effect applied, and will replace the previous effect. The applied effect will be removed when the wearer has been knocked down. Effects of the same type cannot be stacked.
All the effects of Carve the Moon, Weave the Clouds are good, albeit random. It is a decent generalist option for players who buy Nameless Honor. (Battle Pass)
F2P Options
But the Battle Isn’t Over
Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 10% / 12% / 14% / 16% / 18% and regenerates 1 Skill Point when the wearer uses their Ultimate on a Party character. This effect can be triggered once after every 2 uses of the wearer’s Ultimate. When the wearer uses their Skill, the next Party unit taking action (except the wearer) deals 30% / 35% / 40% / 45% / 50% more Damage for 1 turn.
This is one of the best options if Sunday is supporting a non-Summon DPS, especially DPS that want that immediate damage boost to burst after getting Advanced like Sunday (such as Seele or Argenti). It is essentially a F2P version of his Signature Light Cone, giving energy, Skill Point, and Damage Boost.
Dance Dance Dance
Dance! Dance! Dance!: When the wearer uses their Ultimate, all allies’ actions are Advanced Forward by 16% / 18% / 20% / 22% / 24%.
Dance Dance Dance is extremely potent but also requires specific team building with highly optimized Speed tuning to make the best out of it. Dance Dance Dance is generally not worth running without a high Superimposition level, and generally should only be used if one can afford a high-speed Eagle of Twilight Set for Sunday and/or with another Dance Dance Dance holder like Tingyun.
Past and Future
When the wearer uses their Skill, the next ally taking action (except the wearer) deals 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% increased Damage for 1 turn.
Past and Future is the free version of But the Battle Isn’t Over. Similarly, this Light Cone’s damage boost only lasts 1 turn, so it is not suitable when used with Summon DPS or Follow-up attack DPS, but with other DPS that can burst on the advanced turn, it is a fine option.
HSR Sunday Main Stats
- Body: Crit Damage% > HP / Def%
- Feet: Speed
- Orb: HP% / Def%
- Rope: Energy Regeneration Rope
Sunday’s buff scales off his Critical Damage, so for his body pieces Crit Damage% is the best (a Crit Damage% chest translates to around 19.2% Crit Damage to the buffed ally) for damage. However, an HP or Def% chest is very viable if they have high Speed substats, as stats that can be quite make or break for Sunday.
Sunday generally has two ways to build. The most straightforward one is playing Sunday at a -1 Speed compared to the DPS he wants to Support. In general, this means the DPS should be at 135+ Speed while Sunday is at 134+ Speed so that the DPS gets 2 turns in a row.
However, not every DPS is capable of getting 135+ Speed easily, nor is it optimal for them to do so. A notable example is Yunli, who vastly prefers Attack% Boot since most of her DPS comes from out of turn via her Ultimate Counter.
In this case, Sunday can be built at an extremely high speed build so that he can make the DPS effectively as fast as him without the need to build Speed. Since Sunday is a lot more SP-positive than Bronya (especially with his Signature Light Cone), the principle of this build is similar to how Sparkle functions. Either way, Sunday will always need Speed Boot to be optimal.
For Orb, HP% and Def% are both great to improve his bulk. For Rope, Energy Regeneration Rope is optimal to achieve a smooth 3-turn Ultimate rotation with various Light Cone
HSR Sunday Substats
- Speed
- Crit Damage/HP/Def
- Effect Res
Sunday should prioritize Speed first for the build that he wants to play. After that, Crit Damage substats do increase his buffing potential but it is worth noting that the scaling is not that high.
Extra HP / Def or even Effect Res (for Broken Keel set requirement) can be very beneficial in high-difficult content and can be worth over Crit Damage subs depending on the situation.
Speed Tuning
Goal: Either 134+ Speed for -1 Build or As much Speed as possible for “Wheelchair” build.
For the supposed high-speed “Wheelchair” build, Sunday should be getting as much Speed / Action Advance as possible (usually by using Eagle of Twilight set and/or with a Light Cone effect like Dance! Dance! Dance!), and preferably paired with Speed buffing supports (such as Ruan Mei, Huohuo E1 or Robin E2) to make it easier to reach.
The threshold is 168+ Speed in combat on Eagle of Twilight set with one Superimposition 5 Dance! Dance! Dance! Proc for three actions in a cycle.
Without Dance! Dance! Dance!, Sunday would need 184 Speed to achieve the same result. Hence, this build is not recommended if one does not want to spend an exorbitant amount of stamina on getting the right set for him, but once achieved it does free up the boot slot for almost all of the DPS that he wants to buff.
HSR Sunday Relics
Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal
- 2-Pc: Increases SPD by 6%.
- 4-Pc: When using Skill or Ultimate on one ally target, increases the ability target’s Crit Damage by 18%, lasting for 2 turns. This effect can stack up to 2 times.
Sacerdos’ is tailor-made for Sunday’s kit. Not only does the 6% Speed make it easier for him to reach the speed threshold required, but he can fully utilize the 4pc effects and grant an additional 36% Crit Damage to his buffing target.
Eagle of Twilight Line
- 2-Pc: Increases Wind Damage by 10%.
- 4-Pc: After the wearer uses their Ultimate, their action is Advanced Forward by 25%.
This set is only used for the hyperspeed (or “wheelchair”) build and requires an extremely high amount of Speed sub and/or the presence of turn-advancing effects like Dance! Dance! Dance! Light Cone makes a notable difference.
Messenger Traversing Hackerspace
- 2-Pc: Increases SPD by 6%.
- 4-Pc: When the wearer uses their Ultimate on an ally, SPD for all allies increases by 12% for 1 turn. This effect cannot be stacked.
A good placeholder set for Sunday since the Speed boost is highly appreciated, while the teamwide Speed buff can help out other support units on the team.
2+2 Pieces of Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal & Messenger Traversing Hackerspace
This combination is solely to get 12% Speed from the two sets together, and maybe utilize high pieces with speed subs from farming both caverns.
HSR Sunday Planar Sets
Outside of these following options, Sunday can also use most of the other support planar sets like Penacony, Vonwaq, or Kalpagni depending on the situation and the aim, however in general these three will be more efficient to farm and use.
Lushaka, the Sunken Seas
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5%. If the wearer is not the first character in the team lineup, then increases the Attack of the first character in the team lineup by 12%.
Lushaka is the best generalist set for Sunday. Not only does it provide an extra Energy Regeneration Rate, but its secondary buff effect is also quite noticeable considering Sunday has no Attack buff in his kit. This set also shares the same cavern with BananAmusement Park set which is a strong set for Summon DPS.
Broken Keel
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Effect RES by 10%. When the wearer’s Effect RES is at 30% or higher, all allies’ Crit Damage increases by 10%.
Sunday can “double dip” on the effect of Broken Keel in a way, giving a total of 13% extra Crit Damage from this set to his teammates if the Effect Res requirement is met. This can be more valuable when playing with a main DPS and a sub-DPS.
Fleet of the Ageless
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Max HP by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, all allies’ Attack increases by 8%.
Similar to Broken Keel, Fleet provides both defensive stats and offensive buff, albeit smaller than Lushaka overall.
HSR Sunday Teammates
Main DPS
Jing Yuan
Jing Yuan is the biggest beneficiary of Sunday upon his release and is the one unit that fully utilizes every aspect of Sunday’s kit as of the moment. Jing Yuan has good multiplier values but is hard capped by how often his Lightning Lord could act and how vulnerable he is to Crowd Control.
Sunday completely solves both issues with his kit, letting Jing Yuan slam down his Lightning Lord multiple times in quick succession with impunity. Jing Yuan’s improvement from Sunday can only be described as unprecedented within the context of Honkai Star Rail, catapulting him from the bottom of patch 1.x units to be able to hang with patch 2.x DPS units.
Yunli
Yunli has been waiting for energy support since her release. Before Sunday, Tingyun was her best option for frontloaded energy but Tingyun’s damage amplification is several levels below what Sunday has to offer. With Sunday, Yunli further cements her status as one of the best DPS in the game.
Jingliu
Jingliu was one of the best Bronya users back in the day and the arrival of Sunday brings some much-needed life to her. Sunday can fill both Bronya and Tingyun roles for Jingliu, letting her quickly enter Transcendence state and maintain it better.
Seele
Similar to Jingliu, Seele was a 1.x hyper carry that loves both action advance and energy, which Sunday provides in abundance.
Argenti
Argenti is another prime example of an energy-based hypercarry that has been overworking Tingyun due to the lack of a Limited 5-star equivalent and Sunday brings exactly what he needs.
Dan Heng (Imbibitor Lunae)
Sunday is SP positive with his Light Cone while also providing energy, which is an extremely attractive combination for Dan Heng (Imbibitor Lunae). With another SP positive support such as Ruan Mei or Tingyun, Sunday can easily fill Sparkle’s shoes for DHIL in terms of SP generation and turn advancement, while having stronger buffs overall.
Boothill
Boothill is one of the best users of Bronya especially for fast clear, but her SP negativity can be a noticeable problem for the team if not managed well. Enter Sunday with a much better SP economy and the same 100% turn advance mechanic. While he does not take full advantage of Sunday’s kit, this is still a strong combo against any single-target-centric content in the game.
Topaz
Topaz can work as a hyper carry with Sunday advancing her and effectively increasing Numby’s attack frequency as well.
Harmony/Nihility
Robin
Robin and Sunday is the strongest combination of Harmony currently available for most Hypercarry thanks to their combined high damage amplification. While Sunday cannot advance Robin like Bronya does, he can funnel her Energy via his Ultimate for quick Robin’s Ultimate instead, essentially achieving the same functionality as the famed Robin / Bronya combo and pulling ahead of Bronya in terms of impact as the fight extends.
Jiaoqiu
Jiaoqiu offers exceptional damage amplification when paired with another Harmony due to offering a different type of damage boost. Jiaoqiu’s damage amplification is also entirely tied to his field, meaning it does not run out even when the main DPS takes action frequently due to Sunday’s Advance.
Tingyun
For Energy-based DPS, a Tingyun + Sunday combo will give them more than enough Energy to work with. Furthermore, Tingyun is one of the strongest Dance! Dance! Dance! abuser in the game, which can enable hyperspeed (or “wheelchair”) Sunday.
Ruan Mei
Ruan Mei is another Harmony with buffs entirely tied to her turn, making her a strong combination with Sunday’s frequent Action Advance. Furthermore, Ruan Mei also passively increases Sunday’s Speed which helps him achieve a high Speed threshold easier.
Bronya
Bronya and Sunday can work together with some creativity. One such setup is the Bronya Advance Sunday, then Sunday Advance the Summon DPS like Jing Yuan, effectively gives the DPS 3 turns in exchange for weaker damage per turn due to Bronya’s buff not landing on the DPS.
Sustain
Huohuo
Huohuo is Sunday’s team premium sustain of choice. As Sunday is essentially SP positive with his Signature Light Cone, Huohuo can be a lot more flexible with her Skill Usage. Furthermore, Huohuo’s Ultimate providing energy to Sunday means Sunday can funnel Energy into the DPS even faster.
Gallagher
Gallagher’s high SP positivity when combined with Sunday can give a lot of leeway to the DPS and the other support with their Skill usage.
Lingsha
Lingsha can be used as a DPS with Sunday with her Summon, while also sustaining the team.
HSR Sunday Teams
Sunday Premium Hyper Carry Team
The cookie-cutter Sunday Robin Huohuo core can work with both standard Energy-based Hyper Carry teams like Yunli / Argenti or Summon DPS like Jing Yuan.
Hyper Carry team with DPS with a lot of Damage% that may prefer Nihility Amp like Seele / Jingliu.
Boothill Break Team
Lingsha DPS Team
Sunday F2P Hyper Carry Team
Tingyun and Pela are notable F2P support units with good synergy with Sunday.
More Experimental Sunday Team
The Unlimited Turn For Summon Team with Bronya using her skill on Sunday instead. The Speedtuning for this team would be Jing Yuan’s Speed > Sunday’s Speed > Bronya’s Speed.
HSR Sunday Pull Value and Conclusion
Even without his interaction with Summon DPS, Sunday’s skillset lends to an extremely powerful and flexible hyper-carry Support. 100% Action Advance and targetable frontload energy have been extremely potent effects that keep Bronya and Tingyun – two launch units – evergreen for 2 years, and Sunday packs both effects onto one unit.
Furthermore, Sunday is a lot less SP intensive than Bronya – one of her biggest drawbacks, which already opens up more team options in general compared to her. While he is not on the same power level as Robin at the time of his release, his flexibility makes him a very solid pull and will pull his weight in a lot of most teams that he is put into.
Potential Future Summon DPS
In terms of his impact when paired with Summon DPS, it is quite clear that Sunday is designed with a future perspective. Of the three current Summon DPS, Jing Yuan gains a monstrous glow up from Sunday’s release on a level that no other unit has seen before. Both Topaz and Lingsha would also gain extremely noticeable improvement should they be played as main DPS, which bodes well for future DPS with similar mechanics.
It is very tough to predict Sunday’s impact on upcoming unit releases but it can be quite safe to assume that if Summon DPS becomes a big playstyle akin to Break or Follow-up in the future, then Sunday would be highly sought after as the facilitator for them.
